England v Andorra

Serbia are the new Russia, meaning they are an up 'n coming European team. They will probably qualify for the World Cup but honestly I can't see them lighting the tournament up.

The difference in class between England and Serbia only favours England.

Do any of our American posters know whether this game will be shown on American television. I doubt it will be, but it's worth a shot.

To the first paragraph: Serbia also have Romania and Austria in their group. Two more sides who made the European Championships last year. If we beat Faroe Islands tonight then we go 8 points clear.

Nemanja Vidic, along with Dejan Stankovic (Inter Milan captain) are two of the oldest players in a very young team. Next year, you will se Tosic and Ljajic at Man U and possibly Nenad Milijas at Villa or Wolves. The Serbs are becoming a force in international football with a lot of young talent. If Miralem Sulejmani (who holds the transfer record in Holland and currently plays at Ajax) and Zdravko Kuzmanovic (a quality player for Fiorentina and was heavily linked with Arsenal last year) can't even get into the team aswell as Tosic not even getting a sniff then it proves his argument. I could go all day giving you a list of world-class Serbian players. Remember European Cup '91? Red Star won with players like Sinisa Mihajlovic, Dejan Savicevic and Dragan Stojkovic who all went onto great things. So before you disrespect Serbia and Serbs because they're are not as 'MASSIVE', think.

Austria didn't make the finals. They were there by default as hosts, and Romania went home without a win to their name. 8 points clear in a weak group, reduced to 5 if and when the worst French side in 10 years win their game in hand.

And where exactly did I say Serbia were a poor side? I merely pointed out that the side isn't exactly brimming with world-class talent. Sure they have some good young players, but are they about to set the world on fire a la Rooney at Euro 2004? Would you trade Gerrard, Terry, Rooney and Lampard for some of Serbia's young guns? There is a difference between potential and actual achievement. The four players I've listed have won Champions League medals and Premiership titles, all of them instrumental in their team's successes. Therefore they are proven world-class players. If Tosic and Ljajic are as instrumental in Manchester United's future success as Rooney is in their present success they can be classed as the same. If Milijas is linked with and signs for a top European side rather than Wolves, he'll be on his way to proving himself as a world class player. I remember people saying similar things about a conveyor belt of talent coming from Portugal six or seven years ago. So far, only Ronaldo has realised that potential and few would call Portugal World Cup contenders.

ENGLAND TEAM TO FACE ANDORRA: Green, Johnson, A Cole, Lescott, Terry, Walcott, Lampard, Beckham, Gerrard, Crouch, Rooney. Subs: Robinson, Neville, Bridge, Young, Wright-Phillips, Defoe, C Cole.

Guessing that it will be Gerrard and Lampard in the middle....

Lanky fucking giraffe Crouch shouldn't be in the team just fuck off Crouch you're not wanted, I don't give a shit if you can score three against Jamaica to brighten up your goalscoring record, you're shite and you render Rooney useless.

Teddy Sheringham is a right pr*ck. He keeps saying Crouch needs to prove himself and that neither him or Rooney are natural goalscorers. Crouch has 13 goals in the last 13 international games, Sheringham managed a paltry 11 in 51 over his career. I really hope Crouch gets a hatful tonight, glad he's been picked instead of Heskey.

Crouch has the spaggy knack of needing to flail his arms and elbows everwhere if he so much as considers jogging at a gentle pace.

Words cannot express my disappointment at his selection.

Never mind Crouch when are we going to get an English anthem instead of that outdated subservient British dirge?

No Heskey?! Fuck sake. Might aswell turn off now, i'm changing my prediction to 2-0.

I know. I've actually lost alot of interest in this, now.

No doubt Crouch will score and be hailed as the messiah, imagine the headlines:

"CROUCH CONTINUES SCORING STREAK AGAINST COUNTRIES RANKED LOWER THAN THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS!"

*And Rooney hits the bar - hope he destroys these.

England fans face Wembley shut out for World Cup qualifier against Andorra

England face the threat of playing their World Cup qualifying match against Andorra at Wembley on Wednesday night behind closed doors due to the impact of a 48 hour Tube strike.

The extraordinary prospect has arisen after the Metropolitan Police and Brent Council raised fears over safety arising from the strike and the impact that it would have on moving vast numbers of people to and away from the stadium.

The Football Association will be holding a crisis meeting later this morning with the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London and Brent Council.

The police are concerned that emergency vehicles could struggle to get in and out of Wembley amid the gridlock that is anticipated around the stadium. "We are monitoring the situation and we will update fans when we have something to say," said an FA spokesman.

It is understood that the threat of playing the match behind closed doors is the most extreme option currently on the table amid hopes that the RMT can still be persuaded to call off the strike. An announcement is expected later this afternoon.

The match itself will still take place but purely as a television spectacle, with Fabio Capello’s side going through the motions of what should be a perfunctory victory against the European minnows against banks of empty seats.

The limited capacity the local rail network can offer in the two hours before kick off is one of the primary safety risks and concerns identified by the authorities.

A crowd of around 75,000 can usually be expected for a home international and the lack of an effective underground service makes such numbers unmanageable.

The FA suspended ticket sales last week at 70,000 after it emerged that members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union intend to stage a 48-hour strike from 7pm today following a dispute over pay and jobs.

Thousands of members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will walk out from 7pm on Tuesday until 7pm on Thursday, bringing the network to a standstill.

Boris Johnson, the London mayor, and Transport for London have put in place a series of contingency plans aimed at helping commuters get to work, including extra buses, taxi-sharing and schemes to lead cyclists across the capital.

Should the strike be called off, which appears very unlikely, the normal transportation plans would take effect and the doors to the national stadium opened.

The news will come as a major disappointment not only to those fans with tickets for the match but for the England team who can effectively book a place at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa with an expected victory.

To do so in front of empty seats rather than their supporters, should the shut out take place, would be a damp squib on what should be a night of celebration

As if playing this behind doors was ever going to happen

This journo needs to wake up and smell the kudos
