Fox You Forest Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 It needs an Argentina goal or the games just going to drift away in to nothing, Brazil look to strong at the back though. I honestly can't remember Robinho being mentioned at all, oh he's just been fouled.
JimmyK Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Great game to watch, but I wonder how much longer Maradona has left in charge?
lildave3 Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Enjoyed watching every minute of that. Kaka's pass and Fabiano's finish Just after Argentina had got back in it aswell.
Daggers Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Great game to watch, but I wonder how much longer Maradona has left in charge? The wave of Maradonamania abated months ago. Buenos Aires started to turn against him when it came down to Player vs Manager, his most ardent fans. Riquelme just set fire to the pyre Maradona built for himself. An outstandingly stupid appointment which could yet see Argentina fail to qualify, I'll be amazed if he lasts the next seven days.
Father Ted Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 You know that Maradona is a terrible manager when he promises that he will continue to play Jonas Gutierrez even though Newcastle were relegated!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Wouldnt it just be so typical if the Argentina scraped 4th place or even won the playoff. They might not be playing well but I doubt very much that they wont be in SA next year.
purpleronnie Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Love watching brazil...its like watching brazil. Argentina defence was terrible but Brazil going forward are imense and their defense is great too I think they'll push spain all the way in WC. Oh and BTW USA USA USA USA!!!!!
JimmyK Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Both teams were good going forward, but Brazil's defense was tight and Argentina's was woeful. Interesting to see Fabricio Coloccini on the bench, is he even playing for Newcastle atm? Also the commentators continually suggested Julio Cesar was possibly the best keeper in the world, is this a commonly held opinion that's passed me by?
AjcW Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Statistically speaking he most definitely is. I think he is good, but no he's not the best.
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 September 2009 Author Posted 6 September 2009 I have just about recovered after all that football. I would be surprised if Maradona is the manager come the Paraguay game on Wednesday. Some of the banners around the stadium last night shown the public have lost faith in him, did they have faith in the first place? I can see Argentina qualifying for the world cup still but I can see Paraguay beating them on Wednesday, he has it all wrong, the defence is awful, he is not picking the right players. It wasn't the worst performance from them, I thought they looked good in spells, they just happened to come up against a strong Brazilian side. Bring back Basile, whilst he didn't have a playing career to the standard of Maradona, his experience of managing teams is top class and he knows the Argentinian game inside out. Worrying times.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Julio Cesar is a solid enough 'keeper, wouldn't say he's the best in the world, though.
lildave3 Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 They were saying on the commentary that he had called up an uncapped 29 year old, and an uncapped 36 year old! Yet didn't call up Higuain? What on earth...?
Ultra Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Both teams were good going forward, but Brazil's defense was tight and Argentina's was woeful. Interesting to see Fabricio Coloccini on the bench, is he even playing for Newcastle atm? He is, but he missed the game against us because the Argies invoked the five-day rule.
StanSP Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 Well, Argentina lost 1-0 against Paraguay (who have now qualified for the WC) last night. Argentina are now 5th in the table. They play Peru (who are bottom) and Uruguay (1 point behind Argentina, and 6th). Ecuador 23 points Argentina 22 points Uruguay 21 points Venezuela 21 points Next round of fixtures 10th October: Argentina vs Peru Ecuador vs Uruguay Venezuela vs Paraguay
Joe. Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 So how many go through in South America? If it's three then Argentina have to win both their last two matches to stand any chance of going through. EDIT: If it's 4 though, they'll be absolutely fine.
StanSP Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 So how many go through in South America? If it's three then Argentina have to win both their last two matches to stand any chance of going through. Four . Even if Argentina came 5th, they'd face a playoff against Central American side I think. But they can't take anything for granted. Forgot to mention that Colombia are in 8th place with 20 points so they have an outside chance.
Darkzzz_ Posted 10 September 2009 Author Posted 10 September 2009 It will be a struggle with Diego at the helm.
StanSP Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 It will be a struggle with Diego at the helm. SHould he be sacked this late on though? If so, would a new manager have enough time to recover the team from this situation?
Darkzzz_ Posted 10 September 2009 Author Posted 10 September 2009 SHould he be sacked this late on though? If so, would a new manager have enough time to recover the team from this situation? I think the question is, should he have been appointed in the first place? Argentina shot themselves in the foot really and have nobody to blame. I love Maradona and I really wanted this to work but having sat through many late nights of his shocking management I can't see any major improvements happening any time soon, a national hero potentially ruining his beloved Argentina's hopes of a World Cup Finals. Basile will get them fired up for the next two games. :-)
lildave3 Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 SHould he be sacked this late on though? If so, would a new manager have enough time to recover the team from this situation? Course he bloody should He's ridiculous. Forget the goal against us, the decision to bring into the squad an up and coming fresh defender for his debut at the age of 36 is my new personal Maradona highlight.

I couldn't give a shit about that to be honest. I think he should be sacked too. i was just asking a couple of questions...creating conversation/discussion/debate etc..

I meant the one where he took it round about 17 players and generally looked like a young me.
StanSP Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 I meant the one where he took it round about 17 players and generally looked like a young me. Still couldn't care . It doesn't really matter. I'm guessing he learnt all his skills though from you
