davieG Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 If we're serious about promotion we really need to be picking up at least 13 points with 4 games at home and 1 away. Walsall - H (away record W2D2L1) Northampton - H (away record W1D1L3) Brighton - A (home record W0D4L2) Bristol Rovers - H (away record W1D4L2) Yeovil - H (away record W1D0L4) On current form Walsall is our toughest home game and a point should be a minimum against Brighton team who've drawn 4 but won none.
JakeShingler Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I think we could win them all with Brighton being the toughest.
davieG Posted 19 October 2008 Author Posted 19 October 2008 I'm expecting goals at Bristol Rovers. With nets on I presume and some corner flags

Daggers Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Fifteen points there for the taking if we hold any real pretension to go for automatic promotion, no excuses. Time for the defense and the midfield to chip in with a bucket of goal too methinks.
DB11 Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 We should win every game in this League. But we won't. It just depends how we are on the day.
filbertway Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I'd be happy with 10 points from that 2 points a game.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I'm expecting goals at Bristol Rovers. I bumped into some Gas Heads on the way up to Oldham (they were at Huddersfiled). They are looking forward to their firts visit to The Walkers thank you very much.
C-man Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I think 12 points would be a decent return for the next 5 games.
harpendenfox Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 To provide some perspective on demands we win all five if we 're serious about promotion. The average points total to go up in second in league one over the last four seasons is 82, which is 1.78 points per game. We are currently playing at 2.3 points per game. After 5 more games we'll have played 15. To be at an average of 1.8 we need to be on 27 points, which is 4 points from the next 5 games. Hard to believe I know, but that's statistics for you. Lets say we win 3, lose 1 and draw 1. That will give us 33 points from 15 games, which is an average of 2.2. Over 46 games that would give us 101 points, which history tells us would have us being champions. We've played a reasonable spread of teams (ie the teams in 3rd and 4th) thus far, so no reason to think our form is unrepresentative of what might lie ahead. So if every five game spread here on in sees us win three, draw one and lose one, we're home and hosed. The average number of games lost by each of the eight teams automatically promoted over the last four seasons is 9, with a spread of 6 to 12. No need to panic if we don't win all the forthcoming games. We're bound to have the odd absurd defeat. We beat West Brom away 6 months ago, and look where we both are now.

I take your point but games aren't won/lost or drawn evenly and these next 5 are against mediocre teams with poorish records away except Brighton who haven't won at home yet that's why I think we need to get maximum points so it gives us a breathing when we meet the teams at the top or teams on a temporary roll.

Don't get me wrong, so would I. I think if we won four and lost one, say, we'd see some real daylight between us and the chasing pack, much like the last season we were promoted to the Prem with Pompey. It could also be this season that the likes of Hereford, Yeovil and Cheltenham 'breakaway' at the bottom (sounds a little painful) meaning we'd need a few more points than normal.
Katy Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 No losses would be great, I've learnt not to expect anything from Leicester.
lavrentis Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere?
JakeShingler Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere? I dont think so open ground to far away from the pitch and other stands. And carnt see many people making the trip. But who knows.
Webbo Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere? I can't imagine that we'll take that many there.
Guest Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere? No it won't.

S'my point So does anyone reckon that Brighton away will be a good atmosphere? Yes, yes it will - it will be a very gay atmosphere.
Thracian Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 If we're serious about promotion we really need to be picking up at least 13 points with 4 games at home and 1 away.Walsall - H (away record W2D2L1) Northampton - H (away record W1D1L3) Brighton - A (home record W0D4L2) Bristol Rovers - H (away record W1D4L2) Yeovil - H (away record W1D0L4) On current form Walsall is our toughest home game and a point should be a minimum against Brighton team who've drawn 4 but won none. One game at a time is my philosophy. Pearson seems fairly satisfied and with swathes of fans seemingly content with a point at Oldham the same would seem to be true of them. I'm not so sure. I didn't like the feeling that we tried to sit on our lead at Oldham and I don't know that the side is being encouraged to develop and to play even better. With the start we've had I really thought this would have happened by now but in fact teams seem to be taking counter measures and making our life harder instead of us posing constantly different problems. To me we're in danger of becoming predictable and therefore easier to combat. Seeing as I don't think Gradel's suddenly lost his ability I don't think we're getting the best out of him. There's just too many people not quite firing full throttle and yet too few players from the squad being involved. None of this will make any impression because we're in the Leagues top two, have lost just one game and there's nothing desperately or obviously wrong. I guess it's just my nature to look for progress being made and, for me, there are lots of things we should be doing better irrespective of what the opposition do. We should be more threatening from free kicks, our big defenders should be making a contribution at the attacking end, our central midfield should be scoring/creating more and so should our right winger. And how many assists thus far from our full backs? Not one between them that I can see. That equates to massive room for improvement.
