MC Prussian Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 I can't believe Switzerland lost at home to Luxembourg?! No. It's not your telly or videotext acting up. And it wasn't even the CERN interferring with your online connection.
Corky Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 No. It's not your telly or videotext acting up. And it wasn't even the CERN interferring with your online connection. What the hell happened?
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Bosnia beat Estonia 7-0 Good win for Scotland Lithuania beat Austria Good result for NI And a half decent result for the Turks. You're having a laugh, right? 1-1 at home against Belgium "half-decent"? Two points dropped really... And Lithuania looking good. Humiliated Romania and now beat France's conquerors. Dark horse for qualification?
MC Prussian Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 What the hell happened? Switzerland 1. Luxembourg 2.
lildave3 Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 You're having a laugh, right? 1-1 at home against Belgium "half-decent"? Two points dropped really... Yeah probably, but not an absolutely terrible result. Belgium aren't a bad side. Beat the rest of the teams, then nick a point off of Spain, and they're laughing
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Switzerland 1. Luxembourg 2. Thats got to hurt the pride...
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Yeah probably, but not an absolutely terrible result. Belgium aren't a bad side. Beat the rest of the teams, then nick a point off of Spain, and they're laughing Their U-23 teams performance at the olympics was admirable, but really, they've not had a decent team for over a decade now... But no, not absolutely terrible result I guess...
MC Prussian Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Thats got to hurt the pride... What pride? I dwell in Schadenfreude...
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 WOOOOOOO!!!! Portugal 2-3 Denmark!! 3 goals in the last 6 minutes.... Sensational!!! Finally we get the rub of the green :D
MC Prussian Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 WOOOOOOO!!!! Portugal 2-3 Denmark!! 3 goals in the last 6 minutes.... Sensational!!! Finally we get the rub of the green Well done.
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Well done. I'm literally buzzing. Got outplayed over 90 minutes, but they never gave up and got lucky. Oh and Bendtner scored a very good goal, Manwell
lavrentis Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 WOOOOOOO!!!! Portugal 2-3 Denmark!! 3 goals in the last 6 minutes.... Sensational!!! Finally we get the rub of the green :D tillykke *courtesy of Google Translator.
shen Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 What pride? I dwell in Schadenfreude... I see. Is it international football in general that you feel indifferent about, or is there a reason you don't connect with your national team?
Jonezy Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Bloody brilliant that! Can't believe we sneaked it in the end....
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Australia play Uzbekistan tonight in Taskent in our first game of the final part of world cup quallifying 5 teams top 2 automatically quallify and im quite nervous tbh.But if the last stage was anything to go buy when we had china, Iraq and Qatar we went thru easily so fingers crossed hey 1-0 Win was a tricky away match but good to get off to a win first up
Mark Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 I see. Is it international football in general that you feel indifferent about, or is there a reason you don't connect with your national team? I see Jonas Borring came on just before you started scoring, did he have a hand in them? I liked the look of him when Midtjylland played Man City.
MC Prussian Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I see. Is it international football in general that you feel indifferent about, or is there a reason you don't connect with your national team? That's actually what I was asking myself for most part during last night's game. We have a bunch of overpaid, unmotivated, lazy and spoilt brats playing together. Some of the starters weren't fully fit or have found themselves in a deep hole, like Frei, Barnetta, Vonlanthen (bad as ever) Benaglio, Lustrinelli or Hakan Yakin. Yesterday was a Parade of Individualists. No team spirit. No real effort. And we got deservedly beaten for that negligence. We might as well pull our team out of the competition and send them to Mallorca, where they'd do a much better figure.
shen Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I see Jonas Borring came on just before you started scoring, did he have a hand in them? I liked the look of him when Midtjylland played Man City. I don't recall him having a direct impact, but he did add some needed physical presence and fresh legs on the left (replaced Løvenkrands). At first I thought he was the one who scored the goal that made it 1-1, but it was in fact Bendtner that was on the wing there and then. Maybe they swapped positions on purpose, in which case I guess he had a hand in the goal But yes, Borring's a useful player, strong in the air and decent on the ball. Surprised he's not gone to German football actually...

Is that because there's no unity in the team that they perform like that? You'd think Hitzfeld could do something about that... You'd have to be atrocious to lose to Luxembourg, at home! It's a sad when a nation become disconnected and disillusioned with their team. But playing players that aren't fit or are out of form is one of the disadvantages of being a small nation. Frei and Barnetta are arguably some of the best talents to come from Switzerland since Chapuisat, they have to play no matter what.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I'm literally buzzing. Got outplayed over 90 minutes, but they never gave up and got lucky. Oh and Bendtner scored a very good goal, Manwell He's garbage.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Denmark looked decent last night in the highlights I just seen. Excellent result away from home.
Jonezy Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Denmark looked decent last night in the highlights I just seen.Excellent result away from home. Awesome result, but that was some serious rub of the green. Portugal had 3 monster chances to make it 2-0, but we all know (as Leicester fans), that you have to score on your chances or it can come back to haunt you. I was was sat swearing at the Danish centre midfield (Poulsen and Jensen) all game, and they both scored in the end, typical. Swiss fans can't taunt the Austrians with their Faroe Islands defeat anymore..... Switzerland is not a super team (neither is Denamrk by the way), but Frei, Behrami, Yakin, Degen and Senderos among others are all decent players, so losing to Luxembourg is a shocker. And whats up with Lithuania...?!
MC Prussian Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 ...Swiss fans can't taunt the Austrians with their Faroe Islands defeat anymore..... Switzerland is not a super team (neither is Denamrk by the way), but Frei, Behrami, Yakin, Degen and Senderos among others are all decent players, so losing to Luxembourg is a shocker. ... To be honest, neither Degen, Behrami nor Senderos were playing yesterday and Frei was crap. Just returned from injury, did fairly well in a couple of exhibitions for Dortmund and already believes he's got what it takes... This crisis has been going on for about four years now and Hitzfeld was taken aboard like two years too late. Under Kuhn, too many players had guaranteed starting spots and didn't need to care about their footballing abilities or form. Also, as soon as they shoot a goal or two in a game, some players are overhyped and already target of superlatives - and the bad thing is, they believe it. We're a mediocre footballing side on an international level, have always been and will always be. The recent, unusual success in the past four years has made many players greedy, sloppy and arrogant. A bunch of wannabe-models with fat contracts, a hunch for shiny cars and an appetite for ex-models - often made public in grandma's most favourite tabloid... I still hope for the best, but making it to South Africa in this campaign has just gotten a few levels harder.
shen Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 He's garbage. He's garbage that scores goals and will do so for many years, so I'm happy!!
