Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I found myself at utter disbelief this morning, after reading this... http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0 decent article but I whole heartedly agree with the last sentence "Perhaps dropping into League One could prove to be a blessing in disguise for City"... In that getting into a winning mentality is so important, and I couldn't really see it happening in the Championship. I think this year (touching wood here!) will do us good, just to get winning again, then who knows what can happen next season!? Might be slightly daft the thimk that relegation will do us some good in the long term...thoughts??
Mickey O'Neil Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 decent article but I whole heartedly agree with the last sentence "Perhaps dropping into League One could prove to be a blessing in disguise for City"... I totally agree with this and said this right at the end of last season. My only concern was, some of the 'bigger' clubs who have been relegated in recent years who didn't go up at the first attempt (maybe this was down to their attitude..??). Also, we didn't know who was going to be manager, players in/out etc. etc. I know it's only 1 month into the season, and there's plenty of time for it to go a bit Pete Tong, but there is certainly an air of optimism around the city (and in my house!). Relegation was, in my eyes, the last chance to sort the club out before we went into freefall and was the huge kick up the arse we needed. I believe everyone associated with the club is now pulling in the same direction.
Kilworthfox Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 The big difference with the artice is that it was written by Nev Foulger not Blanderson
step Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 If we had dropped a division and had another crap manager we would have found ourselves in the same situation, so I dont think it was dropping to League One was the blessing, It was getting pearson in that has made the differance and we should not take that away from him. Credit where it is due,

Vestan Pance Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Not sure about it being a blessing, it's certainly what we deserve. I won't be saying it's a positive thing if we still in this League this time next year, after less than 10% of the season played I don't think we can yet make any judgements over where we will be. As Alan Partridge said, I need a positive to cancel out the negative and then another positive just so that I can have a positive.

oldbluefox Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 I'm quite certain that had we stayed up Holloway would still have been here. We certainly would not have had Pearson who has been like a breath of fresh air in the way he has conducted himself, the signings he has made and in the ethos he has instilled into the players. I also do not think we would have sold the players we did and brought in the likes of Gilbert, Dyer, Adams, Hobbs etc who have injected pace and enthusiasm into our play. Last season, buoyed by 'experienced' players we were slow, lethargic and lacking in any imagination in attack. Midfield was non-existent. The return of Gradel and the infusion of young talent combined with a few experienced pros has livened up the whole club and given supporters something to cheer about. I doubt we would have signed many, if any, of these players had we avoided relegation. If we get promotion at the end of the season we will go up looking fitter and stronger than had we survived another painstaking year in the Championship. It's just a pity we had to endure relegation to achieve it we have a manager at long last who knows what he is doing, knows how to achieve his objectives and will be with us for a good many successful years to come. So far Pearson has done a magnificent job and if there is a positive to be gained from relegation he has to be it. The future certainly looks rosy and we could be in for an exciting season.

davieG Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Well it was Nev Foulger who wrote it and not Blanderson! And being a Cov fan he'll be delighted we went down instead of his team - perhaps having written the article he should have declared an interest.
Corky Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 We needed a wake-up call, after years of struggle and just about survival, it was inevitable. I didn't think it was the best at the time obviously, but I'm enjoying this season immensely. We've got a proper manager in place, whereas if we'd stayed up Holloway would be in charge and another season of struggle loomed. We've got the pride back in our club, we're playing good football and winning matches, and it doesn't matter we're in League 1, I would rather win matches at this level than draw/lose in the Championship (like we normally do).
Webbo Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 And being a Cov fan he'll be delighted we went down instead of his team - perhaps having written the article he should have declared an interest. thought he was a WBA fan.

If he is a Coventry fan, he was miles better than the Sheep-lover Barber and writes good columns in the Mercury.

GloverFox Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Good old Mercury, about 16 months late with that view! ... 16 months late ... that is really good going for the Merc ... Bloody Hell Thrac, your so damned hard to please! But seriously, I've said it before ... it's brilliant being able to smile and enjoy that winning feeling with City again, and ultimately the fans feelings do come through to the players either directly by the crowd reaction at games or even by the odd comments they pick up whilst out and about the place ... and they do thrive on that feel good factor (as do most of us fickle lot really) ... Feel good factor? ... more than I can say whenever I get a Merc!
