lildave3 Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Well i'm loving this so far. Even if it isn't going that well for Calzaghe.
lildave3 Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Strolled it after the first round. Hope it's not his last fight, love watching him.

Daggers Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Calzaghe was cheered on by an estimated 7,000 British fans out of a crowd of 14,000, including Lennox Lewis and former foes Bernard Hopkins and Mikkel Kessler, both hoping to lure the Welshman into continuing his career. British? Surely they mean Britons
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Great stuff. Well done Joe. I think he should retire on this one, not like he needs another pay day.
Finnegan Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! IT'S ALL GONE QUIET OVER THERE \o/. No but seriously, anyone to whom this wasn't obvious needs to take a look at their so-called knowledge of boxing (and learn to trust Ladbrookes when they give astonishingly, massively favourable odds to one boxer over another.) Another immense technical display from one of the most genuinely skilful and intelligent boxers of his generation. No doubt there'll still be a few eyerollers claiming Jones Junior was past it (possibly fair) but who cares? You can only beat what's in front of you and Calzaghe has done that time after time after time. I only hope Enzo's shown the sense he's displayed consistently through Joe's career and gives his ear a good tug, dragging him off stage while the crowd are still cheering. He needs to not be inspired by his buddy "Roy" and leave his career hanging around to be jeopardized. British? Surely they mean Britons Brythons!
Samilktray Posted 9 November 2008 Author Posted 9 November 2008 Gutted. The cut on Jones's eye clearly had a massive effect on him, not that I'm making excuses because for the latter stages Calzaghe dominated. But Jones for me is still the better boxer. I hope theres a rematch, I'd love Jones to do Calzaghe in his own backyard.
Jack Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Can't see a rematch happening, but a rematch with B-Hop in Cardiff looks like it's on the cards. Oh how I'd love Calzaghe to go out on a loss in Wales.

But Jones for me is still the better boxer. I hope theres a rematch, I'd love Jones to do Calzaghe in his own backyard. 1. There's really no way to prove who's the better boxer, so I can't really put in an argument - they've never fought each other at both respective peaks so it's something of a no brainer. 2. The cut on Jones eye wasn't some accident or fluke that just happened to then hinder his match. It got there because Calzaghe was out-boxing him. 3. I sincerely doubt Jones would come and win in Cardiff. Oh how I'd love Calzaghe to go out on a loss in Wales. I just really don't quite get the hostility. You all know me, I hate to call anything Welsh "British" and I'm all too happy to big up any succesful Welshman, but Calzaghe is the archetypal British sportsman. He isn't cocky or mouthy or full of it*, he's consistently underrated outside of his own backyard, he's got a hell of a chin on him, he's nearly always in the shadow of another boxer even in his own country (Hatton, etc) and he always wins graciously. I don't quite understand what's not to like? I think Sam's being a bit of a berk and a somewhat embarrassing wannabe yank, but if he's sincerely a Jones Jnr fan (and not just some wigga poser) then fair play to him for supporting his favourite - but just maliciously wanting to see one of the UK's most prolific and succesful sporting figures go out on a low after a staggering 40+ fight undefeated career? That's just dumb. I was genuinely disappointed for Ricky Hatton after the Mayweather fight (less so when he went on to do Bernard Manning inspired stand up, but yanno.) You all confuse me, really. We moan and moan and moan that our rugby teams or football teams or tennis players or cricketers are rubbish and when we've got a real sporting power all we want is to see him fail? Stupid nation. *By boxing standards
coale39 Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Can I watch this fight on the internet somewhere? Cant find it.
Jack Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Why? I have mega respect for him, I just don't like him. Simple as that, really.
Finnegan Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 I have mega respect for him, I just don't like him. Simple as that, really. I don't really like Lewis Hamilton (too much of a sap) or Andy Murray (too fucking miserable, you're a famous sportsman - smile for fucks sakes) but it doesn't mean I want to see them fail and embarrass themselves when I see those around me clearly take great joy and inspiration from the fact they do well in the name of the UK.
Jay Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 I have mega respect for him, I just don't like him. Simple as that, really. how can you "just not like him" that's just a ridiculous statement imo it's not as if he is outspoken, arrogant or obnoxious he's quiet, polite, well mannered and a genuine person who is proud of his heritage and family. what exactly has he done to justify this? If you can take a dislike to someone like him then you have seriously high standards

I dont see the big fuss to be honest, you either like someone or you dont. If you like that person and someone else doesnt you just get on with it.

If you like that person and someone else doesnt you just get on with it. Hm, but like I said, there's a difference between simply disliking someone and wishing them failure. The former's human nature, the latter's just simply childish. Like I said, I don't particularly like Lewis Hamilton, I find him insufferably boring and overly nice and I'm sure there are people that will think that's a ridiculous thing to say. I also quite like Kimi Räikkönen and would probably prefer to see him win than Hamilton, but that doesn't mean I'm going to make obnoxious and silly statements about hoping Hamilton flunks every race. I wouldn't say I'm proud of Hamilton or what he's accomplished, but I'm glad he's done it and I'm glad it gives other people pride and a sense of identity. Boxing's much the same, to me.

Finnegan Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 Never said he was any of them things, just don't like him. You'll grow out of it, I suppose.
Finnegan Posted 9 November 2008 Posted 9 November 2008 No. Well, let me rephrase, either you'll grow up and learn to see more than just petty dislikes and the world beyond yourself or you'll grow into one cunt of an adult.
