For me, Hobbs was better overall then Brown today. Class in the air AND on the ground.

Is it just me but I thought Browns distribution was alot better today. I thought he played some lovely balls down the flanks for the wingers, and I almost fell over when, in the box he cushion passed a ball back to I think N'Guessan.

I thought he had cut out some of the long aimless lofted balls he played at the end of last season.

What do other people think. :dunno:

I agree. I am wondering if and when the Tunch will ever get back in the side!

We played some great football at times today, again. Every game has it's plus points and it's minuses, but I don't want to think about the downside at the moment. I am enjoying the results so far.

kop couldnt even get "were the left/right side" going today!

Cos it's a utter shit chant and was horrified to see two old schoolmates starting it up today.

We were poor and only played for 15 minutes. We played in spells last season and knocked it round, it's continued. They didn't have a player of real quality and missed two sitters. The goal was all about Wellens drive and pass. Also think Gallacher looks a bit too clever for some of our players.

Thought this too, some of the balls were playing were bordering on sublime :P

I will start this with a little rant. I have sat in the Kop for the last 3 years and have moved into L1 for this season and I still don't understand why I didn't move before. I used to defend the Kop and I used to be one of few who sung but L1 is the future and I reiterate that anybody who goes to football games for the atmosphere then make the move. It was my first game in L1 so please excuse me if I've misunderstood a bit :D The handball piss-taking was hilariously. Barnsley fans were useless and the 'goal charge' is fooking quality.

Well yeah........Pretty sure you were among those criticising and throwing the "pathetic rebel standing chav" comments last season

It wasn't a great performance, but a win is a win and one which we deserved. Barnsley made it difficult by packing the midfield which meant Wellens and Oakley found it hard to get on the ball, in the first half especially.

Moore and Foster are obviously going to win most the aerial battles, so we had to aim all our kicks to N'Guessan which came a bit predictable. we managed to find a bit more space in second which allowed Wellens to pick out Fryatt for the goal.

A better team could have beaten us today though, so I'm not getting too excited, Barnsley had a couple of half chances where they could have punished us.

Thats a whole year unbeaten at The Walkers I believe? A great achievement.

Brown though, despite having a fantastic game I would bring Tunchev in instead. Yes, Brown has played well and has become a bit of a cult hero with his crunching tackles but his distribution is simply not good enough and the Tunch IS the Tunch.

I was shocked that Nigel Pearson's favourite Dyer was picked ahead of Nicky Adams!

Massive contradiction there. On one hand your saying Tunchev should be picked cos, well, "Tunch IS the Tunch", yet on the other had you're bemoaning the fact that "favourite" Dyer is being picked over Adams?

Confusing to say the least.

Brown should retain his place (alongside Hobbs) because they've been excellent and equally, yes, Adams should get the nod over Dyer. It's all about performances, not favourites.

I agree with your assessment.

Neither Fryatt nor Gallagher are hardly renowned for their aerial abilities, so we only had Dany who our kicks could be aimed at. I thought overall we did OK, not the best of performances but 2 years ago we would have drawn or lost games like these, so we have come a long way.

First half we were sloppy ish, but second half we came out a lot stronger and we should have put the game to bed, really.

New lad Gallagher was decent I thought - he was pretty much as that Blackburn fan described to us yesterday. Lacks pace, but he's got two good feet and good vision as well. He can pick a pass quite well. I think he'll be a good addition to our squad.

Last 25 we lacked a "sitting" midfield player until King came on. Lost count of the number of times they broke 4 on 4 or 3 on 3.

Absolutely. I think we let Barnsley back into the game by commiting both Oakley and Wellens forward, or over complicating simple passes, and letting them break at us, rather than us sitting back and playing cautiously.

Before the game I would have taken any sort of win without Howard. We definitely miss him more at home than away, so to pick up 3 points without playing particularly well is terrific.

Good teams beat bad teams even when they play badly. We're a good team.

We were ok today. Very good at times but a bit sloppy too and gave away possession needlessly in dangerous areas. I was disappointed with Fryatt's miss in the first half - he needs to be taking chances like that. He made up for it though with a great finish for the goal.

Barnsley were better than I thought they would be and had a bit of a go - they were crap in the final third though.

Happy with the result and reasonably happy with the performance but we can do better.
