Wycombe Fox Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ton/8014811.stm Southampton will be relegated from the Championship after being docked 10 points by the Football League. The penalty comes after the club's parent company went into administration in recent weeks. Southampton are currently four points off safety with two games to go and will be deducted 10 points if they beat the drop. If they do not avoid finishing in the bottom three then the points penalty will take effect next season.
Bert Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Thank fook we aint gotta go there next season! Now lets sign Andrew Surman!
Corky Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 If Norwich or Forest go down, there will be some big clubs in League 1 next season.
Wycombe Fox Posted 23 April 2009 Author Posted 23 April 2009 Thank fook we aint gotta go there next season! Nearest I'd get to a 'home' game...unless Portsmouth get relegated!
Des. Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Southampton will be playing League One football next season after being deducted 10 points for breaching Football League insolvency regulations. The decision means that the 23rd-placed Saints are effectively relegated from the Championship. Southampton's parent company Southampton Leisure Holdings called in the administrators at the beginning of April, but the club were confident they would avoid punishment. However, an inquiry has found the St Mary's outfit responsible and the points deduction will take effect either in the current season, if Southampton avoid relegation, or next term, if the club do not beat the drop. Alexikokopops Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Starting next season on -10, oh dear. If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get the points taken of this season. If they finish inside the bottom three they'll get them taken off next season
Stevosevic Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get the points taken of this season. If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get them taken off next season Not likely they will finish outside the bottom 3 though is it? The leader of the Saints Supports Club was on SSN earlier, he called letting Nigel Pearson go as "footballing lunacy".
Ozwin Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 I find it funny how we sort of started the points deduction thing off. It satisfies me greatly.
Stevosevic Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 a No because if they 'stay up' the points will be deducted this season.
Babylon Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 No because if they 'stay up' the points will be deducted this season. I had already edited it... after I got my head around it.

Corky Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 I find it funny how we sort of started the points deduction thing off. It satisfies me greatly. We actually voted against points deductions when Colin Warnock moaned. We were the only one. Of course, it was our fault it came in (let's completely ignore the clubs who went into administration before us, and Ipswich who did exactly the same thing )
Darkzzz_ Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Amazing how many ex prem club have been to/going to the depths of league one. Bad times for those concerned. If Leeds stay down there league one will be a very tough league next season. I hope they stay down.
Alf Bentley Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 So they're down anyway but are playing their last 2 games for the club not to start with a 10-point deduction in League 1 next year...what an incentive!
C-man Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get the points taken of this season. If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get them taken off next season I would say that's a huge incentive to play well for the last couple of games. But how many of their players are still going to be there next season? They are massively fucked.
Wycombe Fox Posted 23 April 2009 Author Posted 23 April 2009 Portsmouth fans will be singning and dancing in the streets of Ryde tonight! I think I'll stay in - it'll all kick-off I suppose.
Benji Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 YESSSSSSSSS - rot...in...hell This joy is purely personal, not because they leap-frogged us last season
Alexikokopops Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get the points taken of this season. If they finish outside the bottom three they'll get them taken off next season Not likely they will finish outside the bottom 3 though is it? The leader of the Saints Supports Club was on SSN earlier, he called letting Nigel Pearson go as "footballing lunacy". They're 4 points adrift with two games to go, there's a chance! From a selfish point of view it means that I can cheer on Southampton with my mates (who support them and comforted me last year) but I don't have to worry about going to the hell hole that is St Mary's again. If only there was the whole "financial dire straits" thing too. Whoops Time for some editing...
Benji Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Just heard the weather report, "WARNING anyone in the Southampton area you will need a coat and scarf. It's minus 10!"
maddog Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 The only consolation for them is that they look to be going down anyway, and were lucky last season to stay up at the expense of us. Think it's harsh to dock them 10 points in League one though, could be tough for them to mount even a play off challenge starting on -10 there.
Matt Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 As much as its horrible and I wish to see no club go through this because we have experienced it barr the points deduction - The though of the club no even existing was a horrible enough though. However I have no sympathy whatsoever for teams that get points deductions, I say this every time a points deduction discussion comes around, I read somewhere every club in the Football League barr us voted for a points deduction, We were the only club that voted against, all i'm saying is what goes around comes around. The clubs who voted for a points deduction when we went into administration have in turn shit on themselves and all I can say is congratulations to them.
Fosse Boy Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 The Pompey fan I know is going mental with happiness on facebook... Glad they've gone down though. No interest in visiting their place next year whatsoever.
