It would be interesting to see what you actually did if exactly that situation occurred. Presumably your daughter would be or would think herself deeply in love with her teacher. As a father who loves his daughter like crazy would you really physically injure or attack the person she probably wants to be with more than anyone else in the world. Cos if you did I don't think she'd be very pleased. How simplistic it is to talk theoretically about such things but the reality can be much different. Someone has even questioned on here how a 22-year-old teacher could go out with a 16-year-old? The answer is 'easily'. Lots of people with much greater age differences go out with each other. Look at Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones or Charles Dance and any number of desirable young ladies. Why would any red-blooded male not fancy a 16+ teenaged stunner even if they might do nothing about it for various reasons? Teachers might be well advised to remain detached from teacher/pupil relationships - at the very best they are serious hassle - but that is very different to the idea of treating teachers differently under the law. The rope that restrains many potential pupil/teacher relationships is responsibility. Pupils individually and collectively trust their teachers and to break that trust threatens everything that the teacher stands for as a classroom professional. Responsibility probably should be and would seem to be encouraged. But being weak-willed within the law that applies to others surely doesn't make someone a sex offender. It might make them a bit reckless, unwise or even difficult to employ in the Sir-cum-stances that might develop. But a criminal? No.

You would have to ask yourself why a grown man would target a 16 year old in the first place. There were a lot of 15/16/17 year old girls hanging around the pool on holiday this year, in all honesty if I ogled anyone it was their mothers. Could it be that a teacher could be just taking advantage of the naivety of young girls? Perhaps he tries it on with a different girl every year and just sees it as a perk of the job, dumping these girls when he's had what he wants? That's the kind of heartbreak that every father wants to stop. As for Catherine Zeta Jones, when girls get to a certain age, probably around 18/20, then they have to make their own mistakes and they probably wouldn't listen to their parents anyway.
