Toby or not Toby Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Barnsley OS Doesn't particularly suprise me after the start they've made to the season.
davieG Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Barnsley OSDoesn't particularly suprise me after the start they've made to the season. Still stupid, they'll only be able to get a replacement who's failed just the same at another club.
Toby or not Toby Posted 29 August 2009 Author Posted 29 August 2009 Also the transfer window will be more than likely be shut, meaning he will have the same bunch of players.
DB11 Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 At least the new manager has already got his excuses, should he fail. Along the lines of, didn't have any time to bring in his own players.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Idiotic decision. Barnsley were only ever going to struggle this season and their poor start has come as no surprise to anyone. Davey though seemed to do enough to get them out of the relegation zone every season, once at our expense as well as took them to an FA Cup semi-final. With Davey they had a decent chance of avoiding League One this season, now they're likely to have to make do with a second rate manager who won't be able to assemble his own squad. They've just gone odds-on to be relegated in my opinion and what's worst of all is that it's completely unnecessary.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Never rated him, suprised he didnt go in the summer. He lived off that cup run IMO.
Father Ted Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Never rated him, suprised he didnt go in the summer. He lived off that cup run IMO. This. Although Barnsley also struggled to replace Brian Howard when he left.

If you look at the teams in the Championship I think you'd say that Barnsley, with all due respect mid-table is their maximum level just like mid-table Premier is probably our maximum level. So on that basis I'd say he's done a pretty admirable job.
Jay Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 been a dead man walking for a while didn't he have to try and justify his job in the summer to a new chairman, he was waiting for any opportunity to pull the trigger
Corky Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 He's done well to keep Barnsley up for a few years, but I think this year they'll go, whether he stayed or not.
Fox92 Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Don't like him or rate him as a manager and done nothing at Barsnley He has saved them for season after season but they've got to go one day and I think this is the season they will drop...
Budweiser Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 He's done well to keep Barnsley up for a few years, but I think this year they'll go, whether he stayed or not. I share this view. They looked a very poor side when they came here, especially Kozluk, bag of shite.
Edmund Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Although I can understand people saying its a silly decision, maybe a new manager could be bring a fresh atmosphere to Oakwell. Personally I think it is a tad harsh and to early in the season to get rid. Plenty of time for managers to turn things around.
Bluefoxtim Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Potentially good news for us. If he's interested in an instant return to management, maybe offer him the manager's job and ship out Pearson?

That post made me chuckle. Seriously, Barnsley are a small club who are going to be fighting relegation every season unless they somehow manage to appoint an unknown manager who turns out to be gold (a bit like Pearson for us!). Davey did well to keep them up all these years, but they still wanted him out. I don't think he could've done much more there to be honest.

Barnsley are indeed a small club, and when they find a manager capable of keeping them in the second tier they should keep hold of him. If they do go down, League One is a tough place to be these days and they may not have the talent, fanbase or money to bounce back as we did. Scunny did well to come back as they did, but they are the exception rather than the rule.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Who is Danny Wilson the manager of these days ?
Salieri Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Who is Danny Wilson the manager of these days ? Think he's at Swindon.
Jay Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 and you though it couldn't get worse for poor old Barnsley 1 point from 5 games, bottom of the league and then this story appears on a Monday Morning!!! Tony is top of Tykes’ listTONY ADAMS is being lined up as the next manager of Barnsley after Simon Davey was sacked. Former Portsmouth boss Adams, 42, is understood to have met board officials and indicated he wants to take over the Oakwell hot-seat. Davey was axed after Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Reading and, with the club bottom of the Championship, the board felt it was time to stop the rot. Ex-England and Arsenal captain Adams has been out of work since he left Pompey last season. But he has always insisted he will be back in football and will not underestimate the size of the task Barnsley represents. The Tykes board were hopeful Davey could turn the club around after guaranteeing their safety on the final day of last season. But with their only point so far coming from a draw at Sheffield United, Davey's three-year reign was brought to an abrupt end. oh dear putting your club in the hands of someone whos attempts at being a football manager have been nothing short of abysmal.
davieG Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Anyone they get now is likely to have a history of failure somewhere on their CV. Their best hope is to lure an up and coming manager from League 1 but I can't see too many being interested.
