Daggers Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Hendo 6 Hobbs 6 - I wasn't unhappy with him, but he's obviously out of place Mattock 7 - Couple of mistakes in the 1st but recovered well Kisnorbo & Tunchev 8 - They were very good and made the leagues leading scorer look tosh Gradel 3 - I'm amazed I can give him that much, one decent delivery and provided nothing else down the flank. Simply dreadful. Dyer 6.5 Oakley 8 - had a cracking innings, really got stuck in and displayed passion in abundance King 7.5 - apart from drifting out of the match for 20 minutes he played a solid game Fryatt 8.5 - Added a whole new level to his game today. Superb. Howard 7 - those who missed his contribution should find new hobbies Adams 7.5 Hayles 7.5 Berner 7 Pearson 6 - Left Gradel on when he should have come off, stuck with 442 when it screamed for a change. It was as if he was scared to make a change...but didn't it just work wonders when he did. All in all, I was disappointed with him for the 20 minutes of the second half. Cops 8 - Funny arrests Rovers support - Simple bloke, angry old man & Badger-man: what wasn't to laugh at...but you applauded at the begining and earned much Daggers love.
Koke Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 One positive contribution that Jack Hobbs made was that super crunching tackle on Aaron Lescott. Unfortunate for Lescott that he got injured in the process, but it was on old school, old fashioned hard tackle and he got the ball. That was great to see. Steve Walsh would've been proud of that.

It was an exact replica of Neville's cruncher on Ronaldo last week

That Lescott had kicked Gradel a couple of times, I think that was a bit of revenge.
Thracian Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 4. are you trying to take the piss or summet? Howard won 90% of his headers whilst he was being pushed in the back, yes his flick ons didnt go to anyone but thats because no one gambled!I'll tell you know if it was Craig King or McKay or porter who played like howard today you would have given them 9 Why you get the impression that I'm a fan of Craig KingI don't know but I cannot imagine Billy McKay playing like Howard, or Porter. Both are full of passing, running and vision. Howard's problem is that when he flicks don't come off there's precious little to his game. He has no pace to make runs across defenders, is frequently pushed too far from goal to be dangerous, he doesn't leap into crosses so that far too many are wasted. More than that, his presence means that we too often take the easy option of lumping it up to him and hoping for something to develop instead of passing the ball forward and having support arrive naturally and in numbers. Howard serves a purpose at times but in general I feel he limits our attack.

Howard was great today! he won his headers, it's not his fault when players don't gamble on his flicks is it really! if he is winning the flick on's he is doing his job. To play to the best of howards ability you need to play it into him so he can bring others into play and he tried that, and today he looked great compared to some of his previous games. How you can give him a 4 is beyond me!
hebangsthedrums Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Hendo - 7 - Did all that was asked in slippy conditions, better than Martin. Hobbs - 5 - Clearly not a right back but grafted and didn't hide away. People who booed him are twats Mattock - 7- Looked to get forward and got a lot of early crosses in. Don't remember many threats coming form his side of the pitch. Tunch - 7.5 - Classy, calm and looks comfortable. Kisnorbo - 7- Did ok, steady and his long diagonal balls were better than they have been. Gradel - 4 - Poor, couldnt beat his man, though in fairness because of the type of player he will either look very good or poor. Straight down the tunnel - maybe threw a strop? Dyer - 5 - Quite quiet today but finished well. Missed a good one on one again. Oakley - 4.5 - Anonymous for large periods again, yes he made a few tackles and actually ran a bit but where was he when they scored? Firing the team up? No in the centre circle, hand on hips. Passing under pressure is poor for a player of his supposed pedigree. King - 5 - As above, still never seen him grasp a game by the scruff of the neck. I don't think Oakley helps as they seem to be very similar. Looks promising in bursts but no sustained impact Howard - 6.5 - Won all his flicks but didn't do too much else Fryatt - 8 - Didn't do too much apart from score. Happy with that though. Adams - 7.5 - Good impact, lots of crosses and tackled back. Bazza - 7 - Got stuck in Berner - 6 - Did ok.

How you can give him a 4 is beyond me! Because I see Howard as a centre-forward, a guy whose first job is to be a threat in the box. His flick-ons are a bonus. If they come off, great. If not, they're no bloody use. Bottom line for a striker is how many goals he scores and how many assists. He drew a blank today on both.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Because I see Howard as a centre-forward, a guy whose first job is to be a threat in the box. For that he needs crosses into the box which neither Gradel or Dyer provided consistently enough. Half-decent crosses only started arriving when he'd been subbed off. I go along with the notion that he doesn't get in the box perhaps as often as he should but the service today was substandard.

