Webbo Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 So did we have a bit more width when attacking with Gilbert at RB? He put in a brilliant cross after about 3 minutes but after that he seems reluctant to take people on. When he did get into advanced positions he made an easy back or sideways pass rather than go forward and cross. Maybe he'd been told to do that by Pearson I don't know but Powell seems to get forward.
Maybes Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 nice game nice result nice performance and it weren't that cold down there today.Im 50-50 on Fryatt, he's proven not to be a championship striker, and he's not irreplacable. The way hes talking in his interviews tells me he will probably leave, and i rekon to Wolves. I wouldn't want us to keep him if we have to pay him £25,000+ a week he's not worth that. Last season in the championship he made 30 appearences and only scored twice. He's not a championship striker so sell him in jan. lol lol lol Whatever.
Thracian Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Did someone almost mention on the radio that it was 1982 when we last had a player who scored back-to-back hat-tricks? Anyone know it that's true and, if so, who it was?
Koke Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Right now, I want to shag Matty Fryatt. I fancy the lad. 22 goals so far is good at any damn level just by looking at him you see a man who's shit hot at the moment. Good overall team performance, although Southend offered very little.
maddog Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Did someone almost mention on the radio that it was 1982 when we last had a player who scored back-to-back hat-tricks? Anyon know it that's true and, if so, who it was? Yes but he got interrupted by Pearson So didn't find out.
maddog Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 lol lol lolWhatever. Those are the sort of wages he will demand with the amount of goals he's scored. He knows teams like Wolves will offer him at least that. Howard, Clemence, Dj, Oakley the guys we spent money on must be on £15,000 a week each at least. Fryatts probably only on £5,000 a week now, he will want to be on a lot more than them. If he wasn't a greedy bastard he would have signed a new deal by now.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Good game, Enjoyed it, Couldn't be spoiled by another woeful ref, Did anyone see the offside in the second half when the lino had to be told by the ref where to stand comical stuff. Well done Matty.
Simi Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Good performance. Lacked a little bite in the midfield at times, I'd probably start Davies ahead of Berner on today's showing. Howard and Fryatt both played really well, lovely play by Howard for the second goal I think it was. Good stuff.
Koke Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Aye, I'd also start Mark Davies next game instead of Berner.
Thracian Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Pearson used the same word to describe our performance as the one I was thinking of on the way back to my car - professional. Using three in midfield has enabled us to counter the opposition's inclination to swamp that area and today, even during the long period at 1-0 I never thought we looked likely to be threatened. Fryatt might have benefitted from the work of others but he took his goals as only a striker in form can do. He was clinically functional to the point where Southend's centre-back seemed panicky whenever Fryatt was anywhere near him. Once again I'd mention the referee. Surely we should have had a first half penalty for a foul on Howard. Even from the South Stand the incident looked well inside the box although I'll stand correcting by anyone who was closer. And aren't deliberate back passes to the goalkeeper penalised with a free-kick any more, if delivered with the feet?
Thracian Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Aye, I'd also start Mark Davies next game instead of Berner. On the face of it I'd say "me too" but Pearson might be wanting to give Davies a bit more time to pick up the pace and style of the team. The lad has not had a lot of football and City don't need to rush him.

He'd be extremely lucky to get £15k even with his form at the minute.
Maybes Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 Get a grip mate.... nobody will offer him anything like £25,000. He'd be extremely lucky to get £15k even with his form at the minute. Exactly. I cant imagine many players that are on 25k plus outside the premier league to be honest. Some of the top players in the championship yes, of which Matty Fryatt is not.

You might be closer to the truth if you half those figures, especially as most of those will have taken a pay cut when we got relegated
Maybes Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 In other news, where has the Leeds fan got to? Not so big now eh?!
Tevez Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 I'd still sell Fryatt. Guaranteed he won't be able to cut it in the Championship. Teams pay players for form not quality these days. I'd cash in.
Thracian Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 In other news, where has the Leeds fan got to? Not so big now eh?! I wonder if Roy Keane could be tempted to join Leeds as manager.

I'd cash in. i agree with you to a point however i'm worried that at the moment we're relying too much on his goals - we're not in the championship yet would you feel confident about DJ or Dickov getting 22 goals in the second half of the season?

CosbehFox Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 I'd rather keep him til the end of his contract than sell him in January The problem is though how much bad karma could an unhappy player have within a squad chasing promotion?

It was and it should. The standard of refereeing in this league is beyond a joke. It's not the first time this season an assistant hasn't known what they are doing. I could do a better job running the line!
MC Prussian Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 On a sidenote, I find Fryatt's picture on the BBC Sport homepage rather disturbing and I don't know what to make of it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/e...v_2/default.stm
