I'm not so sure. I didn't like the feeling that we tried to sit on our lead at Oldham and I don't know that the side is being encouraged to develop and to play even better.

We didn't sit back by choice, as soon as we scored they stepped up a gear. We couldn't get out of our half no matter how we tried.

To me we're in danger of becoming predictable and therefore easier to combat.

Coming from the most predictable member of the forum - Tony, you didn't see the game and you have already said that you didn't listen to most of it either: the only predictable thing is that you would suddenly have developed a strong opinion about Pearson's gameplay diverging from the one you would have used by mid-to-late Sunday.

Saturday wasn't us being predictable, it was us playing against a talented team who were highly motivated. They were outplayed for 2/3's of the match and took a glorious opportunity. Really, you need to have a word with your good self.

One game at a time is my philosophy. Pearson seems fairly satisfied and with swathes of fans seemingly content with a point at Oldham the same would seem to be true of them.

I'm not so sure. I didn't like the feeling that we tried to sit on our lead at Oldham and I don't know that the side is being encouraged to develop and to play even better.

With the start we've had I really thought this would have happened by now but in fact teams seem to be taking counter measures and making our life harder instead of us posing constantly different problems.

To me we're in danger of becoming predictable and therefore easier to combat. Seeing as I don't think Gradel's suddenly lost his ability I don't think we're getting the best out of him. There's just too many people not quite firing full throttle and yet too few players from the squad being involved.

None of this will make any impression because we're in the Leagues top two, have lost just one game and there's nothing desperately or obviously wrong. I guess it's just my nature to look for progress being made and, for me, there are lots of things we should be doing better irrespective of what the opposition do.

We should be more threatening from free kicks, our big defenders should be making a contribution at the attacking end, our central midfield should be scoring/creating more and so should our right winger. And how many assists thus far from our full backs? Not one between them that I can see.

That equates to massive room for improvement.

i'm sure pearson is fully aware that his long term job relies on us improving, but the form of the team isn't so surprising, really - the honeymoon period is over, teams will, of course, know more about us... to be honest, it wouldn't be unreasonable for a team going thru what we are going thru to suffer a run of poor or, at least, indifferent form, which we have thus far avoided.

the fact that we aren't yet dominating teams shouldn't be a concern, as you say - we are winning games. confidence in the squad must still be quite fragile and precious; but you have to admit, if we have ever had a team that looks like it will grow and be a side capable of domineering performances and free scoring shut-outs, then this is that team-

have a little patience, squire.

I'm working on it! :D

So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere?

The only way I can see there being any atmosphere is if we let of flares.

I've been to Brighton a couple of times in the Championship, and I've usually found the fans opposite the one permanent stand make a fair bit of noise, the nearby pub has a good atmosphere, and the temporary stands make for great foot stamping. It's not as bad as people seem to think it'll be.

Also, take the train with your travel voucher, not the bus, it's much more direct.

Not really no, but it will be a laugh I should imagine.

I'd be looking for a minimum of 12 points there really.

Just a bit worried about how we are going to fair against crap teams at home, could be frustrating. Early goals are the key for us at home.

This is why we need to win those games and win them emphatically if we're going to be able to drive forward to automatic promotion - people talk about our pedigree we now have to do the talking our home form/performances hasn't been that impressive for a team in our situation.

All of these games are winnable.

But managers will have noted that at times we look a little fragile, especially in midfield. It's a weakness that was exploited by Millwall and Oldham.

Hopefully Oakley and King will rediscover their form during this run. If we're to last the distance in the title race, we need them to be firing on all cylinders.

If you're going to tell me we didn't sit back content to defend a 1-0 lead and that we didn't stop chasing a second goal I'll happily accept your word.

But that remains the impression I've got so far from people I've spoken to and from reading the comments of Ched, for instance. And if you allow teams to attack you then no-one should be surprised if they score.

And if, as you say and I accept, we dominated two thirds of the game I wonder which third we didn't dominate and why?

Did Oldham suddenly become brilliant or did we start to voluntarily concede ground?

Agreed.

Can see the fans becoming restless if we aren't winning by half-time.

I'm expecting 12 points really.

I just fear we may face another Millwal-esque brick of wall, with nasty c*nts bullying us to 3 points. It worked for Millwall, I'm sure other teams have taken note. If teams come up and play football against us, they will lose - Even Walsall tomorrow, their best chance of getting something out of the game is to go hard and direct at us, form two lines of 5 with a 5-5-0 formation, wham bam thank you man, 3 points in the bag for them. That's what I fear. We don't know how to deal with bullies.

If we're serious about promotion we really need to be picking up at least 13 points with 4 games at home and 1 away.

Walsall - H (away record W2D2L1)

Northampton - H (away record W1D1L3)

Brighton - A (home record W0D4L2)

Bristol Rovers - H (away record W1D4L2)

Yeovil - H (away record W1D0L4)

On current form Walsall is our toughest home game and a point should be a minimum against Brighton team who've drawn 4 but won none.

1, 1, 0, 3, 3 = 8 from 15

Looking back not so good really and not up to expectation, although when I posted this we were second with 23 points behind S****horpe on 25. We're now 1st by one point over S****horpe so in effect we've matched S****horpe and won our game in hand.

Could've been worse, but shows that this league is there for the taking.

I just think it shows that we'd be arrogant to think this league is a piece of piss.

I hope you weren't suggesting i was being arrogant :P my prediction for this season was to finish 7th so I take nothing for granted. I was merely pointing out that after a run of what was poor performances and results for us we're no worse off than when this run of games started.

We have the ability to get promoted like we had the ability to avoid relegation last year but it will take the right attitude and approach to achieve it which was sorely lacking in the previous years.

10 points from them 5 games I can see.

:dunno:
