Head To Head: Hereford United

Posted on: Wed 08 Apr 2009

HEAD TO HEAD

The two clubs have just 5 times in the past, with 3 of those clashes coming in the F A Cup and 1 in the League Cup. At Edgar Street, City have recorded 2 wins and a draw in our 3 previous outings.

EARLY MEETINGS

The first meeting came at Edgar Street in the F A Cup Fourth Round in January 1982, when a Larry May goal was enough to take City through, en route to a semi-final appearance.

RECENT HISTORY

The most recent clash at Edgar Street came in the League Cup in September 2006. City won that tie 3-1, thanks to goals from Elvis Hammond, Richard Stearman and Iain Hume. Last December, the first ever league meeting between the two clubs took place at the Walkers Stadium. The Foxes ran out 2-1 winners, thanks to strikes from Steve Howard and Andy King.

SEQUENCES

To date, City are unbeaten in all 5 previous meetings with the Bulls, winning 4.

DEBUTANTS

No Leicester player has made his Foxes' debut in any of the previous meetings with Hereford.

BAD BOYS

City's Patrick Kisnorbo and Trent McClenahan from the Bulls were both red carded in the most recent clash at Edgar Street between the two clubs.

FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS

The smattering of players to have represented both clubs over the years includes Trevor Benjamin, Alan Birchenall, Nicky Cross, Andy Feeley, Colin Gordon, George Heyes, Tony James, Bobby Kellard, Johnny Newman, Bruno N'Gotty, Jimmy Quinn, Kevin Russell and Winston White.

What we are playing Hereford first? Reading most of the thread titles, you would have thought Leeds would be a our next game!

I think this is a great chance for us to gather momentum going into the final games and a win would give us massive confidence going into Monday! We really don't want the added pressure!

Hopefully Morrison will return in place of Kisnorbo but I can probably see Brown coming in instead of Gilbert. Probably have Berner in the middle too with Oakley on the right with Gradel dropping to the bench...but we'll see I guess!

I'm really looking forward to this - lovely little ground, our squad have a point to prove and there's decent pubs available. Even better, it's just down the road so it cost me nuts for the train journey.

Roll on Saturday.

"It's so quiet, Edgar St" doesn't really work as well.

Time for Leicester City to hold their nerve - Nigel Pearson Nigel Pearson insists his squad's nerve is strong enough to meet the challenge if they have to play catch-up for the League One top spot for the first time since November.

If Peterborough beat bottom club Cheltenham at London Road tonight, they will nose one point ahead.

That would leave City needing to win or draw at Hereford tomorrow to go back to the top of the table.

Manager Pearson said: “We have got five games left and they all represent a tough challenge. The next time we take the field we could very well find ourselves in second place and that in itself is a big challenge.

“Because our form has not been as good as we would have liked and others have put together some fantastic runs, it has got a lot tighter.

“Now it is a time for keeping our nerve and making sure we achieve the standard to which we have aspired to all season.

“It is going to be a tough run-in and, as always, it is about what we do ourselves.

“We have put ourselves in a good position but now it is about keeping our nerve.

“The temptation is to look elsewhere.

“But it is up to us to keep our side of the bargain.”

He added: “We have got those five games left and it is about what we do.

“It is more interesting than it was a couple of weeks ago and I would rather be in a position that was a little more comfortable.

“But we are still in a very strong position and it is important that, collectively, we see the job through.

“I have great belief in the squad to do that.”

But for the moment, City watch and wait to see how Posh get on tonight.

If it is indeed a case of having to regain the leadership, Pearson is convinced his men have what it takes to do that - and stay there for the run-in.

Whatever happens City must not panick. Hereford rarely stay the full 90 minutes. I think they will come out all guns blazing and City will be the stronger team. The old heads will be used to the pressure. I would play Kisnorbo but not play Hobbs at right back he is a centre half.

Well let's hope these old heads of Kisnorbo, Brown and Warner panic less than they did against Carlisle to gift then a draw.

Anyone know why Peterborough's game is before ours, tonight? Infront of the cameras or something...

Good Friday is a public holiday for many people so some clubs have chosen to play today as there is full programme on Easter Monday thus giving them an extra day to recover, we're not one of them.

They were too fast asleep to be panicking for the second.

I've got a feeling this game is going to be a eventful one.

Either a thrilling 3-3 draw, a cracking 5-0 win for Leicester or an easy 3-0 win for Hereford.

I just can't see it being a boring one.
