Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 June 2009 Author Posted 11 June 2009 Robinho I'd forgotten about. I wouldn't have classed Torres as a genuine world superstar at the time he moved. There haven't been that many over the years. Perhaps Klinsmann, Bergkamp and Ballack.
Mark Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 The Premiership is on the decline. The media can hype it up all they want, I can remember 3 or 4 games last season that were genuinely entertaining, and most of those involved Liverpool when they had no choice but to go all out attack. From what I saw and I paid less attention last season that I normally would, the majority of matches teams spend most of the game content with cancelling each other out.
breadandcheese Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Shevchenko was one of the more recent ones. OK, he failed to live up to his billing and was awful, but he was a genuine world superstar.
Tommy G Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Theres been loads! Ballack, Shevchenko, Robinho, Torres, Arshavin, Deco?
Sods Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 My first thought was Ballack, who has a had a nightmare really. Robinho i forgot about, Arshavin can you really call him a world class superstar, yet. Deco possily but couldn't hack it.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 June 2009 Author Posted 11 June 2009 Theres been loads! Ballack, Shevchenko, Robinho, Torres, Arshavin, Deco?   Any to add yourself?
Finnegan Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Schevshenko, Deco and Ballack were over the hill when they arrived - discount them. Robinho actually only proves Fez' point, actually, he wasn't exactly a leading light at Real but we consider him to be on a par with signing Messi or Ronaldinho. I think Torres was a more exciting signing, to be fair though maybe the biggest shout is Arshavin? Even then.

Tommy G Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Henry & Beckham were both stars before they went to Spain
Finnegan Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Beckhham was born here, he didn't sign from abroad, and nobody had heard of Thierry Henry - the young winger - before Wenger.
Shrenchel Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 More fool Spanish and Italian clubs really. they go for the headline grabbing big buys and it's England that still ends up with 3 teams in the semi-final of the Champions League every season.
lildave3 Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 They don't arrive as superstars, they just leave as them.

Manwell Pablo Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Henry & Beckham were both stars before they went to Spain They weren't when they moved though were they. Seeing as Beckham never actually moved, that wouldn't be possible.

Champions League might be worth a lot of money but it's nothing if you don't have a strong and interesting domestic season week-in, week-out. I appreciate it's down to personal taste but I've long found La Liga more exciting and this will only further contribute to that. Sure there's English dominance right now but these things come in trends and throughout that La Liga has remained pretty strong.
Finnegan Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 I was adapting the thread Batman No - you were severely missing the point that Fez was making. If you want to get a chubby on over me in every thread then by all means go for it. But you're punching above your weight if you're after a battle of IQ, you're only going to keep making yourself look silly.

The oppoprtunities are endless, you dont have to live the life of FT 24/7, there is help out there...
