miles2lcfc Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Nicky Adams - like a new signing. This lad seems to have come on a hell of a lot looking at his pre-season game at Shrews, tonight and Swansea. Postive attacking play with lots of intelligent movement and passing. I wonder whether Nige will think of putting him on the right with Lloyd on the left at some point.
Bryn Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Adams looked at the heart of everything from those highlights.
Fox You Forest Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Great finish from Fryatt. Nick Halling doing some commentary for the BBC.
maddog Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Good win, lets go to Ipswich and do it again Any mods about reopen the optimeter
Guest Bilo Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Great finish from Fryatt and a cheeky back heel from Dany. Also, our fans were in bloody good voice.

fox123 Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 me and tadman were on there as was dave and co! Couldn't miss you
JoeyB Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 2,197 was the attendance tonight. Must have been about 1300 city fans
leftsideoverhere Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Adams did look good, but then he looked sharp in the few mintes he played at the end of the Crewe game so maybe its just a case of him picking up where he left off. Excellent news though that he's making good on his promise. O'Neill looked at home in the game, although obviously it wasn't as stern a test as a championship side would be. Chris Powell was a hero, repeatedly beating his man. And Hobbs and Morrison were comfortable in central defence. Weale had very little to do. Fryatt's goal clearly cheered him up a lot, but for me the heart of tonight's performance was Steve Howard. He chased and chased all night long. It was hard to get an atmosphere going in the. First half, and in fact it felt like a pre-season game. Second half picked up both on and off the pitch. Greg figures he must have made it on to the TV as we were stood right behind the goal. I reckon we flinched when Fryatt lashed the second one home.u
Uncle Albert Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 That's a top drawer finish from Fryatt, from the highlights looked like he could of had another one. Hopefully that will give him the confidence to carry on trying to beat the final man and take his chances. Howard looked to have had a fair few chance's again hopefully he takes them. Wish Oakley's volley in the first half had gone in, that was a quality strike on the volley. Great technique.
Cobbo Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Hurrah nice evening. Dominated the game. N'Guessan could have played better, but then scored a back heel so I will let him off. Adams looked very good. Steve's mad running about at one point closing down from one side of the pitch to the other to finally crunch someone in the middle was one of the best moments of the game.
lildave3 Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Solid. Cheeky from N'Guessan, Steve nearly scored after a mazy dribble and that's basically all I have to say.
Thracian Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Even allowing for the opposition who battled manfully to prevent a blitz, City were impressive. There was never any question of them underestimating their task or neglecting the basics but their passing, moving and willingness to be patient was a credit to them. City passed the ball quickly and thoughtfully with rarely a move made where there was a lack of people moving and supporting off the ball. Even at 0-0 after 45 minutes there was never any doubt who would win and the whole performance offered great encouragement for the future. There were lots of good individual performances. Nicky Adams was electric. Hard to recognise from the inconsequencial individual seen previously. He was a constant torment to Macclesfield, asking more questions than Jeremy Paxman and what wonderful support he had from the veteran Powell, who was even seen taking players on and beating them which was some achievement at his age. Howard won everything and, on one occasion, chased further and perhaps even faster than I'd seen before. The defence was solid, organised, uncompromising and uncomplicated limiting the home side to mere morsels by way of chances although they so nearly scored with a wickedly deflected shot which bounced off the crossbar onto the line and was somehow cleared. There were no weak links that I could see but the damage was down to teamwork rather than individuals and I've rarely seen our teamwork so fluid and so unrelenting in terms of passing accuracy and consistency. Pearson and his colleagues would surely have taken much satisfaction in seeing so much work on the training ground being put in effective practice. It was all a bit flat at times in terms of atmosphere but, in football terms, City showed they are starting to look like a proper football team once more.
Granno Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Granno and Nussul make an appearence. Is this gonna be on iplayer or anything?
Granno Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Solid enough performance, clean sheet. Job done. Bring on Ipswich now.
Simi Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Solid performance as some have said. Main shout outs go to Christopher Powell and Wellens. Powell was so efficient with his work. Never putting a foot wrong. With it being a small ground as well, you could constantly hear him coaching the players, even telling Weale to control his area and use the full length of his box. Such an assest to us he is.# Wellens as well. Seemed very confident on the ball and certainly a grafter in the middle of the park, which is something that never goes amiss in football. Sterling performance.
Bert Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Everything what I think is pretty much covered in here. Had a good laugh tonight.
Asha Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Fantastic performance. Defence was really strong. Powell played a blinder, O'Neill looked composed. Link up play in midfield was pretty good, Adams man of the match for me. Glad Fryatt got his goal, well deserved and a great finish. Bit disappointed with the atmosphere though to be honest, was looking forward to being on the terracing but it never really delivered. Saying that, we probably had more fans than they did, I'm guessing about 1200, and that's brilliant for a league cup 1st round tie. Bring on Ipswich.
Sods Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Was a good night, looking shaaaaaaaaarp. Personal highlight was throwing the toilet roll on the pitch. Bring on next Tuesday for more fun and games.
nuttytimmy Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 Nice to have a manager who is encouraging competition in other positions other than right back! This
C-man Posted 13 August 2009 Posted 13 August 2009 Rarely have I seen City put away lower league opposition with such ease. We were terrific.
