Corky Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Just happy it was Katich that got our runs Hughes looks a decent player.
Sods Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Swann hasn't done much either and he's in form, Obviously credit to the Australian batsmen is due also.Christ I'm doing some editing. Your right and its not on, however you can't go into many tests matches without a recognised spinner. Yes before somebody says it other teams have done it before. You cannot drop Swann as you say he is on form as hes taken the most wickets this year, the guy won't ever play better. Monty and Swann have a very big day tomorro. Im looking forward to it.
Ultra Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Just happy it was Katich that got our runs So was I. Plenty of points for my Fantasy Ashes team..

Monty and Swann have a very big day tomorro. Im looking forward to it. They haven't done well today but surely he has to bowl them for longer than 4/5 over bursts, massive day tomorrow. I'd rotate the spinners at one end and rotate the seamers at the other after the new ball has gone, he might not have any choice if Broad is injured. Katich has been excellent without doing anything special.
Ultra Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Katich has been the rock of the Aussie side - their equivalent of Chanderpaul, though with far better team-mates. We desparately need to get him and Ponting out early this morning.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Hughes looks a decent player. Yeah a short but effective apprentiship in First Class cricket with just a mountain of runs.........did well with 2 centuries in South Africa and imo future captain (fingers cross after Ponting as i don't think Clarke would make a great captain)

Got Slated and dropped from the side a couple of years ago as a boring player who didn't fit the mould....with little runs. Since he got a recall from Jaques cos of his injury, which wasn't meet with well including myself who thought Katich was a good first class player (averaged close to 100 but don't quote me the season after he got dropped) but a player who couldn't make the step up. But Gee i was wrong he has been our most consitent player in the last 18 months which is a testimant to him. He must of spoken to Justin Langer about what to do when you get dropped and how do i get back in the side "Turn yourself in to an oppener and make plenty of runs"
martyn Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I'd be disgusted if Harmison got picked ahead of Onions. Aside from an excellent time around 2004, Harmison has been extremely average/poor. Somebody posted a nice little summary on a different forum i read. it pretty much sums it up perfectly: Goes back to Durham. Starts ok in the County Championship. England win Test Series vs West Indies unconvincingly. At least one member of the Sky commentary team in the 2nd Test will bemoan the lack of Harmison. Starts finding his rhythm bowling for Durham. England lose 1st Ashes Test, with Harmison simultaneously taking near career best figures. Harmison bowls consistently at 90+mph in a televised County 1 dayer. His actual bowling performance will be irrelevant. The phrase "Harmison needs to be bowling plenty of overs to find his rhythm" will be heard, probably from Nasser Hussain. England lose 2nd Ashes Test, with one member of the pace attack bowling at c. 80mph, taking match figures of 1-150. Harmison is recalled for the 3rd Test. Bowls an excellent first spell, taking 2 key wickets. Rest of his match performance is average. Proclamations of Harmison being "back to his best." Does little with the ball in the remaining 2 Tests, save for 2 glorious fast yorkers. Bowls suprisingly well in the ODI series, largely because the Aussies are knackered from their international schedule, and still drunk from the post Ashes victory party. Sky commentary team remind us that this is why Harmison is so vital to the team. Starts well, and fades in the Champions Trophy. Has dreadful start in first tour game in South Africa. Goes wicketless, leaks runs at 3-4 an over. Continues dreadful form into first 2 Tests. Harmison's place in England squad is again questioned. Dropped for final test, amid rumours of the selectors losing patience.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 What i'm surprised at is no Sidebottam....as much as i only think he is a grade cricketer some how playing top grade criket. Because if the Selectors had done there home work they would realise that Hughes, Hussey and even Katich struggle against left arm seamer.
James. Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I have Katich and Ponting in my Fantasy Ashes team. Little consolation though, those boys need to removed asap or this test will get away from us. Didn't something similar happen in the 1st test in 2005? Australia made a shitload with their first couple of wickets but then collapsed... let's hope history repeats.

That was in the 5th Test, when we ended up with a first innings lead, when Australia were 250-odd for 1 and collapsed. As you say, hope it happens again.

We got a raw deal with the conditions yesterday.

Fox You Forest Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 . All we need is for the ball to actually swing today
Milky Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Monty! We're getting some swing and movement off the pitch unlike yesterday, and the wickets are coming. This is where the slaters lack perspective and knowledge.
Fox You Forest Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 How many more top edges does he want to see before he puts a fielder in there.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 I've seen better spinners than swann in district 2nds of our local grade.......but chinn up swann it does go down to 9th grade

Edmund Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 This is the reason why I only have three Englishmen in my fantasy team.
James. Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Back to hoping it rains then... Or do I lack perspective and knowledge?
Edmund Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Back to hoping it rains then... Or do I lack perspective and knowledge? Im sure rain has always played a part in our test campaigns.
Milky Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Back to hoping it rains then... Or do I lack perspective and knowledge? I didn't have you down as a slater. I'm talking of those who don't realise the conditions. If the ball does fook all, there isn't too much more you can do but hope the batsmen get themselves out, and the Aussies have stuck in. A few of the England guys gave it away in the 60's/70's. Definately hope for rain now anyway. Makes our life easier.
