I always find it strange when a manager leaves players out for a very important match, now Utd might have to beat wolfsburg in germany to top the group, if they dont Utd could face a very tough game in the next round, Ferguson may well rue those changes.

Posted
It ended 1-0

Liverpool beat Besiktas 8-0 a couple of seasons ago :giggle:. My how times have changed!

Not really, Besiktas beat Liverpool in Istanbul that same season. It was just a freak result.

With 6 minutes of stoppage time played, it just got to the point too close to 100 minutes to carry on.

6 subs = 3 minutes.

1 nasty injury with the cut head, that was two minutes alone, another player with a twisted ankle. So much time wasting for the Turks too. Five minutes was more than justified tonight.

Exactly, arrogant Fergie. ITV still stuck a Q next to their name on the table, must know something we don't.

Obertan if he can sort out his passing could be a player.

6 minutes of extra stoppage time for Man utd is also, amazingly, 6 minutes of stoppage time for Besiktas (or any other opposition)

I'm fairly sure they'd qualified before tonight?

They've definitely qualified.

Yeah cos I'm sure Besiktas we're thrilled with that, I bet their manager was pointing at his watch urging the fourth official to keep adding on time,

But it's still their job to defend or maybe even attack and grab another. Either way it's a chance for either team to score. Whether it's fair or not, a team isn't gonna just stop playing at 90mins.

They do put a Q next to people who have qualified, yes.

They've qualified but now may struggle to win the group.

lol this confused me yesterday with Liverpool. They're not using goal difference. It's decided on head to head meetings.

Silly rule really.

What the hell are you on about?

I don't care about whether 'you' will have won more Uefa cups than anybody else.

That really shows the attitude of Liverpool fans, it's as if you've already won it.

Well, you'll have to get past the likes of Fulham, can you just remind me of the score against them??

That's the same as saying United won't win the Champions League now because we are out and we have beat them 3 times out of the last 3 games, scoring 8 goals. Swings and roundabouts.

Why arent Liverpool fans going to fancy their chances in the Europa League? The third/fourth best Champions League team in recent years, so they really should be up there as favourites for the trophy.

Albert, forget about Liverpool and rejoice that Ronaldo is back.

Yeah I know mate, lovely sight seeing the magician back, really hope he can produce the goods in El Classico. :D

Because this year they are an awful team. They have struggled go find any form. The fact they have done well in previous years Champions Leagues is irrelevant. That was in previous seasons it's a differnt Liverpool now.

The biggest problem with Rafa's Liverpool is that the the first team when all fit is brilliant, up with the top European teams, but you take one player out of that team and it goes badly wrong. It's like the team is a formula and only work when all the componants are put in. It's because Rafa plays a system that is reliant on Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano and Johnson being fit. Take one out and the system goes to pot.

What did we think the best goal was last night? These guys have gone for Milos Krasic's winner for CSKA Moscow, but surely it has to be Barcelona's team goal against Inter Milan? Pure class! Which one did you think was better?

Robbie Earle on ITV's highlights show, being the 'expert' that he is didn't even include the Barcelona one in his top three for the week! Did they have to pay more to show that footage again or something?!

I haven't read most of the thread, so I don't know if this is been discussed, but are other people finding the champions league more and more tedious?

It seems to me that now the historically big european teams have now become so huge with the continuous CL money that they seem to go through the motions in the group stages and there is no tension whatsoever, even the knock-out stages seem to have an air of inevitability about them recently.

To an extent, yea. Certainly the group stages. Normally gets a bit more exciting by the last eight or something! Depends how many English teams are involved though..!

That's the whole point of the "Champions League" ennit?

I think that has been true of some years, and the second group stage was certainly a nadir of UEFA prioritizing money over sporting competition, but is it really true of this season?

The following teams are all heading into the final fixture with the possibility of being eliminated..

Juventus, Bayern, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona.

Liverpool and Athletico have already been eliminated.

Unirea Urziceni, Rubin kazan, Dyamo Kiev and Wolfsbrg all have the chance to go through.

It's hardly been a tale of the unhindered progress of the traditional European power houses.

I concur in that I'm becoming increasingly less interested in the entire competition. Teams are routinely putting out weakened sides now against some of the dross. It's just pretty dull IMHO.

Bring back straight knock outs so that any old rag bag team has a chance of winning it.............twice. :giggle:

Not trying to undermine your point, Trev, but I'm not sure Wolfsburg deserve to be lumbered in with Rubin and Unirea. Decent side, tbf.

Very decent team, but they are hardly a historical power. They just won their first ever Bundesliga.
