davieG Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Following the government's decision to lower the rate of VAT from today (Monday), Leicester City have decided to make donations to selected chosen charities, rather then go through the costly exercise of re-aligning their entire ticket pricing structure. From December 1, the rate of VAT charged on products sold in the UK has been reduced from 17.5% to 15%. And whilst logistical issues have reluctantly prevented the club from reducing ticket prices, the club plan to calculate the discounted VAT element on all tickets sold between now and the end of the season and donate this sum to charity. City Chief Executive Lee Hoos explained the reasoning behind the Foxes' decision. He said: "Administrative issues have made this difficult to implement. For example, an adult ticket is £23, minus the 2.5% equals £22.43 and an Under-22s ticket is £15, minus the 2.5% equals £14.63. "Additionally, a lot of tickets have already been sold at the pre-VAT reduction rate and if I were a season-ticket holder then I would feel very hard done by, not to be receiving some benefit. "However, we feel that it would be wrong to be profiteering from this reduction so we have therefore made the decision to donate the difference to several chosen charities at the end of the season. "Additionally, we are discounting a number of items at the City Megastore to ensure our fans are getting outstanding value for money." The Megastore is open until 7pm every Wednesday between now and Christmas for late night shopping. There are hundreds of gifts available - including the new 250 Goals DVD, the Official 2009 Leicester City Calendar, Leicester City Dart Boards, Leicester City Poker sets - there really is something for everyone. So make sure you get down to the City Megastore at the Walkers Stadium every Wednesday evening up until Christmas - with doors remaining open until 7pm on the night. Can't make it to the Megastore - then shop online at www.lcfcdirect.com

If the club had just made the season tickets and match ticket prices more reasonable at the season start then they wouldn't feel the need to trot out these pointless excuses about dodging VAT cuts.
Lillehamring Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 no doubt they'll forget to factor this into the inevitable ST price hike next season
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I can't believe the club is getting stick for this. They could easily have said nothing and profitted from it. I'm cynical but criticising this is UNBELIEVABLE (Jeff).
Matt Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Yeah I thought that, Some things the club deserve to be moaned at but there are some things the club just can't win on and still get moaned at, I'm sure someone won't be happy with this offer LCFC. Just as I wrote earlier The club can't do right for doing wrong.

I'd have been quite happy if the club had given lower prices for both season tickets and match tickets before the season started and not provide any offers, or in this particular case tell us of their donations to charity, throughout the season. It's only a personal preference mind you, I respect that some people might find the discounts and offers more useful than slightly cheaper ticket prices.
Guest Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I am happier to see the money going somewhere more useful than in the Governments coffers.

Your telling me 57p on a Adult ticket, or 37p on an Under-22's ticket would make the difference? I know over a season that would accumulate. £15.39 for an Adult ticket throughout the season, or £8.51 for an Under-22's ticket throughout the season, but chances are you will miss atleast 1 game throughout the season.

I was talking in general mainly, I'm not particularly bothered by the fact they aren't taking the VAT off the current prices. My main disappointment is the fact that adult prices are £23 in the first place and season tickets are quite expensive. As I say, if the club had said at the start of the season adults fixed price was something like £17/£18 I personally wouldn't bat an eyelid if we had no offers or discounts at all throughout the season.
Maybes Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Perhaps doing their calculations correctly might be a start
Collymore Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 They could have offered discount on foxes travel or something. We're a football club not a charity.
Shrenchel Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 Many other clubs have managed to overcome the complete logistical nightmare by simply rounding the figure up or down and taking either 50p or a quid off ticket prices. Still, seems a bit harsh to criticise, hopefully the blind people will enjoy their shiny new guide dogs and we'll all go to heaven.
Lets Be having You Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 Moaning gits, nice to see some of you have the christmas spirit, good call by the club.
Monk Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 Am I the only one who thinks this is a big con? I mean, I'm all for charitable donations, but how difficult can it be to reduce all prices by 2.13%? It sounds like they have already printed most of the tickets for the remainder of the season and it would be too costly to re print them. I don't really care too much about such a small price reduction, but to me this seems like an agenda to have an excuse to put ticket prices up more next season.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 I think they should give the money to me. All of it. I have no justification for this at all

I think it is a nice gesture by the club but have a few issues with it, the main issue is that the club can offset charitable donations against it's tax bill, surely they should donate the amount of the offset as well or they will have made on the deal. If they wanted to reduce match ticket prices and make it fair for season ticket holders they could have given them a voucher to use at the shop or food outlets.

An adult ticket pre-tax= 23/1.175 = £19.57 An adult ticket inc the new 15% VAT = 19.57*1.15 = £22.51 not £22.43
Raj Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 Im a charity. Give to me..... P.S well Done City...nice gesture......but tell the truth...no one could be arsed to change all the price tags...LAZY BASTARDS!!!
