Koke Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner 6 Gilbert 7 Morrison 6 [almost cost us] Hobbs 8 [immense] Mattock 5 [How many times did he get skinned by Henry?] Cleverley 8 [Hard worker, creative, kept our attack going] Oakley 8 King 7 Dyer 5 Howard 7 Fryatt 7
James. Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Will do proper ratings tomorrow probably but thought Andy King was superb. As was Hobbs. Probably slightly lucky to come away with 3 points but **** it it's another win and another step towards being champions. Great support as well.
Tilley Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 All this based on the radio commentry Jesus wept!! Warner 7 Gilbert 7 Hobbs 9 Morrison 7 Mattock 6 Cleverley 8 Oakley 9 King 7 Dyer 5 Howard 8 Fryatt 7
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner- 6.5 Mattock- 6 Hobbs- 8.5 Morrison- 7 Gilbert- 7 Cleverley- 8 Oakley- 8 King- 7 Dyer- 4 Howard- 8.5 Fryatt- 7 Barry - 7 (did well when put on the left wing I thought!) Kis - 6.5 well done lads, superb and important win
leftsideoverhere Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner - 6, too many punches, but that nonchalant catch towards the end when all the Millwall fans were up on their feet was priceless. Gilbert - 7, stood up well to physical game, made some probing forward runs Hobbs - 8, powerhouse at the back Morrison - 6, not as evident as the other three, but no real mistakes Mattock - 7, as Gilbert, really Dyer - 6, made some runs but still too timid when running at defenders King - 7, impressive, but not as impressive as... Oakley - 9, awesome, involved in everything, and he's remembered how to take threatening corners again Cleverley - 8, just everywhere on the pitch yesterday Fryatt - 8, threatened, chased, ran, held up the ball, stood up to the Millwall physical defence Howard - 8, pretty awesome, the goal, the running(!), the fact that Millwall could not bully him Subs Hayles - 7, did well in holding up the ball at the end, and beat their right back just in front of us in the closing minutes to almost nick a second (which I thought was good, until I saw Arshavin on MOTD) Kisnorbo - 6, not on for long, and still probably not quite match fit, but great to see him back, definitely not a weak point when he come on Pearson - 8, right team for the job, and his post-match salute to the traveling fans was clearly very heartfelt Blue Army - 9, pissed all over the supposed 'roar'
Guest Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 but that nonchalant catch towards the end when all the Millwall fans were up on their feet was priceless. It was just slightly too casual for comfort at the time, but in restrospect pretty funny
SamL Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner (6) Gilbert (7) Hobbs (8) Morrison (7) Mattock (6) Cleverley (8.5) Oakley (8) King (7) Dyer (6) Howard (7) Fryatt (7)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner 7 Gilbert 7 Mattock 6 Hobbs 8 Morrison 7 Dyer 6 Oakley 8 King 7 Cleverley 8 Howard 7 Fryatt 6 Hayles and Kisnorbo not on for that long but both contributed a lot to the victory - great substitutions by Pearson (I wasn't convinced at the time by the Kisnorbo substitution but it worked perfectly) and two great individual performances to see out the win. We weren't really greatly threatened once Alexander had gone off. Hobbs was absolutely superb and Cleverley showed tremendous desire.

Guest ttfn Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 The team today played excellent, it was hard to believe that most of them players turned up at Tranmere on Wednesday. I think today though, apart from the team putting in an excellent performance, Matty Fryat proved he is not good enough to play against top teams. He should have scored once, he should have been in better positions than he was most the time, he looked very slow and un interested in scoring. The team has certainly improved since dropping Berner. It's a pity though that we didn't sign another striker in January because Barry Hayles is awful. Cleverly got my man of the match today, he worked hard all over the pitch, always got forward and seemed the only player trying to score another goal come the last 30 minutes. Hobbs had an excellent game apart from his clearances. He needs to look up a lot more. Up the City!!! Are you serious? He's got three goals against MK this season (3rd) and 1 against posh (2nd). You need your head seeing to mate, the bloke's got 28 this season,a number of which were crucial. Let's give him another go next season before we start jumping to conclusions about a new look Matty. Furthermore, his work rate was absolutely superb, and at times his touch and composure was a class above anyone else on the pitch. He wasn't at his best yesterday, but let's not write him off before he's had a chance under Pearson.

There's no doubting he's good enough for this division, but he's got a lot to do to prove to me he's good enough for the Championship.

Cobbo Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Hobbs motm by a distance, was fantastic. I agree with that. I did keep seeing 4 of him mind you which may have improved his rating. He was quite literally everywhere (in my eyes).
Thracian Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I agree with that.I did keep seeing 4 of him mind you which may have improved his rating. He was quite literally everywhere (in my eyes). That sounds like some session. Pity there weren't a few more Dyers. He might have skinned his full-back then.
clazkel Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner - 6 Looks dodgey at times, flattened Gilbert, defence seemed ropey at times due to him Gilbert - 7 Got forward and supported Hobbs - 9 Immense, what a great game he had, won everything in the air Morrison - 7 Solid, made one vital block Mattock - 7 Tried to get forward where possible, but had to work doubley as hard to make up for playing on the same side as Dyer Cleverly - 8.5 Tries to create, opens play up, gotta sign him Oakley - 8.5 Captains performance King - 8 Was up for the fight, didnt look lightweight, had a great game Dyer - 6 Lightweight, wasnt up for the fight Howard - 7 Won alot in the air, shame he was booked as he will be out for 2 games now Fryatt - 7 Alot of running, but seems to have lost abit of confidence
Hackneyisblue Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 For me, Mattock doesn't rate anything higher than a 4 as he was ripped apart in the first half, improved slightly in the second, but he is not a defender. If he can be punished like that by a third division side then god help us next year.
CosbehFox Posted 16 March 2009 Posted 16 March 2009 that nonchalant catch towards the end when all the Millwall fans were up on their feet was priceless. That was quality. Made even more hilarious by someone's reaction to it behind me. 'Oooo Tony Warner. No need to catch it, piece of p*ss. Don't even bother diving.' Oakley MOTM. Closely followed by Hobbs and Cleverley. Mattock was pants again.

But to be fair, Dyer recently hasnt offered much going forward and especially coming back. At times it practically is Mattock by him self on times on the left. Still got to remember, Mattock is a young one and still learning, i think he's doing a decent steady job!
Thracian Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 But to be fair, Dyer recently hasnt offered much going forward and especially coming back. At times it practically is Mattock by him self on times on the left. Still got to remember, Mattock is a young one and still learning, i think he's doing a decent steady job! Mattock may still be learning but he's had a fair amount of experience now, including at a higher level, and he's still not quite the force I expected. He seems to have been Joe Average in the main. You always expect some inconsistency with young players and that has been the case with King, Gradel, Porter, Stearman and Wesolowski in the past but with Joe I've seen little of the impact he sometimes had at Academy level. Even under Rob Kelly he was able to show some attacking flair, featuring quite well as a left-sided midfield player on occasions. But nowadays he's essentially a defender and not one who always seems 100% comfortable. Indeed, on one of two occasions when he pushed forward at Millwall he looked uncertain in possession while, defensively, his opposiing winger escaped to get a cross or pass in rather more than I'd like. Against that, we kept a clean sheet, allowed the opposition very few chances and came away with three points from a difficult place. For the last 15 minutes there were no runners to help offer him a get-out pass anyway when he had the ball because we'd reverted to time-wasting tactics. So maybe you're right and he's been a bit better than he's seemed. In any case, we've got no better alternative.
