davieG Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Nigel Pearson admitted that Leicester City still have a lot of things to work on after last night's goalless draw in a friendly at Mansfield. The City boss said their Blue Square Premier hosts were looking for a scalp and it was just the test his players needed. Pearson added: "I'm not going to gloss over anything and I know there are areas we need to work on. We're in a situation where we are playing against teams who want to claim a scalp and I like that." Next up for City is a trip to League Two Shrewsbury on Saturday and Pearson is expecting more of the same. He said: "I want to win games, all of them really, but the emphasis is on being ready for the start of the season." Pearson welcomed back Bulgarian international Alek-sandar Tunchev after a six-month lay-off and handed starts to Richie Wellens and Dany N'Guessan. Pearson said: "It's good to have Tunch back. The diagnosis was done quickly. He has had excellent medical support and he's a very determined character." However, Pearson admitted he was frustrated by the continued absence of star striker Matty Fryatt, ruled out last night with a leg infection. Pearson said: "Matty's got a nasty infection and he is on second course of antibiotics. "He did train in Slovenia but it's frustrating that he's not been able to take part in matches so far." With Fryatt out, N'Guessan partnered Steve Howard in the City attack. "I thought Dany did well up-front and then later on when he went out wide," said Pearson. New boy Wellens picked up a knock but reported afterwards that he was okay. City would not comment on speculation about a possible move to Queen's Park Rangers for striker DJ Campbell. City have been heavily linked in the last 24 hours with striker Leroy Lita, who was not offered a new contract by Reading. The club have confirmed that Billy Kee will join League Two Accrington Stanley in a six-month loan move, which will start on August 1.
Jon the Hat Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Good words as usual from Nige. The man makes sense. Never sounds too confident, but rarely says a word negative about any of his players. Can't stand managers who do public criticism.
Hitesh Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Honest assessment from and honest guy. I just wish he would sign a striker soon!
CosbehFox Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 A bad pre-season could be the making of us. Pinpoint the areas we need to improve for January and kill some unwarrant expectation.

You've got remember they are down to one edition a day, published in the morning. The story was confirmed yesterday after the print deadline, so ended up into today's edition. Bollocks! Just re-read it. What a noob I am.

Even the August 1st is now wrong.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 IMO, Nigel is the only city manager not to have brought a player to the club that didn't do a good job, and that for me is great sign of a manager, and for that reason alone, ive not critism of Nigel whatsoever.

Dickov Though he was probably more a Mandaric signing...
Fox92 Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 We now know that he understands we need to strengthen some key areas, ecspecially the strike force. Also, is Logan going to be back up to Weale or is there any rumour/news about Stockdale coming back seeing as David Martin is only allowed to go elsewhere?
Tilley Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Please, for the love of fucking god, sign a couple of bloody strikers.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Dickov Though he was probably more a Mandaric signing... Dickov was brought in to be the sub 4th striker, 4th in line strikers do what he's done.
ob1kanobe0 Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Please, for the love of fucking god, sign a couple of bloody strikers. I'd prefer one with proper quality, because howard and fryatt are alright 2nd choice/sub. Nigel, CHED EVANS, and be quick!!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 We need two quality strikers. One serious injury to a front man, in the season, and we will be on queer street if we don't! I trust Nigel to do it.

Can we afford 2 quality strikers? We couldn't/wouldn't afford Cox. I say we ease the pain of striker worry and get someone we're mega confident in, that'll also breed confidence in the others.

Daggers Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Please, for the love of fucking god, sign a couple of bloody strikers. Take these words, dip them in liquid TNT, place them with due deference onto a T-shirt and then sell it to me.

I think that NP's hands are tied a little until we get DJ out the club, i think then we will see one or two come in then. I think we need DJ, Jimbo, Porter and maybe a couple of others off the wage bill then get 3 quality players in, one midfielder and two strikers!! I suppose thats wishfull thinking though!! We will See!!!
DB11 Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 The City boss said their Blue Square Premier hosts were looking for a scalp and it was just the test his players needed. But that is what it was like throught last season.
Raj Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Pearson-"If we dont Buy quality, hungry, players,we're fcuked!!!"
