Ultra Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 They didn't really contribute to our relegation, they just did what they had to and won. Surely it was Nigel Pearson not Southampton Football Club? I'd say there are at least three managers who had more of a role in our demise than Pearson..
ASH17LCFC Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Couldn't happen to a better club. Atleast we don't have to play them next year and lose as usual.
Filbert_Ross Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 It's quite shocking where the money from Walcott, Baird, Jones, Bale etc have all disappeared. they accepted early lower payments on most of them players and they did splash the cash at the start of one season one the likes of Rudi Skatchel etc...

Who to be fair was awesome at Hearts and i at the time. I thought it was a great signing. He was scoring goals for fun and Hearts were Top and won the Cup. 1.6 at the time, did seem like a good deal.
Alexikokopops Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 ...and they were in the top flight for 20 odd years and they didn't contribute to that either - one of the dullest teams in the world, glad to see them tumble. They contributed this and that's more than enough for me

TrickyTrev Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Amazing how many ex prem club have been to/going to the depths of league one. Bad times for those concerned. If Leeds stay down there league one will be a very tough league next season. I hope they stay down. It is tough when you get relegated from The Premiership Everyone signs your best players so you don't have the same quality as when you went up before. You have a losing mentality having been beaten for a season. The parachute payments don't go on replacing the quality, they go on paying the Premiership wages of the players you can't get rid of. When you lose the parachute payments you usually still have some deadwood from the premiership years and no way of paying it off. I don't agree with the 10 point deduction rule. But as it is in place this was the correct decison. The parent company had no other income other than the football club, they were the same thing for all intents and purposes.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 I read the Saints are going to appeal but the FL (and PL) appear to have quite a good record (!) at beating appeals of any sort. I reckon they might be worth a punt next season, maybe not automatic promotion though as I agree with what has been said in previous posts about some bigger teams in L1 next year. They are currently in a much worse position than we were. Lowe has well and truly fcuked them over. I'm not going to gloat though even though we have been dreadful down there in recent years.
act smiley Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Bit harsh given that Derby pulled this stunt and got away with it, hope they get back up , ok st.marys is a bit dull but there's worse places to go out there (and I say that as someone who went to the cup game last season!)
Fox92 Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 I'd say there are at least three managers who had more of a role in our demise than Pearson.. You know what I mean though, it wasn't really Southampton.
Joe. Posted 25 April 2009 Posted 25 April 2009 Officially relegated today, so they'll start next season on -10. Going to have to be a good season to mount a promotion bid now.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 25 April 2009 Posted 25 April 2009 Wheyyyyyyyyyyy Southampton shall rot in the lower leagues. Good times!
Ultra Posted 25 April 2009 Posted 25 April 2009 Officially relegated today, so they'll start next season on -10. Going to have to be a good season to mount a promotion bid now. Leeds did OK with a -15 start. It depends how many of the saints players leave in the summer.
Mort Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 Could get a whole lot worse yet... The Football Conference has been sounded out about the possibility of taking in Southampton should the club collapse during the close season. (The Non-League Paper) ...that said you'd have thought that somone is bound to attempt a take over so Saints avoid the very worst happening.
C-man Posted 26 April 2009 Posted 26 April 2009 Minus 10, who's gives a fuck We've got shit stewards and we're going up Seriously, that minus 10 start might put off some potential buyers.
AmericanScott Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Southampton will go out of business in eight days unless they find a buyer. (Various) serious stuff now

davieG Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/ap...re-threat-buyer What a sorry state when fans, many probably on relatively lowish wages collect money to save/buy the club and it ends up in the pockets of the players who've been party to the clubs relegation whilst drawing lucrative Championship wages. It might have been a nice gesture for them to waive their right to be paid in the circumstances.

Bert Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Ah man. As much as I don't like them, I hope they don't go out of business. Put yourself in their position for a minute, and just imagine if we were to go out of business. What would you do on a Saturday afternoon? It would never be the same going to support another team. If they do, It'll be a sad day - Not just for Saints fans, but for football too. Edit: Can't see their top players wanting to stick around, especially considering the situation the club finds themselves in. Selfish as it may seem, they have their own careers to think about.
Tilley Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 They won't go out of business, fortunately. As Bert said, I don't like them, but I don't want to see a club like that go out of business.

I'd go a step further and say I don't want to see any club going out of business - well, maybe MK Dons but that's a different kettle of fish altogether. As much as I dislike/hate certain teams, it'd be an absolute tragedy to see a real football team go out of business. I said the same on here a while back when people were talking about a club (Leeds, I think) going into administration and potentially out of business being a good thing. My delight at seeing Southampton relegated will be nothing compared to the sympathy and sadness I will feel for their fans should their team fold. No real football fan or football team deserves that happening.

Guest Mee-9 Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Too right, No real football fan deserves to see their team fold. It would be heartbreaking.
