General Smuts Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Words can not express how pissed off i am about Colchester. fook THE M29!
shen Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Good stuff! Just glad we go on and win these tight games. I didn't expect such a dramatic turnaround in results so shortly after last season. NP/Milan have made some shrewd signings this season it must be said, but the speed at which they have gelled is testament to NPs management and his backroom staff. Just look at todays starting XI: only 4 (Oakley, King, Howard and Fryatt) of the players starting were here last season, and King was just bit part then! In fact, it's amazing that we've carried over our great defensive record with an ENTIRELY new back line...
JoeyB Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 First time in the black kit tonight as well. I think the team will be - Martin Powell/Berner Gilbert Tunch Hobbs Dyer Adams KING Oakley Howard Fryatt You were wrong, bert. But what is the point in having a Black kit if were not going to play in it

In fact, it's amazing that we've carried over our great defensive record with an ENTIRELY new back line... I think our back line is better this season than last. Especially so when you look at the individual. Tunchev is far too good for this level of football and has already demonstrated to me that he is better than McAuley. N'Gotty was far too much of a liability and, although not the quickest, Hobbs and Morrison are much more consistent for me. Gilbert for me is also far more threatening than Stearman ever was down the right. Defensively he might not be as good, but in an attacking sense he is far better. The left back position also seems to be far more settled. The introduction of Powell has been a master stroke and has shown to be far better than a certain loanee from Wolves. Then there's Kisnorbo. When he comes back all the better. This may be a lower standard of football and the defensive duties all the more easier - although you could argue otherwise - but I think all over the park, whether it be defence, midfield, attack, we look a far better team than last season.
Austin Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Speaking of solid defending this season so far .. Howd's everyone reckon Kisnorbo's gonna slot back in? Or is he off next window .. ?
Daggers Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 But what is the point in having a Black kit if were not going to play in it
Maybes Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Oh Lloyd how I love you. FEED THE LLOYD!! I am absolutely delighted with this victory. We are top of the league!!!
Thracian Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Speaking of solid defending this season so far ..Howd's everyone reckon Kisnorbo's gonna slot back in? Or is he off next window .. ? It would be extremely interesting to hear some justification for either Kisnorbo or Mattock starting in the current side. Tunchev is the cool, classy, footballing centre-back we've needed for years and our team moves with a smoothness from back to front which never existed in the days of McAuley/Kisnorbo. I've been surprised by Powell but the man has shown himself a master of his craft at Division One level whereas Mattock is still a learner, and understandably so. This defence of ours is not just mean but both Powell and Gilbert now seem to be offering terrific support to the potential match-winning wingers in front of them. Mattock needs to be eased back gradually. To be given match time when the opportunity occurs and to spend time on the training ground improving the areas that have let him down like his positioning and his final pass when he moves forward. Too much has been asked of the guy too soon and the performance of Powell has only served to emphasise that fact. Now he'll be able to learn properly, as part of a genuinely confident, efforvescent and attacking side, exactly what is required to shine as an effective modern full-back. Pearson I'm sure, will only be a help to him and Powell as well.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Nice just keep getting those 3 pointers boys
martyn Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 First half was drab and uninspired although save for a 5 minutes spell of Colchester possession, we shaded it. Second half was excellent, especially the first 25 minutes. The move which resulted in Fryatt being put through only to fire it at the keepers chest was absolutely sublime. Back 4 were all good individually (Powell was excellent and continues to surprise). I just wish the central midfielders would be able to dominate slightly more in the middle of the park...King was absolutely anonymous for the most part. Having said that, Colchester never created anything and had 5 across the midfield. Their only hope was a ball into the big lump Platt with someone to feed off the scraps. Fryatt looked lively, although thats not too much considering he was up against 2 of the slowest centre halves I've ever seen.
AmericanScott Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 My goodness, it's looking good so far! I just hope none of those blasted Chumpionship sides attempt coming in for any of our talented (talented and City, in the same sentence!!) players. We have the 3rd best defence in the country, says Mr. Stringer before the match.

hebangsthedrums Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Similar to Saturday, we looked beter overall and missed several chnces, but they may have got a couple on another day. Decent performance and good goal from Dyer. Game passed our midfield by for spells - I still think we need more bite, but having said that we're top of the table. I feel sorry for Colchester - like us their new stadium arrives just after their 'golden period', if I were a Colchester fan I would actually rather have stayed put - the stadium is miles from anywhere, holds no atmosphere and they can't fill it. Having said that paying £10(!!!!!!!) for parking makes me hope they get relegated. Stewards hilarioussly asked people to sit down then when ignored stood around for 5 minutes before giving up and slinking off.
Sods Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Just got back. Lucky to make the game being on the M25 for over an hour and half. Just made kick off. 1st half wasn't great, neither side was on top. You could see we had the better quality, Dyer didnt have much off the ball 1st half. Second Half. Much better, could have been more. Dyer was quality, POW! was imense. Very tired, well worth it though. Running down the steps for the goal to celebrate with the players was quality.
Bert Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 I didn't listen or watch the match but Fryatt was shit. Basically Joe, has text you this then. Not surprised. Tbh, he didn't sound great either.
1884 Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Just got back, nightmare getting to Colchester, nightmare getting away from Colchester, god i hate a one way in, one way out system! ANYWAY... First half, wasn't the best from either side, we probably edged on possesion and defenately on chances, the closest we came was with Fryatt, good save from the keeper. Second half was much better and a good start deservidly (spelling?) ending in a good goal by Dyer. Fryatt also went close, when he should have scored! Only scare was Yeates' free kick which always looked like it was hitting the post, but no-one knew which way it would come off of the post, luckily it didn;t go in! Great support by the fans, non stop singing pretty much, and quite a good turn out!
Sods Posted 30 September 2008 Posted 30 September 2008 Oh yeah Mark Yeates' Free Kick was something else!

Any more sensible posts like this and I may find myself valuing your opinion. You are on dangerous ground, ~Thrac don't be talking too much sense or I may have to take you off 'ignore' status - and where would the order things be left then? Nice post, N.

Lost4words Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 just got back.... damn that was a trip and a half... gotta go work in 8hrs that freekick was gorgeous... luckily went off the INSIDE of the post and out
Guest Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Just got back finally. Forgettable first half, enjoyed the second half and there was again a bit of nice football going on. Steve Howard being used as a climbing frame by opposition defences yet again. Fryatt, whilst not scoring this evening (and I'm sure I'll be in the minority on this one), played some really nice football, and one of the first times I've really seen why people bang on about him having a good footballing brain. Dyer MOM for his second half display but I thought Adams and Gilbert were linking up nicely down the right in the second half too. Bizarre moment of the night, some bloke at Liverpool St Station wanted to buy my used ticket from the match off me, saying he hadn't got one from the new ground
Joe. Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 Just got back, enjoyable night really. It was a fairly tight game, and Colchester could really have got a point out of it had it not been for the post, but overall I think we deserved the win just about. I can't really name a player who played badly for us tonight, it was a decent display from the whole team and they didn't panic in the times when we were under pressure. I wish to reiterate my burning love for Lloyd Dyer (what a sey goal) and Chris Powell. Dream left sided partnership.
