purpleronnie Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Don't think anyone is surprised, he's got a glass jaw.
Webbo Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 I can't understand why people are taking such pleasure in his defeat. He always seemed to me a decent lad and a good role model to the lads in his area.
davieG Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Is it still available on PPV I think I'll get it to see what happened?
Samilktray Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 I can't understand why people are taking such pleasure in his defeat. I don't get it either. Typical British attitude though negativity. He's no floyd, god I love that man.
Tilley Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Is it still available on PPV I think I'll get it to see what happened? Should be available until next Saturday I believe.
Milky Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Some say his career is over at 21. Seems harsh to me!
TrickyTrev Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Some say his career is over at 21. Seems harsh to me! You can't coach a chin. He looked all over the place from the first jab that caught him. I will never understand why people get over excited about boxers that do well at amatuer level. When they step up they are, sooner or later, gonna take a few hits. Until you have seen how a boxer handles those blows you have no idea whether they are gonna be any good. Khan looks like not only does he feel a punch, but he can't actually handle them at all. Its a pity, the media hype is obviously annoying because of the amount of money involved, but he seems a nice enough lad.
Lovejoy Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Was quite amusing actually, was in a bar ready to watch it. Anyway someone outside called me so I went over, said hi, and went back inside. And the fight was over  .
Jack Posted 7 September 2008 Posted 7 September 2008 Im probably gonna get slated for saying this but I believe that Amir Khan will become world champ. Not yet, but in a few years when he has matured I think he can do it. Me and a few mates chipped in to watch this last night and I was gutted with what happened. It was a dangerous fight, no one has really heard of Prescott so he had nothing to lose. It was a big step up for Amir last night, a much tougher opposition. Apparently a rematch has already been set for 6th December and I believe that Khan will come back bigger and stronger and avenge his defeat. Prescott knew the longer he was in the ring with Khan the more chance he had of loosing so he had to go in and end it quickly. Khan totally underestimated him and just come straight at him but for the rematch now he knows about him he knows not to do that and box clever to tire Prescott out because he is not gonna be able to punch like he did last night for 12 rounds and then the fight will be in favour of Khan.

