Not a great pic, but interesting (well to me).

Out driving on Sat and saw a big roo killed on the road, dragged it off to the side, checked the pouch...and found this poor little thing

Just hope the little thing survives now.

Have you taken the joey to some sort of  a rescue centre or are you tending it yourself Oz ?

It looks very young  to survive to me , but good luck anyway

Cracking scenery pics again Mikey  :) the mountain stream ones would look great as a mural in the right setting .

Nice. I like such stuff. I'll add you as a contact on Flickr.

I took this photo last week on long expired Kodak film and with a polarising filter to darken the sky, I quite like the effect:

We have been wildlife rescuers for many years have had many many creatures through the doors...so initially looked after it, but now passed on to a Roo specialist.

He really is very very young....The general survival rate is about 60% so... fingers crossed.

Nice one.

I mowed down a wallaby years ago, but wasn't aware of the pouch checking etiquette at the time so I drove on. Now I know better...

I'd have thought it would be quite dangerous to approach a big wild  animal if you'd just hit it while driving. Surely there's a good chance you've just stunned it and it starts kicking out wildly at you ?

But maybe that's just the sort of scaredy cat I am !

Yeah I'd be the same. Some of those roos are huge.

ozleicester's clearly got balls...big ones.

Getting taken out by a wallaby would be embarrassing though

Edit: I did hear a funny story along those lines from a national park ranger at Carnarvon Gorge. He said two french tourists had picked up an eagle that they'd found stunned by the side of the road and put it on the back seat of their car. The eagle came to, tore up the car upholstery and scratched them to ribbons  :D

He must have bid nads , but that just increases the risk of getting a red flier's foot in that vicinity !!

i heard a similar story over here about a lorry driver and a pheasant , it didn't shred him but it gave him a nasty shock and nearly caused him to crash .

Hmm do i stay quiet and revel in the ever increasing reputation of the poor mans "crocodile Leicester".. or do i make clear some important facts...?

1) the dead roo had clearly been there for some time (dried blood etc) = no threat

2) It didnt have a head, so i was pretty safe in assuming = no threat

Most importantly... for many years we  (with her since she was 5 years old) have been Widllife carerers/rescuers.... possums, wallabies... gazillons of native birds...but my daughter was the pouch rummager and general joey recoverer on this occasion.

Guess my nads have now been shrunk back to reality :(

(last update as we wont keep in touch with the carer, but after nearly 5 days, the joey is still alive and maintaining weight  )

So....you dragged a bloated, headless roo from the road, then let your daughter rummage through it's rotting corpse? I've lost all respect.  :P

Seriously, fair play to you both. Most people wouldn't have bothered, including me.

back on topic, here's a couple of pics I took in Pt Stephens