Thracian Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Henderson 7 - Communicated with defence and was pretty solid, never in a million years would he have saved the goalHobbs 5 - Slightly better than the last 2 performances, Gilbert still desperately needed though Kisnorbo 5.5 - Kuffour ran him ragged at times, was a bit sloppy but didn't give too much away Tunchev 6.5 - Ruffled a bit in the 2nd half by Lambert but largely comfortable Mattock 5 - Gave the ball away too much for my liking, decent attacking intent though Gradel 4 - His set pieces were shocking and failed to master either of the 3 left-backs he faced Oakley 4 - With time and space he was ok, but when under pressure some of his passing was awful King 6 - Better than anything he's served up recently, tidy passing although wasn't very authoritative Dyer 6 - Needs to work on his crossing but was once again lively Fryatt 7 - Lacked service but kept running and did his job by scoring the goals Howard 6 - Won 75% of his headers but unfortunately none met their target, shortchanged by a crap ref a lot of the time Adams 6 - Better delivery than the other two wingers but not great Hayles 6 - Got an assist and put himself about Berner N/A Officials were horrendous and Bristol Rovers eventually got their reward for play-acting and timewasting with a last-minute goal against. Glad you mentioned the play-acting. They could have done theatricals for England. One day a referee will be strong enough to do something about it.

Koke Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Gradel dives and play acts now and then. He got caught by Aaron Lescott, but he rolled around holding his leg trying to get Lescott booked. When he failed to do that, he got up very quickly and ready to take his free kick. It was no wonder the Gasheads were booing him.

Koke Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 He must have gone to the same play-acting school as the Bristol lads. They had 3 players injured today. I don't really call that play acting. Time wasting, yes, especially from their goalie, but I wouldn't say they were diving and play-acting.

More than the 3 injured were rolling around pathetically, especially in the last 20 minutes. So glad they got their comeuppance and if they continue to do that then I hope they suffer more defeats.

Still, just because other teams do it doesn't mean CIty should - Pearson will hopefully ease that out of Maxi's game, because it has happened before.
Thracian Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 I agree they were awful for gamesmanship, and the goalie was a twat. Still, just because other teams do it doesn't mean CIty should - Pearson will hopefully ease that out of Maxi's game, because it has happened before. The problem for Max is that he's always getting clatterered and if it happens in the first 10 minutes referees allow defenders to get away with it. Gradel knows he's been cheated, remember the cynical foul against Northampton, and, presumably takes the view that if they're going to cheat him he'll try to make them pay. The answer lies with the referees, of course. And they might as well be on a time study. No bookings for half-an-hour; three or four bookings in all and not so many that too many players get sent off and the game abandoned... The very fact that it so often happens like this pays testimony to their inconsistency. They're just puppets on a piece of administative string.
reynard Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Henderson 6 Didn't have much to do but did it ok. No chance with the goal. Mattock 7 Very good first half but less effective second half. Good defensively and supported Dyer well. Tunchev 5.5 Worst I've seen him play. At fault for the goal. Kisnorbo 6 Ok. generally dealt ok with what they had to offer. Hobbs 4 Awful first half. Slightly better for the time he was on in the second. 3 or 4 passes to Gradel went straight into touch. Clearly not a right back. Dyer 6 Did ok but his final ball especially in the first half was very poor. Oakley 6 Much better today. Made some good tackles and really helped drive the team forward in the last 10 minutes. King 7 Best I've seen him play. Positive going forward and actually won some challenges. Rather felt bristol gave him too much space but he tried to use it well. Gradel 3 Just awful against the first left back, equally bad against the second and no better against the third. His crosses are terrible and his corners pretty awful as well. Looks to have lost confidence completely. He had plenty of one on one occassions but lost them all except one or two. Gave the ball away consistently. Howard 6 Again showed good effort and won several headers but unfortunately no one read them. Never looked like scoring though and his lack of mobility means Fryatt plays too close to him some of the time. Fryatt 7.5 Two goals including one class finish. Saved the day even if his overall play was only average. Adams 7 Really made a difference. His first touch was consistently good and his crosses and corners were a marked improvement on what had gone before. He showed good movement off the ball and nearly set up Dyer qith a great pass. Hayles 5 Fortunate not to be sent off but good set up for Fryatt. Probably can only manage 15 mins of effective play. Berner 6 Not on that long but again looked ok.
mmarkie Posted 1 November 2008 Posted 1 November 2008 Henderson 7- No chance with the goal, but certainly felt alot more confident with him in goal. Hobbs 4- His passing was rubbish and all he does is lump it upfield. Kisnorbo 7- Was solid all game and had Lambert in his pocket. Tunchev 7- He's top class, always very calm. Mattock 8- Good game today always looked to contribute going forward and did well in defence. Gradel 3- Couldn't do anything and his final ball was bad. Oakley 7- Played well and some good balls. King 7- Played well today again some good passes and unlucky with that shot just wide. Dyer 7- Good tracking back and good going forward, hard chance to put away at the end. Howard 6- Wasn't very good i felt and won lots of flick ons to nobody but Fryatt should read his flick ons. Fryatt 8- Didn't do much all game but popped up with two goals at the end, the sign of a good striker. Adams 6- Good ball for the last goal and better than Gradel kept it simple. Berner 6- He's strong, and adds a bit of flair,i loved his interview! BAZZA 10- BARRY IS GOD, honestly though a 7, played well I was well disappionted though because I left 5 minutes early and missed Leicester's goals ahhh stupid me.
