Bert Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Tbh I didn't know that they'd even done a new album, so i've just obtained it. You either love the Streets, or you hate them. The first song I'm liking. Anyone else got this? Thoughts?
Samilktray Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Listened today and im not convinced, to be fair high standards were set with 'Original Pirate Material' and 'A Grand Dont Come For Free' but this and the album before havent done a lot for me. I do really like The Escapist and Alledged Legends as I agree with a lot of the stuff he says about religion on the track. This album could be a grower though, shall have to see.

Samilktray Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I think the thing I really did like about this album is as soon as I put it on, it just chilled me out.
lildave3 Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Yeah I quite like this. Not as good as AGDCFF or Original Pirate Material but still pretty good.
Finchy Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 It's good that he's still changing musically tho, every album is different. I love his new stuff, it definitely grows on you, some songs on the album are Skinner at his very best.
Bert Posted 11 September 2008 Author Posted 11 September 2008 The strongest person i know and the escapist are quality.
Trumpet Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Not got hold of it yet, will do later. Here's a song, not from the album but it's quite good and a bit different. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdE3LmefBlc
The Stig Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 The first two albums were brilliant. The thierd has as someone else said two good songs. I've heard little of this album Everything is Borrowed is a grower and I love Heaven for the Weather. I'll have to listen to the rest tonight. I'll end up buying it anyway.
James. Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 I was never convinced by him but then I saw him live at Exit Festival and he was absolutely fantastic. Very good on stage, got the crowd going, mixed up some classic non-Streets tunes with his own stuff. Definitely recommend.

Have to agree, I saw him live and think he's better live than to listen to on CD, although I do like quite a few of his tracks from the earlier albums.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Malkit Singhs 3rd Album was better, especailly the Bloiyan Remix!!!
Corky Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Malkit Singhs 3rd Album was better, especailly the Bloiyan Remix!!! Absolutely Doc.
lifted*fox Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Absolute trash. Original Pirate Material was a masterpiece. A mixture of... well... garage and spoken poetry to be honest. It hadn't been done before. The garage beats were heavy, the words were thought out properly, and he actually pieced together some decent sentances. Everything that has followed, including the new album, is rubbish. He basically split up with the guy he collaborated with on the first album, said he didn't need him anymore. The beats sounds like they've been written by a 10 year old. The words... what a joke! He's actually just talking rubbish, not poetry anymore! He rhymes the same word over and over... not allowed! It breaks my heart to listen to it, because the first album holds a lot of memories for me! He's completely sold out, has nothing to talk about anymore. Bleh, annoying.

Hes evovled as an artist, you cant stick to the same thing forever.

The Reverend Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 It was alrite. Nothing that got me massively excited thoi did really like the second to last song.
stez Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Malkit Singhs 3rd Album was better, especailly the Bloiyan Remix!!! had this for a while, deleted some of it now though however i like 'who knows who' probably because it sounds like RATM but with someone who can't sing, singing. the streets
Daggers Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 I like it. He's matured. Cue: Young people exit while middle-aged apprentices enter clutching copies of The Guardian.
lifted*fox Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 he hasn't matured as an artist. he's tried to put together a couple of 'concept' albums and they've ended up sounding like crap. the first album told a proper story, the second one tries, but it doesn't work. the third and fourth... well. technically, he's got a lot worse. the music is worse, i mean c'mon... listen to the samples on 'everything else is borrowed'... the drums sound SO bad... it's laughable. each to their own, if you like it, you like it! but to deny that he's got worse technically...well, it's undeniable really.

I saw him live in Birmingham a few years back, quality night, would highly reccomend also. he hasn't matured as an artist.he's tried to put together a couple of 'concept' albums and they've ended up sounding like crap. the first album told a proper story, the second one tries, but it doesn't work. the third and fourth... well. technically, he's got a lot worse. the music is worse, i mean c'mon... listen to the samples on 'everything else is borrowed'... the drums sound SO bad... it's laughable. each to their own, if you like it, you like it! but to deny that he's got worse technically...well, it's undeniable really. Couldn't disagree more with that and your previous post.
Samilktray Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 I listened again. Its god awful this time around.
Daggers Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 I listened again. Its god awful this time around. I was just about to post the same thing! I listened to it on the train on the way over and had to swap it for something substantially better.
