Corky Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Has anyone contacted the mercury, see if anyone there feels as strongly as we do and see if we can get some posters printed like when we wanted pierpoint out and martin stay posters. Surely it will boost paper ales as well. The Mercury going against the club? You've got one hell of a battle getting that one done mate. I'd save yourself the time and effort.

Then I think it would be pointless.

Corky Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Hmmmmmm. Basically just said what was happening. Nothing great, should of made back pages! We would of been laughing It worked really well when we beat Coventry 3-0, but then it died out. Quite annoying, I thought it could have gone on for a while and we'd get a decent atmosphere most home matches.

Kilworthfox Posted 5 December 2008 Author Posted 5 December 2008 Yeah the club didn't help it in the end, well throughout. Thats why it died. The club were in favour of a singing section to improve the atmosphere, however there was coin throwing from Cov fans into N block and the club withdrew its backing due to H&S. Also I don't believe they loved the fact that most if not all of N was standing. Also There were many complaints from the family stand, some of whom were awoken during the game due to the singing.

There are some sections of the family stand who don't like the language and behaviour of the the away fans either. I know why clubs put family stands next to away supporters, but the deterrent effect just doesn't work with those it is aimed at. This is why I have said on a number of occasions that the Kop and North Stand should be swapped. Better still, remove the "two generation" criteria to go and sit there, and it means those who already sit in the South Stand don't have to move, and they will then be sat with like-minded people who are there to watch the game and not contribute to the atmosphere.

Yeah, I'll still never understand this. I know at Filbert St., the family stand was opposite the Kop, but why does it have to be the same at the Walkers? Families with young kids are going to hear shouting, swearing and singing from the away fans anyway, so why should it matter it N block do it too? Move the family block to the West Stand, or even the corner of the west stand (so they wouldn't have to move far) and pen the away fans between two groups of loud City fans. Surely the club can see that when you get a noisy group of away fans, the away team is really lifted. Look at Millwall! I know we didn't play well at all, but their fans were excellent and all we had was L,K, a bit of N, and some of the Kop.

We only have to look at the family stand on a matchday to see that families aren't using it, this season it has been 3/4 empty for every game. I'm so glad that people are debating this because it's now got to the stage that 50% of the reasons that I support Leicester City have been taken away. I hope the club tries to address the problem as I could be one of the next to drift away as most of my mates have now done. It really isn't complicated to work out, all you have to do is have your noisiest fans near the away section, if this isn't possible then an unreserved seating section in the South Stand, where like minded fans can gather and start songs without 6 weeks planning over tickets. Don't treat the fans like some sort of performance tool for the main stand by getting us to clap along to rubbish. Teach stadium announcer to announce (preferably the Leicester team first being as we are at home!!) and not be a poor childrens entertainer, and we'll do the rest as we have done for the past god knows how many years.
Floating Fox Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 It worked really well when we beat Coventry 3-0, but then it died out. Quite annoying, I thought it could have gone on for a while and we'd get a decent atmosphere most home matches. It could have worked so well if the club had got behind us properly. The little drum would have worked a treat instead of the big stupid thing we have now. Jobber can't drum anyway. They came down on us for persistant standing as the Safety Group in the Council didn't like having two areas of the ground standing. The club wouldn't put up a fight against them. <_<
Kilworthfox Posted 5 December 2008 Author Posted 5 December 2008 It is great that everyone is almost of one mind on many issues concerning LCFC, but what as fans are we going to do about it? I and a few others have pledged to act to carry out the wishes of the majority on what we feel are important issues, however it will be so very pointless if we have 5 of 10 people standing up for an issue vs an apathetic 19,000 fans who have their voice spoken for them by the club because of their inactivity. The club assume the "quiet majority" agree with the club, and this is their get out when pressed on the important issues to us fans. FFS Stand up & be counted, or lose the opportunity to at least have a voice at your club.

Why do you think that the 19,000 are apathetic? maybe they're just contented.
Kilworthfox Posted 5 December 2008 Author Posted 5 December 2008 Why do you think that the 19,000 are apathetic? maybe they're just contented. Maybe 19000 don't have an opinion? Maybe they do? Lets find out!

James. Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 Why do you think that the 19,000 are apathetic? maybe they're just contented. Maybe they're split 50-50. I've always said the biggest challenge is making apathetic fans care and getting contented fans to change their mind. Both very difficult if not impossible tasks.
Kilworthfox Posted 5 December 2008 Author Posted 5 December 2008 Off you go then! What is your opinion on this subject?
Hullfox Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 What is your opinion on this subject? Personally I don't like the music but quite obviously can see that many people do join in. Do I feel as though it spoils my "matchday experience" no, absolutely not. I'm just happy to see the team win for a change and am of an age where I feel that slight annoyances such as the goal music do not make me feel as though my life is being ruined and that I should take action. Do I think that you should protest? If you want to yes. Do I think that you are doing the right things to bring about change? Not from what I can see but I am no expert. I think that there are many annoying things about Leicester City at the moment but I work all the hours god sends and don't have time or inclination to campaign against twats dancing to Chelsea Dagger. Neither do I see the point in moaning because L block wasn't open for the JPT or getting aggrieved because stewards act like twats to someone else. Call it apathy if you like but my drive and energy these days is all behind making a better life for my family.
GLC Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 Sadly, I could see the club choosing "Dagger", I really could they would say its part of the club now
Fosse Boy Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 Let's not get this wrong. It's not going to be a quick fix. A flash protest at Peterborough may get the ball rolling and make apathetic fans aware of the campaign, but it won't convince the club to change policy there and then. This may well start off with five or ten of us looking like pricks holding up bits of paper, but if over time that snowballs to a point where the campaign becomes effective then it'll all be worth it. As I've said before, it's not ideal that I don't have a season ticket or live in the area for most of the year, but I'm willing to help whenever I can, in whatever way I can (i.e. setting up the facebook group).
davieG Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 This poster you're aiming to hand out, if you make it available on line perhaps people could print off their own and a few extras for their companions. Just a thought.
