Mcintyre right now. Can't get enough of him.

Lee Evans, Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr are closest I guess. Like most comedians though, I guess i'm just a jolly fellow :P

You know I like McIntyre, but don't you think there's a bit too much of him right now? He needs to go away for half a year and reappear with some fresh material. I've heard his Valentines Day gag on at least 7 different occaisions now (including live  ), getting a bit tiresome.

I don't know where you're seeing all this lol I don't even know which bit you're talking about :P

"I still love you, see last year's card for full details..." etc, etc.

Ah, still makes me laugh. :dunno:

I've watched his DVD (a few times), I've seen both his Apollo gigs, and i've seen him on Jonathan Ross. What else should I have seen?

Rhod Gilbert

Ed Byrne has been my long time favourite alongside Dylan Moran. I own a fair bit of stand up really, I love Dara O'Briain but not as much really as I used to. Mock The Week took the shine off of all those comedians, really, it's a bit off watching them do their material in that format. I used to love Andy Parsons, but again it's the same problem really.

I love a lad called Alun Cochrane as well, who's pretty stella. And you can't beat Noel Fielding's early work.

I could basically rave about stand up forever. Used to sit and watch the stand up stage at Reading more than the bands! Adam Bloom and Marcus Brigstocke were AMAZING a few years ago (I say 'a few', I actually mean about five hah.) I adore the both!

Rich Hall, as well. Oh and George Carlin. Ooooh and John Pinette and Jeremy Hotz while we're discussing that lot over the pond. And Glenn Wool. ^_^

I'm quite liking McIntyre as well, but as someone said, he is getting a bit repetitive.

A bit like Stephen K Amos, where almost every show he does he always does the 'BABBOON' joke. Funny first couple of times, but now it's pretty lame.

It's not their fault, though.

It's the fault of the Brittish public. People have such a selective want for comedy. You want to see Michael McIntyre, Frankie Boyle and Russell Howard and that's about it!

Proper, decent comedy is still a largely "underground" thing and people like Michael McIntyre are used to touring for over a year with the same material and never seeing the same crowd twice. All of a sudden they luck out and become flavour of the week and are expected to do big, mainstream shows every couple of months and they just haven't had the same lifetime to build up material as the likes of Eddie Izzard or Bill Bailey.

:dunno:

I don't mean to sound like a snob - but mainstream comedy is mostly rubbish, I mean when Lee Evans and Peter Kay were "the big thing" I was just bemused. They're utter garbage. I love Michael McIntyre but I don't think he's quite as pants wettingly, intensely good as the current hype would suggest.

You don't know what comedy is if you haven't seen Robin Williams @ The Met, 1986.

My current hero:

Frank Caliendo. More of a brilliant impersonator, though.

I'm sorry but Robin Williams is endlessly funnier as an actor than a stand up.

That's true, which is sad because as an actor he's one of the most unfunny c**ts imaginable.

You have no soul.

And clearly haven't seen:

Stewart Lee.

Ross Noble.

The middle aged woman that does the pubs in leeds and makes lots of jokes about her friends being raped, I don't know what her name is.

Jimmy Carr was very good, enjoyed that alot.

Still won't displace my top two though, Rich Hall and Bill Bailey, they weren't out and out laugh at everything comedians, it was a bit more subtle and sophisticated style humour with the amazing musical blend, really enjoyed those.

Would recommend this tour of Jimmy Carr's though, very funny!