Why?He hit him about twice.
Dr The Singh Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I watched the fight and to say i had I had my doubts about him were an understatement!! He has been overhyped, not just by himself but his camp and the media. His previous opponents were generally mediocre or has beens, none of them were ever physically as big as him! I couldn't give a shit about his age etc, but if your gonna go about bigging yourselve up saying 'i'm gonna be champ by 22' etc, you put yourself high up an a stage, then the fall is gonna be huge aswell!!! Warren signed a very lucrative deal with Sky and hence the fighters were always gonna be of a better standard. After reading about Prescott, I thought finally he (Amir) is stepping up to the grade, finally a real test! Unfortunately Khan failed at the first hurdle, he has always had a glass chin, but to say a simple jab had rocked him????? It showed that a 'large' lightweight like Prescott with a good jab would cause him problems!! The jab had opened Khan up clean and the following punch was clean and crisp. One must note that Prescotts hand speed were rapid also!! The aftermath wasn't one of surprise, Warrens camp knew Khan had deficiencies, all of a sudden they started to make staements such as 'this fight was too quick for him'. 'prescott was really dangerous', 'maybe we shouldn't have taken this fight'. The fighter and his camp over hype the fighter, take massive payments from TV media and fans and ultimately fail to deliver, and I hope the gravy train finishes here because Khan is a young fighter he COULD become a good fighter, he COULD become a champ, but not for many years!! This fight was no fluke, if Khan's camp even think that it was a lucky punch or Khan has a chance of beating Prescott then they would speak of a rematch, which Prescott is upfor!! Prescott in a interview said he was surpised how his jab opened him up and said he would love to fight in the UK again and thanked frank Warren!!
The People's Hero Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 This thread can be summed up by whoever said 'you can't coach a chin'. Regardless of how much work Khan does, if you fight a decent boxer, you're going to take a couple of jabs. I knew he had a reputation for 'glass jaw' but still, that was unreal. I fear for him, to be honest.
purpleronnie Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I guess if he dramatically improves his movement and defence then theres still hope for him.
Zingari Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 it does look worrying for the lad but he remains an excellent prospect and can only learn from this set-back , even the great cassius clay ( ali) suffered from the occasional lapse , remember 'enry's hammering left hook that made him take an unschedueled sit down
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I guess if he dramatically improves his movement and defence then theres still hope for him. .....He already is pretty quick though. He's going to get tagged no matter how good he is.
Dr The Singh Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I guess if he dramatically improves his movement and defence then theres still hope for him. If he were a heavy weight maybe but at light weight generally all boxers are quick and agile, and the amount of punches absorbed and thrown are alot more!! He will get caught and he will go down, throughtout his career now fighters will have to be hand picked to suit his requirements, that is not the actions of a champ!!!
Uncle Albert Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I just hope Khan doesnt go back to fighting Paperboys.
Tilley Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I just hope Khan doesnt go back to fighting Paperboys. He will, Get all cocky again, Then, build up another big fight, and lose.
Ultra Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I can't understand why people are taking such pleasure in his defeat. He always seemed to me a decent lad and a good role model to the lads in his area. Maybe once upon a time, but not now.. From Wiki.. On October 23, 2007, Khan was convicted of careless driving at Bolton Crown Court and given a six month driving ban and a £1000 fine. The conviction related to an incident that occurred on March 2, 2006, in the centre of Bolton when Khan hit a pedestrian on a pelican crossing whilst overtaking a line of cars and running through a red traffic light. Khan was estimated to be traveling at 47 mph in a 30 mph limit area and was in the incorrect lane of traffic. The pedestrian, Geoffrey Hatton, suffered a broken leg and lost his job due to the seriousness of the injury He died two years later at the age of 57.Geoffrey Hatton's widow Moyra said that he had been "a broken man" following the accident..Khan had originally been charged with the more serious offence of dangerous driving.Khan was also summoned to appear in court in Rochdale on October 26, 2007, accused of travelling in excess of 140 mph on the M62 motorway on December 31, 2006. He did not appear and the case was adjourned to November 2, 2007, with the District Judge stating that he would issue an arrest warrant if the accused did not appear then. He was also charged with not producing his driving licence and insurance certificate after the incident. On 7th January 2008 Khan was fined £1000 and banned for 42 days for the speeding offence Like Naseem Hamed before him, Khan has become an arrogant little sh!t who believes his own hype and thinks motoring laws are for the little people. It's no surprise he's brought the same type of attitude to his recent fights. As many have noted, the warning signs were already there. And, true to form, Khan ignored them. If he can sort out his technical flaws, he may be able to redeem some sort of career, at European if not world level. But it will take an awful lot of commitment, dedication and training to reach that standard. Right now, I'm not convinced Khan has those qualities.
TrickyTrev Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I guess if he dramatically improves his movement and defence then theres still hope for him. He's a lightweight, he's gonna have to be able to cope with being tagged by a couple of jabs. Doesn't matter how quick you are or how good your defences are, you're gonna get hit once or twice in a boxing match. Saturday was not about him not having a good defence. It was about him being all over the place after just one jab from a decent puncher. He was open for the left hook because his head was spinning.

My point exactly, Khan cant take a punch one single bit, all the paper boys he has had fights against in the past have been there to run round for a couple of minutes and not throw anything at him. Prescott is a "proper" fighter and is going to box Khan not let him bully him around with his quick hands. Maybe it was the fact Khan isnt use to getting hit and the surprise etc all led to an embarrasing defeat or he simply can not take a punch and is clearly going to struggle any higher then the elvel he is already at.
Darkzzz_ Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I did not pay for it, I am glad I didn't, he got punished and I knew he would. Khan is very mouthy, he is to over hyped, full of excuses in defeat as well. I hope as a young lad he learns his lesson, he really can't take big hits and this is worrying.

Khan may hit hard but his defence has never been solid, thats the first fight Khan has fought where his opponent can pack a punch and look whats happend. Fighting Hatton could be a big mistake, be good financially but his career after could take a big blow.
