StanSP Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Job Centre website. What's worked for me in the past is going to a load of shops at Retail Parks or High Street and handing CVs in
Ozwin Posted 27 August 2009 Author Posted 27 August 2009 Yeah I have been doing that but I never hear anything, it's annoying. I reckon my best bet is Christmas work and hopefully get my foot in the door that way, not holding out on it though.

I reckon my best bet is Christmas work and hopefully get my foot in the door that way, not holding out on it though. Yeah I know how you mean though. But I went for an interview at Matalan this morning, and even though I'm off to uni, if I got the job he said he's happy to take me on temporarily for hours before I go and definitely for Xmas and other holidays
Ozwin Posted 27 August 2009 Author Posted 27 August 2009 I hate interviews. I wouldn't have thought interviews for high street jobs would be too challenging though, I mean anyone can do the stuff they want you to do right?

Blagged a bit today but as you say it's not that challenging
Webbo Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 I've had a drink and I'm not that fussy. If you can get to Syston in 10 mins and you're open minded there's a fiver in it for you.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Just get on direct.gov. Although tbf if you're that desperate for work you can't be snobby about it.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I used to work as a bin man during University holidays. Absolutely cracking job.
StanSP Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Getting some qualifications will help. How do you know he doesn't have any?

They'll get a load of jobs open up because of people leaving.
StanSP Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Hand in CV's from the middle of septemeber at supermarkets when everyone goes uni. They'll get a load of jobs open up because of people leaving. Why wait?? To get your foot in the door, as he wants to, I'd do it now.
Samilktray Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I thought getting a job was hard. Getting an apprenticeship is on a whole other level of hardness.
fox123 Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 www. totaljobs.com monster.co.uk worktrain.gov.uk jobs.nhs.uk thisisleicestershire.co.uk jobs.guardian.co.uk/?setHome=GB I think they're the best. Nothing wrong with sending a speculative e-mail as well, with a strong covering letter and your cv. Good luck.
samlcfc Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Why wait??To get your foot in the door, as he wants to, I'd do it now. I was just thinking because some places just say they'll hang on to your CV and it'll never see the light of day again
StanSP Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I was just thinking because some places just say they'll hang on to your CV and it'll never see the light of day again Maybe. But in some places you might get lucky. I handed my CV in to a few shops 7-10 days ago, and got an interview for yesterday . It does work . If you give it in now, it might just be with a few other CV's on the pile on the managers' desk. As opposed to loads when everyone at once applies in mid-sept for the vacancies.
Brainy Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 How do you know he doesn't have any? I was hardly having a go.
