Goal Music & The PHG

Recommended Posts

It was terrible.

A bit of the horn then straight into the Dagger crap.

It's a rubbish compromise and still had me pausing my celebrations whilst the music played and continuing after it had stopped.

It is seriously ruining my enjoyment of goals.

We score.... I celebrate.. and then suddenly I remember what's coming :(

I like it when there is at least a small delay before the music when they seem to be caught slightly unawares.

When it's a penalty I know it's going to come straight on - rubbish

Hopefully this is the end of the dreadful Dagger at Filbert Way (the other Dagger(s) is fine, this one isn't so popular :P )

Here goes:

I read the 4-4-2 article and thought hmmm, I could ring them!

So I did,

This is how I understand the conversation which I had with Jeff from the PRS...

It turns out that all football clubs have to pay The Performing Rights Society for a license to be legally able to play copyrighted music to a public audience. Dependant on the audience and what is played there is a new system of tarrifs for football clubs, as it was felt that since louder more frequent music was being played a higher charge was justified, so that the artists were not being exploited.

Oldhams average attendance is lower than Leicester City's therefore a higher charge will apply to leicester City, also Leicester City play The Fratelli's Chelsea Dagger, which was why the song which was being most played at many football grounds, and the PRS felt that that song inparticular was being played the most. This song is the reason for the interest in this subject & subsequent rise in tarrifs for football clubs who are not only playing "background music" The music after goals at football stadiums is not background music, because of it's higher volume.

Football clubs are invoiced by the PRS on behalf of the various artists, Football clubs have to pay for a public broadcasting license. The cost of the license is dependant on how many people they are playing music to. Clubs who play goal music will now pay a much higher fee for playing louder music. The license is invoiced a year in arrears, therefore this rise will come into effect next year for Leicester City Football Club.

Specificly I asked Jeff if this will be a president set for all of football, Jeff said no. I asked him "if" he could investigate what license Leicester City Football Club has had, as over the past few seasons the volume and music that they play has changed alot, and I enquired "if" their license had been updated?

He asked for LCFC's post code which I gave as LE2 7FL and I requested that he investigae this matter.

I am awaiting an e-mail, as a concerned member of the public  I would hate for the Fratelli's to be exploited every other week at the football  On a completely unrelated matter that song makes my ears bleed :D

I need to add that Leicester City Football Club could stop playing this NOW and incurr a lesser fee in the future, See I am looking after LCFC's finances

I am not sure but I would have thought that the new style PHG will cost them a lot less in royalties. If Chelsea Dagger is removed for cost reasons, surely there's a chance that the goal music will revert to a blast of PHG as per before Mr Allen's intervention.

As requested I am writing to confirm that PRS for Music licences are invoiced in arrears for stadiums. We have recently changed the way we licence stadiums to ensure that we are accounting for the numbers attending at the games, and to ensure we have this information we are only able to calculate the licence value after the games have taken place.

well on that basis we'd be paying around 4 or 5 times more than oldham - and £16kish is a lot of money to pay to blast that crap out over the PA.

this is probably the only time i've been glad that mandaric is such a tight bastard :fc:

WHAT THE ****, we have to pay royalties to play that awful tune each time we score a goal!?

If thats' the case I am shocked- Milan is a fantastic business man, everyone knows that, but how does this make any business sense at all? We're just throwing money away if thats' the case.

When the teams walk out we should have that chap playing the PHG live, like he use to do on the half-way line or by the tunnel, linked up to a cordless mic. And when we score... CELEBRATE! Thats' it, no stupid ****ing dancing to a london song, it should just be fans cheering followed by a 'duh duh duh duh- Matty Fryatt' etc.

I hate the way football, and LCFC, is being modernised, its' a joke, actually really gets under my skin. Our stadium is the most souless out of all the new-build style stadiums, its' just a shell with no real identity, and the architects displayed such a lack of creativity. Look at MK Dons stadium compared to ours, character wise, much better.

The club should at least let us keep some tradtional values, like the ORIGINAL PGH when the teams run out, not the sh*t 'remix', which is doing nothing to connect to the youth (laughable in itself), and get rid of the dagger.

And this is coming from a Leicester fan of indian origin who is very much in touch with his roots and religion. But I still value the traditions of LCFC, not all this modern american cr*p.

But seriously, apart from that there are some very good points well made in that post.

don't understand you there at all - if anything it's worse, firstly because it's not even finished and secondly because it's in the middle of nowhere whilst at least our ground is close to the site of Filbo. and of course it was financed by wankleman

agree with the sentiment tho. hopefully this will make some clubs wake up and see what a stupid mistake they have all made. thing is 85% of our club's fans are like putty in their hands

Completely agree, not been to MK so I don't know about that matey

Traditions are not something that I feel ashamed of, in fact i am proud of the original PHG and our former atmosphere, why a need to change it is very bizzare to me!

In many respects it is/will be far superior to ours, the fact that it's not finished or in a crap location doesn't mean that as a build it isn't superior.

Just on the positioning of the concourse makes it better, our concourses are appalling.

I find it interesting that we don't have the FNF's any more. Also, as those have finished, the music and crap that accompanied those matches (which you could put with there) have crept into the first-team matches <_<

But I can't believe we are paying to play that shit tune

When we score :-

I get two or three seconds of celebration in.

Await control-freak to start dreaded music.

Sit down whilst cursing said person.

Await monkey dancing and music to finish.

Leap back up for a few seconds of celebration.

Maybe if enough people did that, they could visibly see that some people hate the music.

Unfortunately most people do seem to like being led by the tannoy.

This is exactly what I do too, it would be quite noticeable if thousands of people did the same, the flyer idea has merit as well, celebrate, stand still and hold up poster during the CD then re start celebrations post CD, fans forum is a no go, waste of time and energy, maybe a song, you can insert your chelsea dagger up your anus would attract attention, after all we can sack managers, ruin players and upset chairmen so surely ridding the club of an embarrasing piece of shit music must be within our powers !

Only problem with the PRS thing is that it will almost certainly also apply to, for instance, playing 'Heroes in Blue & White' before matches. PRS regulations are stunningly complex.

Small price to pay my friend!

Agree completely apart from the MK Dons bit

Can't argue with that but we are in the minority.
