Keith Weller's family on the pitch brought a tear to my eye. Well emotional.

we ground that one out today & at times made hard work of it the real test is coming up at newcastle when we will see how far we have come under NP but a good start & cov lost so a good day all round

Apart from Fryatt's goal, I thought the speech by Weller's widow was the highlight of the day. :thumbup:

We missed too many chances again and very nearly let Barnsley sneak a point.

Massive contradiction there. On one hand your saying Tunchev should be picked cos, well, "Tunch IS the Tunch", yet on the other had you're bemoaning the fact that "favourite" Dyer is being picked over Adams?

Confusing to say the least.

Brown should retain his place (alongside Hobbs) because they've been excellent and equally, yes, Adams should get the nod over Dyer. It's all about performances, not favourites.

Well as he's playing I don't think Adams has proved himself more effective than Dyer. Pearson seemed spot on yesterday. Dyer tends to fade but he is still a consistently dangerous player with a good scoring record for a winger. Adams goes at people but I'm not yet convinced about the end product though that may come.

As for our central defence it's record speaks for itself. We don't concede many and the opposition find it hard to create clear-cut chances. Weale has had very little to do overall. On top of that I feel sure that Tunchev won't hurt for easing himself back very gradually after such a long lay off and, presumably, getting the stronger for it.

In time we will need all the players in our smallish squad, which is as it should be. There's been so much waste in the past.

I thought for the first time the defence looked slightly dodgy yesterday.

We were giving Barnsley for too much time and space, luckily they're shit and couldn't put the ball in the net.

There were times the whole defence were allowing the ball to just roll past them all giving Barnsley great chances to score, if they had any real quality like Sheffield United then we would have easily lost the game.

I would play Tunchev in the cup game although NP is probably planning a mix up anyway. I can see Gradel, Powell, Tunchev all playing.

But despite the poor performance and dodgy defending at times, i couldn't give a fook because we won and have 8 points from 4 matches. Plus we could have won at Ipswich and Sheffield United so this is a dream start to the season.

If we can draw at Newcastle then beat Blackpool it will be even better. Or maybe even beat Newcastle :P

One thing about the Barnsley game that struck me was that even against a weaker opposition we didn't use the plethora of chances to make it 3-0 or even 4-0. Yes, we should've won by a higher margin. But then again, we got lucky that Hume didn't hit the net in the second half.

At this pace, it's looking good with a top-half finish comes the end of the season.

All a bit confusing, apparently he was flagged for off side although on the replay it looks like it was for Andy Gray, anyway I'm sure it was Neilson who nearly scored an own goal so that was a great save/lucky for us.

Gray was offside - So had Neilson put the ball in the net, it wouldn't have counted as he was preventing Gray, in an offside position, getting the ball.

Watch the highlights closely again and you can clearly see someone throw a programme down at Hume after his miss.

I strongly believe he missed on purpose..... People mention love fest for Hume........He didn't want to leave Leicester he loved playing for us he deserved the applause yesterday, and it was nice to see REGARDLESS of who he plays for.

Maybe we should be thanking him for missing on Purpose!!!!!????

I'm inclined to believe this. As the NoW said, it would be hard to resist such an offer which would represent a sizeable return on outlay on a player who has not had the greatest time as a Championship striker before this season.

That said, Fryatt has already grabbed three goals in the current campaign which suggests he is carrying on where in as rich a vein of form as last season.

He's also got himself into other goalscoring positions suggesting a man whose predatory instincts are well honed even if he's not always succeeded in delivering the "kill".

Will Fryatt have a clause in his contract regarding offers from a Premiership club? I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me. In which case, if he wants to go it might be impossible to stop him even though Pearson clearly rates him highly.

The question if he did leave is whether Pearson has already earmarked a bigger, faster, stronger replacement who will have as much instinct for goals as Fryatt? For surely, Pearson would not want to lose Fryatt if it means us having a significantly weakened team.

With Howard and Waghorn already out, Gallagher perhaps not the most natural marksman, DJ seemingly exiled and not another striker in sight, I'm finding it hard to see where 75 goals are coming from this season as it is - let alone without Fryatt.

Cos satisfactory as our points return is, we are already well off the pace in terms of goals difference and that will remain the case if our instinct continues to be one of going all cautious once we get ahead.

If that continues, our only hope of promotion will be via the play-offs, a point which illustrates what folly it would be to sell Fryatt if there's no worthy alternative available immediately. Even for pots of gold which the club might badly need.

But the point is, that even if he'd have scored, it wouldn't have counted anyway.

I have gone kind of deaf in one ear due to a build up of wax in there lol so thats why i probably didn't hear it.

When i lay on the good ear in bed i can hear fook all.

And background noice like at a football game drowns out people talking to me, il get it sorted this week hopefully at docs :P
