JoeyB Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Leicester City's 2-2 draw with Hartlepool United on Tuesday extended the club's current unbeaten league run to 19 games - a record that has equalled the Foxes' best ever sequence. That figure was previously achieved over two seasons in 1971 - starting with a goalless draw at home to Hull City on 6 February. From there, City's promotion push from Division One gathered momentum with a run of 17 unbeaten games through to the end of the season, culminating in a win at Fratton Park on the closing day, where the club celebrated the title. As with this season, the run was for league fixtures only, as the club did exit the F A Cup at Highbury during that spell. City then extended the sequence to 19 games in the opening two fixtures of 1971-72, before going down 0-2 to Derby County at Filbert Street on 21 August 1971. The sequence consisted of 11 wins and 8 draws, compared to this season's effort of 13 wins and 6 draws. The previous best single season sequence was a run of 18 unbeaten league games set in 1924-25, en route to the club's initial Second Division crown. That run started with a 3-0 win over Derby at the Baseball ground in December and ended with a 2-1 reverse to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road the following April. If City avoid defeat at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday, a new overall record will be established. Link I hope we beat this record with a nice win at Rovers on Saturday.
BlabyFox Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 It's not the same achievemnet as it would of been had we beaten it in the championship pr prem
Matt Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 It's not the same achievemnet as it would of been had we beaten it in the championship pr prem But we're not, So be happy and give some praise, Records are their to be beaten, We are in League One because we were not good enough last season (And the last 5 seasons) and we can only play what is infront of us. Well done City, Please lets break and go over this record and WIN on Saturday!
Thracian Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 It's not the same achievemnet as it would of been had we beaten it in the championship pr prem It's just as good in its own way. It's not as if we've got Premiership players up against Division One players is it? In fact Pearson has rebuilt a team from scratch - the scratch being representative of little more than disillusioned players and tactical ineptitude. So for Pearson to not only build a new team, establishd the team spirit, help take us to the top of the League and then go so many successive games unbeaten is every bit as worthy as one of the top four massively backed clubs doing so. For any team, manager or club to go 19 games unbeaten is a massive achievement. Everyone involved deserves credit. and, as division one is the league we're in, that's the only football that's relevent to us.
MC Prussian Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Division III is the new Premiership. Time for a new Divisionship League.
whitlock Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 What ever league we're in, what ever team could manage 19 unbeaten league games, its some hell of achievement! Good old boys!
Corky Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Well done to Nigel and the players, it's an achievement worth mentioning and praising. Make it 20 with a win at Bristol.
Cobbo Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 It's not the same achievemnet as it would of been had we beaten it in the championship pr prem
Zingari Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 More than makes up for our loss of status as being one of the select teams ever present in the top two tiers , calls for brandys all round i'd say
