Daggers Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Colchester United have signed Preston North End striker Karl Hawley on a one-month loan. The 27-year-old forward has scored five goals in 35 games for the Championship side since joining from Carlisle on a free transfer in the summer of 2007. Hawley spent two months on loan with Northampton earlier this season where he netted two goals in 11 appearances. He is the second Preston player to join Colchester on loan within 24 hours, following defender Neal Trotman. It's not going to be easy, they are pushing for a play-off slot and don't want to come to lose and we're lacking Steve's commanding presence up front. I expect a lack of goals and some miserable bastards moaning on. Bring on the beer.
ousefox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 C'mon Citeh. I want to see some Barry Hayles today!!
Candidcamera Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I think we are in the home straight just get a result City.

Crap not one single shot never mind on target, Dickov - bloody useless but not as bad as the one up front we played in the 2nd half.

FoxInWales Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Come on City!!!! 3 points today PLEASE and a good performance. Not too much to ask surely?
Head Honcho Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Come on city I can't make the Leeds game so win this and hopefully promotion will be guaranteed at Hereford

Thracian Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Theory: Smashing day. The sun's shining. Just right for an afternoon of attacking football. Reality: Cagey game, our alternative striker running out of steam after half an hour, 1-0 to Colchester.
StanSP Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 2-0 win I think. Whoever replaces Howard will do alright, but they won't match the presence that Steve has - or at least it will be difficult too. Fryatt and Oakley to score either side of half-time .
Asha Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 1-1 draw for me. King equalising late on after Perkins puts them in front.
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 We will crush this team. I'm expecting us to run the midfield and get our goals from there. If they come at us like Peterboro' did we'll pass them off the field of play. 4-0. Their fans appear confident of victory... I'm predicting a 3-1 victory. U's 2-1 ahead with 20 minutes to go, Leicester chasing, scoring our third near the very end. Job done. Clearly deluded.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Personally, I believe today doesn't have many goals in it...... But I'd take 1-0 City
Fox You Forest Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Good job I'm on my third beer. At 8.33am, the first step is admitting it. I'll go for 2-0, one early on and one late on with alot of nothing inbetween.
MC Prussian Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 The season's coming to an end and every single team has something to fight for - be it the ones pushing for promotion (playoffs) or the ones trying to escape relegation. Now, can't use the Cheltenham game as a good comparison, but I hope we can finish this campaign in style. Colchester is not to be underestimated, but with the right approach, we can pull off another "Millwall". Just, please no 4-5-1 from the start. Who's going to pair up with Fryatt up front? Hayles? Chambers? Dickov? Either a narrow 1-0 or a lucky 2-0.

Nothing I've seen so far this season suggests we have any sensible there alternative to Howard up front. But we could play quite a fast and inventive 4-5-1.

Fryatt and Oakley to score either side of half-time . a lot has been posted here on the absence of howard, but from what i have read about the last few games, howard hasn't been that special, i think this break will do him the world of good, a new face in the team today could give us a new spark. midfield seem confident again, so i think we'll do this....

Hoping Chambers will start - give us some pace upfront. Plus a different dimension as opposed to knocking it up in the air for Howard to flick on. But whoever NP picks, I just hope they do well and not run for 10 minutes and be knackered!
MPH Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 my heart is bursting with enthusiasm from this season. it would be the perfect game to start Ashley chambers in - he would have all the space from the close marking of fryatt and bang 2 goals in, grab their keeper in a headlock and whisper to him " Who's your daddy?" Barrerra style but knowing pearson he is likely to just pick Hayles instead.

About time he got a start as in previous sub appearances he seems to have had some kind of effect.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I've got 1-1 on the scorecard aswell.. We will struggle... we will be foreced to play to the kop in the first half aswell, and be put in the sun... we always lose the toss on sunny days FACT! They will park their away support behind the goal with the players.. we will go long ball, and not realise howard isnt playing. sigh sigh sigh... such a beautiful day, yet destined for such a disappointing result
Mickey O'Neil Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 1-1/1-0 to us, although I hope I'm wrong . 4-5-1 from them doesn't do us much favours
Tilley Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 1-1 for me I think, unfortunately. Can see us struggling without Big Steve tbh.
