RowlattsFox Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Not great news but I don't think Gilbert has been very good for a while now anyway, opposition always seem to target him and on the ball he is mainly poor, you can't fault his energy and willingness to get forward but to say we will miss his attacking ability is a bit far-fetched because I don't recall him creating too much this season. Mattock gets a lot of criticism, rightly so currently but I think Gilbert has the same weaknesses and doesn't get anywhere near the same amount of stick. I'd play Morrison at right back now, but I'm expecting Hobbs to be there.
Collymore Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 He's never really impressed me that much to be honest. A good athlete but not a natural footballer, I wish him good luck in his recovery though.

Consider who's going to replace him though, where's any attacking threat coming from?

Gilbert was far enough upfield to be falsely credited with a goal quite recently and on other occasions he's got into excellent scoring positions only to either fluff them or decline to shoot at all. But on a decent day he does get forward and, while he may not be that effective going forward, his support often offers another outlet and helps us to continue an attack. Walsall away was one example although his ball control that night was less than convincing and not for the only time.
Katy Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Shame this. The team really have to pull together now, we are dropping like flies! Much as I'm looking forward to the rest of the games, part of me wants the season over today.
MPH Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 with 5 games to go until the end of the season and the situation we are now in i do not think it will be a bad thing at all to get experienced old heads like Edworthy into the game.
RowlattsFox Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Consider who's going to replace him though, where's any attacking threat coming from? Very true. I was just saying that Gilbert has been off form for a while now and when he gets the ball in attacking positions he either goes backwards or controls it awfully and loses it. I wanted to put Oakley on the right this saturday, but with Gilbert out I don't think we can do that. I don't want 2 players on the right who don't naturally play out there.
lookwhaticando Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 18 months ago we'd have been alright, we'd have had at least 5 others to chose from. Bring back Martin Allen.
Joe. Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Hopefully his Kerrea will not be affected by this. Cheeky.
Katy Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Hopefully his Kerrea will not be affected by this. Oh dear.
Koke Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Morrison hardly fills me with confidence at CB, nevermind at RB.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Backline for Hereford Mattock - Morrison - Kisnorbo - Hobbs Are we fooked or not?
Father Ted Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Hmmmm... what about 3-5-2?? With 3 of Hobbs, Morrison, Brown or Kisnorbo forming a back 3.
Katy Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Backline for HerefordMattock - Morrison - Kisnorbo - Hobbs Are we fooked or not? fooked!
Guest Bilo Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 fooked! I was trying to kid myself but it's no good.
Koke Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Backline for HerefordMattock - Morrison - Kisnorbo - Hobbs Are we fooked or not? Pretty ****ed. Mattock is a liability and Hobbs at RB is a recipe for disaster. Hereford wingers will have a field day.
Lillehamring Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Birch said on moan in Gilberts dislocated his shoulder like Cleverly, and gone back Arsenal, and won't play for the rest of the season.Which IMO leaves us pretty screwed as we don't have another actual right back apart from Edworthy who certainly won't be match fit. What could go wrong next for us Frank Sinclair on an emegency loan
carterfox90 Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Morrison can do a decent job at full back. good shout & maybe shore up our leaky back 4 at the moment
Ultra Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 A back four of Edworthy, Hobbs, Morrison and Powell will be OK, certainly against Hereford. But if Pearson plays THREE defenders without match fitness (Edworthy, Kisnorbo and Brown together), then we could have problems.
carterfox90 Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 i think it time for steady heads powell in for mattock who imo has not lived up to expectation this year edworthy morrison in for kisnorbo are we allowed any loans now or has that window closed now ?
leicesterseddon Posted 7 April 2009 Posted 7 April 2009 not sad to see Gilbert go back because he's been one of our worst first-team players this season IMO. however, I'm worried about the fact he's gone back right now seeing as we have no real cover... this is turning into a perfect cock-up
