We have a Media Centre PC for all our TV/recording/music/dvd/videos etc. so much nicer and cheaper than a dedicated box, can only get freeview on there though, freesat would be great as HD would be very nice. The PC Upscales the SD from freeview, and then applies a sharpen filter and a couple of other processes which makes the picture look very good for SD, but no comparison to proper HD.
PAULCFC Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 We got Sky HD put in just before christmas and to be honest were really impressed by the pic quality for a start,but then after the novelty has wore off i sometimes watch footy or films in normal def,not thinking that the same thing's on another channel in HD.The recording bit is what sold the sky box to me as i do shifts.In fact just finished watching Oz Clarkes and James Mays new program.

I got a bill today for £124 for the month. Wouldn't mind but I am at work all day, the Mrs is at work and the kids at school, does Freesat offer Sky Sports News? I can live without the football, I can go round a mates or down to the pub to watch games I really want too. Movies I can buy pretty cheapish now, or download. I think the only thing I would really miss at the moment is Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and that's in it's last episode next week. How are people finding switching from Sky to Freesat (for those that have)?

No freesat doesn't have sky sports news but that is available on freeview so you can get it, channels like sky news, dave etc which are on freeview also aren't on freesat. Liking the freesat HD footy matches (surprised how many there are on ITV at the moment actually). It can be a pain if you want to switch between sat channels and freeview channels (Dave, Virgin 1, SSN, SN etc) but I'm still happy with the choice.

Never got a PPV thing ever. Only ever watch stuff on regular telly. The two major hurdles to losing Sky would seem to be: 1. Losing the cricket. 2. Losing the familiarity and comfort of the Sky+ system. These are both major obstacles to overcome. I don't give a rat's ass about HD as there's clearly nothing amiss with regular TV and no-one will ever persuade me otherwise. I'll have to give FreeSat a butcher's, or just Freeview....frankly I could live with BBC1, CBeebies and Dave.* * And by that, I don't mean live with Lil Dave.** Although he is welcome to come round and watch CBeebies. ** Or indeed any Dave. *** *** But I'm not Daveist.

I know you don't, that's why I quoted Nationwider Anyway, you're not paying for the TV, it's thrown in there as part of the bundle. Without V+ it's £25 a month for L Broadband, M TV and M Phone. Without TV it's £25 a month for L Broadband and M Phone. I'm currently paying £35 for the equivalent (up to 8 rather than 10Mb) without the TV. Grrr, stupid BT 95% of our area is cabled. At the moment I'm paying £35 a month for the equivalent of what I posted without the TV through bloody BT. Grrr. My street doesn't have cable products, the majority where I live do.
