JoeyB Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Let him go if he wants to go, should get a decent sum for him, which can be put to better use else where.
Flynny Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 I understand the bitterness but I can't say I share it, mostly because I'm not too arsed if he leaves. Berner and Powell are probably actually better, we'll have some cash to bring in a forward if NP has one identified should more money be available, (which I'd bet he has) and Mattock gets the chance to develop his career the way he wants. Whatever, really. As long as we get good money out of them I'm happy.
Guest Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 If he's been desperate to go for two years then that probably explains why he was so shite last season. Sounds like a bit of a **** of a thing to do in all honesty, I thought he was a boyhood fan? The only loyalty that you can count on in football is from the fans, and even that is questionable. Playing football is just a job to these guys, it doesn't matter who they support any more, and with the amount of pandering they get from fans, agents, coaching staff and their own family, it's not surprising that many start to believe their own hype.
bigneville Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Bit gutting to lose him to another Championship team though, whatever you think he's going to improve and become a better player elsewhere now. Hopefully we have a good % sell on.Now so long as use the money to sort out up front... I agree. Did think be would move up to the Premiership. But if his heart isn't here and we can buy a quality striker with the cash. Then I'm happy, I'm sure Pearson will spend wisely and get a youngster in on loan for cover at left back. Still hoping the fee is up and above 2million.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Best bit of transfer news all season!!! How much we getting??? Get Mcgivern or another LB on loan from the prem and we could have a tidy sum to improve other areas. The money from him could be the catalyst we need to build that team to finally have a chance of promotion!!!
marknotts Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 I thought there were rumours that Forest were interested in him.
Craig Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 "I've been dreaming of this all my life" - Joe Mattock at Southend after winning League One, fickle twat.
Hitesh Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Not happy that he is leaving to be honest but not surprised either. Wish him all the best and hope we can get some good money for him, now and in the future!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Why go and play for those part-timers? What amount of success have they had in the last 20 years? How many of their players have gone on to become anything? The last I can think of is Robson and that is back to the boy Linekars era. I really wouldn't be able to understand him moving to a club like WBA. At best its a slight step forward due to their squad and finances. Where's his dream of helping to take his hometown team to the Premiership? Having said that he's not gone has he - but if.... IF... IF I say!
JoeyB Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 if he did hand in a transfer request last season, how come he didn't go to the likes of West Ham & Everton that someone said were in for him! IIRC

Legend_in_blue Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 You'd have thought Di Matteo would have gone in for Lewington instead. He's a better player. Won't be too sorry to see him go, Powell is better. Even if he is some 20 years older. If he does go though, it takes MM spending this summer to a negative sum surely? WBA are yet another tin pot club. It appears everyone wants instant success. To do this they go to the newly relegated club with better finances and a better squad. Possibly. These players never end up being successful though - they suffer the yo-yo effect year in year out with each successive promotion and relegation until they are forgotten. Pointless move imo. Although the money would be nice - so long as it's spent - which it probably won't be.

Leicesterboi Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Whilst I wish him good luck, I'm not overly fussed by this! O'Neill looks like a better full back from what I've seen so him & Billy Kee can be our new young progidy's!! Mattock wouldn't have looked out of place in the Gold of Loughborough Dynamo when we played them in pre season!
Edmund Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Someone ring Man City and let them know he's available. The only loyalty that you can count on in football is from the fans, and even that is questionable.Playing football is just a job to these guys, it doesn't matter who they support any more, and with the amount of pandering they get from fans, agents, coaching staff and their own family, it's not surprising that many start to believe their own hype. Thats why no matter what anyone says is the reason why I have a lot of respect for Shearer, Le Tissier etc
Pegosteve Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 No loyalty, grab the money and let him go he's not wanted or needed if this is his attitude, sure he will go on to great success if he joins those high flying, go getting, potential champions league team the mighty Baggies. A***hole!
Tilley Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 I'm going to say something now that pissed me off no end in pre-season when others were saying but what the hell....... Use the £2 million & go get Beckford.
Babylon Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 It will be decided by tribunal I think... He's under contract so tribunals aren't needed.
flanimal Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 I think he's massively overrated, so if they want to offer money, let them. He can be replaced fairly easily, and any money from him could buy a striker! Good business!

Babylon Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Probably about the least bothered i've ever been about a transfer request.
DanTheFox07 Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Don`t think well miss this guy that much, plus if were in for mcgivern from city then we pretty much covered and can use money towards a striker.
leicesterseddon Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Baggies launch Mattock bidhttp://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_5476399,00.html - sounds quite definate but can't see why he would go there instead of West Ham, Everton, Villa etc. West Bromwich Albion have made a bid for England Under-21 star Joe Mattock, skysports.com understands. The Baggies are looking to bolster their options at left-back following the departure of Paul Robinson to Bolton. Now Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has made his move and has opened talks with Leicester about Mattock. Mattock has come through the ranks at the Walkers Stadium and, despite only being 19 years old, he has made over 70 first-team appearances. Mattock played a major part in Leicester's League One title-winning campaign last term, but now the Baggies are confident they can seal a deal for the youngster. No he didn't - if anything, he deputised to Berner and accomplished very little last season apart from getting skinned by Mark Yeates... And whoever mentioned the possiblity of a tribunal is wrong - he's under a Leicester contract for God's sake!
