lildave3 Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Saw a few minutes, was all I could take. I missed Bruce though! BOOORRRNNN INNN THE USA! (I'm guessing he performed it, what with it being his biggest hit and all that)
General Smuts Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Well, I watched the first half of this last night until I got frustrated enough to turn it off. There's ****ing adverts every 10 seconds! Aside from this I quite enjoyed it, despite not really knowing what the hell was going on. I watched the first half as well, and am genuinely gutted to have missed the 3rd and 4th Quaters. I was actually quite getting into it, but went to bed expecting an early start this morning due to the snow. Foolish. Does anybody have any highlights? I can't find any anywhere which i find ridiculous considering the magnitude of the game. NFL has gone up in my eyes tbh. Didn't expect to enjoy it at all but i was properly rooting for the Cardinals all the way through the first half and was gutted with that uber interception/TD thing from Harrison (?). Hopefully at some point today there will be some sort of second showing of the game (hopefully without Jake Humphreys).

(I'm guessing he performed it, what with it being his biggest hit and all that) Err, no he didn't. It was a classic final. Steelers had it in the bag, then somehow lost it, and then recovered to win it again at the end. Still, Cardinals are the ultimate franchise club, having started in Chicago before relocating to St Louis and then Arizona. Looks like they'll have to wait a bit longer for their first trophy.
JakeShingler Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Wached the first 5minutes. What a load of bollocks.
MC Prussian Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Wached the first 5minutes.What a load of bollocks. Good post. Although a bit bare.

General Smuts Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Try this.. Ta matey! Just caught a bit on SSN as well. But all the lingo - goobledegook!
C-man Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Don't have a fooking clue whats going on but quite entertaining. This has raised american football a little bit in my ratings. Never really liked the sport. What annoys me the most is all these silly breaks. Obviously made for adverts. Anyway rant over; has been entertaining and frustrating to watch. I wouldn't say it was made for adverts. They just manage to fit adverts in as they know there will be breaks lasting however many seconds. I play in the BUAFL and we have the same sort of breaks as the NFL does and our games last around 3 hours.
hairy Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 I see one channel streamed a porno instead of the commercials http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7864733.stm
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Great spectacle. Pittsburgh were always going to be favourites, and rightly so, but without the Cardinals putting a decent shift in, the game could've been absolutely shocking. Credit to both sides. No credit to Jake Humphrey.

Finnegan Posted 2 February 2009 Posted 2 February 2009 Forgot it was on until the 3rd, had a glanc and thought Pittsbugh were winning comfortably and opted to go back to the missus. How foolish.

syston_fox Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 After managing to avoid the score all day, I checked my e-mails and caught sight of the score by mistake just before I pressed play on the recording. Quality second half to the game though! What an initial comeback only to lose it in the last minute. Heartbreak!
Samilktray Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 I loved it. Big hard bastards ploughing into each other. Got me well and truly pumped as fuck.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 Shit! Forgout about this thread with all the hype around the snow and deadline day. Well in a word. Wow! I still dont fully understand the rules behind it but it is still a great spectacle to watch. Unfortunetly I had to watch the BBC's commentary on the game as the old fella watched Sky so Jake Humphrey's started to piss me off. One question what does the 1/10 and 2/20 thing mean? I have no clue what so ever. My Superbowl food recipe didnt fail to deliver, ate all of my Doritos but couldnt finish off the Salsa dip. How un-American is that? Finished the 2litre bottle of Coke so had a mega piss this morning. Was a great end to the match even though I had no clue what was happening, nice to see the Steelers coach drowned by the massive Gatorade bucket. Highlight of the night - The staggering stats that were released today about so many thousands/millions will have the day off in America due to hangovers. Brilliant. There was something that TV shows had to pay millions of Dollars just to have a 5 second advert on during Half-Time. Amazing.

There was something that TV shows had to pay millions of Dollars just to have a 5 second advert on during Half-Time. Amazing. The first number is the try, the second the amount of yards to go. For example, 1/10 means 1st try (out of 4) with 10 yards to go until the next first down. Basically, the attacking team gets four tries to cover 10 yards - should they get there, they'll get another first down (and another four tries). All of this until they manage to get to the opposing end zone. Should they fail, however, they have to give possession back to the other team by a kick. This is mostly done after three unsuccessful tries - the fourth is usually used for those kicks. Does that make sense?
Guest Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 It was a cracking game to be fair. First Superbowl in a few years that I've managed to stay awake all the way through, aided by the fact that I was working nights around it anyway. Can't wait for the Tampa vs New England game at Wembley later in the year, managed to snag myself a couple of tickets, and despite not supporting either of those teams it'll be a great experience to finally see a live NFL game
StanSP Posted 3 February 2009 Author Posted 3 February 2009 I'm glad I stayed up until 3rd and 4th quarters, as before then it was a bit too regular. Livened up when Fitzgerald started playing. And a great finish to a great match with Santonio getting an amazing touchdown - even though I wanted Cardinals to win
