eaststandtom Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 i remember an idiot sitting next to me at the wembley 99 final against spurs who spent 90 mins calling ginola a paedophile. this was incredibly tiresome and actually effected the whole match for me. it wasnt high jinx or 'the lads' having a laugh or banter it was a twat ruining the experience of watching the match for everyone around him without any thought. i imagine that this was how this lady felt like. there is banter and there is idiocy. just because you go to football doesnt mean you have to behave like a moron

Leicfox Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Tbf to Bedsfox i got to Preston really early and walked round to the away ticket office pasted the turnstile to the home end of the Bill Shankly Kop. There was 5 young lads (No parents in sight) sitting there on some steps no more than about 11/12yrs and the language that was coming out of their mouths was disgraceful. Now im no prude and throw out the odd swear word, but it makes you wonder what their parents are like and what sort of role-models they are.
RowlattsFox Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 I always find that these sort of chants seem worse when you're part of a small crowd, in a bigger crowd and good atmosphere you seem to turn a blind eye to them and they don't seem so bad. Well it does in my case anyway. I've heard our fans singing these songs plenty of times, not continuously all through the game though. One game that instantly springs to mind was Luton away few seasons ago when a certain lady sitting in the boxes was getting abused for a good portion of the game. I can imagine it being really uncomfortable for the person its aimed at, especially if it goes on for a long period.
Budweiser Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Sexually harrasing a defenseless woman isn't banter, it's a bullying of the worst kind. I'd be interested to see how those of you who agree with this behaviour, would react if it was leveled at your mother, friend, sister or daughter. It's at a football match, not in the street. This sort of thing happens for fook sake
Salieri Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 It's at a football match, not in the street. This sort of thing happens for fook sake Yes, it does. Doesn't make it right though, does it?
LCFC-ARAB Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 i got 'who's the gayboy in the pink' sung at me at Cardiff away a few seasons ago dont think blowing kisses at them and simulating bum sex with my mate helped much though...... i just took it as a joke, infact after the game me an my mates and the Cardiff fans were clapping each other was the night game in 05/06 in case anyone remembers... not that is was very memorable
Smudge Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 It's at a football match, not in the street. This sort of thing happens for fook sake ------------------ edit: On second thoughts, insulting people isn't my bag.
Budweiser Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 We don't have to cry about this situation do we? It's not right/fair but i've said this before, if you cannot stand hearing chants like these then don't go. You aren't going to stop it and it's not the worst thing in football. Pointless thread now.
Shrenchel Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Shit thread really. I love it how it's always the 'football is for everybody' types that complain about young lads doing what young lads have been doing at football for many many decades. It's not for everybody if you turn it into a sit-down, clap clap clap, leicester leicester leicester, blooo army borefest is it?!

It's not for everybody if you turn it into a sit-down, clap clap clap, leicester leicester leicester, blooo army borefest is it?! In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't that big of a problem - it's a minor thing. The only cringe worthy thing about it is when it's sung continuously non-stop - I suspect that's what happened last night in Preston. It's the same with homophobic chants. I'm not homophobic and I'm all for equal rights, but it is still my democratic right to ask Brighton fans whether their boyfriends know they are here.
eaststandtom Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 A guy seriously spent a whole Cup final at Wembley doing that? yes. my misery was complete when the ball rebounded off keller into the path of neilson who headed home. great day
iancognito Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 but it is still my democratic right to ask Brighton fans whether their boyfriends know they are here. Yep. Does your boyfriend know you're here? isn't homophobic at all, no more so than does your girlfriend/mother etc know you're here. If you stood there singing "We all hate gay scum" that's different but questioning someone's sexuality isn't. Incidentally, the best way to stop the yoof doing it is to humiliate them. "You must have come on a skateboard" "Does your mummy know you're here" "School in the morning, you're going school in the morning" "Ran from your teachers, we heard you ran from your teachers" It's not nice when one person gets all the flak but it's best just to accept it's something that happens and move on.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 i'm guessing though that the girl in question was standing near the back next to the preston fans... correct me if i'm wrong but she must have been expecting something not that a girl should expect that thing, but she went up in that area knowing that kind of thing happens at football and to be in plain sight of the home fans at deepdale you'd have to be literally the person nearest to the segregation, as its a flat stand and the preston fans wouldn't be able to see right across the away section
lou Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 I was in Spain when we played Preston so didnt see it first hand but do remember the girl at Hull and she instigated the "banter" by making "willy puller" gestures at the Leicester fans and was loving the attention she got back from them for the rest of the game.... she definately gave as good as she got and was no "lady" by any stretch of the imagination! I cant say the girl at Preston was doing the same but I dont think its funny either to be honest Im just saying Ive seen plenty of "ladies" at footy who use worse language and shout more explicit abuse than the lads do! There was a couple at Macclesfield stood not too far from us that made me blush a few times! Its not always a hoard of louts "bullying" a shrinking violet stood serenely watching the game is all Im saying. I know Lisa definately falls into the latter category though!
Dr The Singh Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 It's a well known fact that a high % of footy fans are morons!! There's a fine line between banter and abuse, and unfortunately the abuse is somewhat acceptable in football, although it isn't a major problem, it's not like you can't ignore it etc, it just shows how childish and pathetic fans can be!!!!!! If you don't like what you see or hear your well within your rights to complain and ask for a refund and never go again!!

Rich Fox Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 The Preston fans should have been given a good battering by the riot police and thrown out no excuses.
Guest Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 It's at a football match, not in the street. This sort of thing happens for fook sake Obviously not to you. I know Lisa definately falls into the latter category though!
