Palace given one-point deduction

He wasn't allowed to play for them, so shouldn't have. I don't see the problem here, surely it says more than a poxy fine? They won't do it again.

How does it, the one point doesn't change their position and therefore renders no punishment whatsoever.

lol.

Bet you didn't even realise you did that :P

No I didn't. lol

That'll teach me not to read the article properly. I assumed it would be for next season, which it obviously isn't.

Therefore, it's pointless yeah.

I think it's more to do with sending out a message and a warning that they are prepared to give out such punishments.

isn't it just a standard procedure that when you field an ineligible player the team loses the points gained that they have featured in as it was only one game and a draw it has resulted in 1 point if it had been 2games and 2wins it would have been a 6point deduction.

that's the way I see it anyway

That's got to be one of the most farcical decisions for a long time, really what is the point.

Could be the difference between promotion/relegation/playoffs.

As proved with Newcastle being relegated by 1 point this season, Tranmere/Scunny chasing the playoffs in League One, and Preston making the playoffs in the Championship.

1 point would have kept us up in the Championship when we went down.

1 point is fooking massive, HUGE!!!!! And could be crucial come the end of the season.

As it would have been on all those occasions mentioned above.

And i've just fooking realised they have been deducted it from this season which makes no difference :giggle:

I assumed they would start on -1 next season lol

Either way, 1 point is still crucial, just not on this occasion :frusty::P:D

Read it again

It is a deduction on this season/last season whichever way you look at it - Won't mean anything on next season's points, therefore there is no point at all and serves no punishment.

Kinell man, the football authorities can't win can they.

A team isn't punished when everyone else wants them to be, they are lambasted.

A team is punished to the letter of the law, it is seen as pointless, and are lambasted.

They were punished, the point they gained was deducted. it made no difference, end of, everyone accept it and move on. It also sends not only a warning to Palace not to do it again, but to every other team, and perhaps a team that will go up or stay up by a point next season, a point which will realy matter to them.

Deduct it next season <_<

I shall write a letter to the FA complaining and telling them to fook off and calling them arseholes (exactly my rant in a shop today)

I did edit my post very quickly, obviously not quick enough :P

I didn't actually read the link before posting, just naturally assumed they would start on -1 next season, as deducting them 1 point this season makes no difference.

Yet the tards at the football league have done it anyway :giggle:

Even if they had won that game, Sheff Utd wouldn't have been promoted.

But I can't understand why the points deduction doesn't apply from the start of next season, as is happening with Southampton.

Not sure either. The Football League work in mysterious ways.

It's a bit hilarious though - cue Warnock come out and compare this to the Tevez case.

The game took place this season, affected this season, and so the point was deducted. Presumably they've known about this for a while but it's taken time to go through. It's pointless but they still need to do it because them's the rules and if they ignored it for being admittedly pointless it'd set a dangerous precedent.

Administration and ineligible players are entirely different circumstances.
