A very serious advertisement

Warning: It's very graphic, and made my spine tingle.

Quite scary too. Apparently there's a 30minute film by the makers of this advert due to be shown in Autumn.

I know this isn't the main point, but it only cost £10,000 to make. Cheaper than most other brand-named adverts, but sends out a harrowing message.

Hearing the girls neck break is horrible, and seeing that baby with no life in its eyes.

Hell of an advert.

Havent watched it as feeling a bit squeamish today.... doesnt sound as amusing as a couple of people seemed to find it.

I'll pluck up courage to watch it at some point. If it saves a life or more than its definately a good thing.

Don't watch it if you're feeling at all uncomfortable.

Why are people laughing? Not watched it.

They weren't laughing at the advert itself.

At the end of the advert (on the original link only), it said 'THINK....(then quickly mentions) Never let a woman drive'.

As said above, seeing the baby lifeless sent shivers down my spine. And good acting by the girl telling her mum and dad to wake up.

I watched it, and I found it a little horrifying, the lifeless baby especially. And I know I'm not the most emotionally stable person around, but still.

Part of the advert should be aired though. I'm pretty sure that'll make a lot of people think twice about texting while driving, and so it would be worth it.

It seemed a little long for me but I guess it will be shown in it's entirety the first few times late night then shortened after as they tend to do as a reminder. It's fairly ghastly in places - the neck break sounds and especially the lifeless baby's - though I actually went back to see that bit again it was so beyond comprehension to show that in an advert - obviously a good modern doll but still that idea is chilling.

That they've made this for £10k shows how much money is wasted usually when it's at least as challenging as any other drink drive type advert (obviously text-drive this time).

If you don't watch it think the moment in the other advert where the son goes into the driver seat and crushes his mum to death -watch that after a couple of shandys and it's pretty gruesomly visceral - then drag it out to show the aftemath, include a dead baby and a small girl asking for her parents to wake up and you get the picture.

meh, sick and tired of this continual "shock and awe" advertising, It hasnt worked for drink driving, speeding..etc etc.

All it does is normalise crashes, death and injury.

Its time we re thought preventing this kind of thing, all governments continual answer of..another "scary" advert is just pretending to do something, much like the advertising industry, these adverts are selling something other than safety, they are selling the "Government is doing something" story...and in case you dont know..

Perception is Reality.

So what would you suggest?

Speed kills.... People still speed.

Don't drink and drive.... People still drink and drive.

Don't text while driving.... People will still do it.

I don't think these adverts work.

It's because people don't think that it's going to happen to them.

Nothing is ever gonna work outright is it?

I think the Government should be applauded for their safe driving campaigns. As far as I can see, year on year people's attitudes shift increasingly towards safer driving. It's much rarer that you see things like smoking, eating and drinking whilst driving. Most people you speak to these days do indeed pull over if they need to answer their phones. Drink driving is absolutely vilified in this country now, as it should be (Hi Thracian).

They're particularly effective on young people. As I've said before on here, I tend to find the dodgiest drivers are the ones who are older and set in their ways, and the young people who are just thick headed cunts who are unlikely to be reached by anything. But your average teen driver these days is a lot more conscientious then they are given credit for, in my opinion. It's more or less standard that these laws are obeyed.

I don't have a great knowledge of the actual figures, but is it not true that road accidents are down despite car usage increasing? Genuine question.

I find the whole car insurance thing quite silly.

I'm 19, and passed last September - still without a car. I've got the money, but can't justify spending 1.5k on insurance. Now, insurance levels are high for young drivers because they are supposedly the biggest risk.... but I ask you this, in 3 years, my insurance cost will drop like a stone and I'll get a car. I'll be in the position of having a car, yet not having driven for years. What's safer? Me driving my own car on the day I pass, or me driving my own car 5 years later with no time behind the wheel for such a long period of time?

It's flawed! Bit off topic I know, but it does annoy me.

I wish i had the answer. :(

It starts with personal responsibility... but beyond that i dont know.

edit...

However if the millions/billions that are being spent on advertising, were spent on getting to the cause of the problem that might help, all the ads are doing is addressing the result, not the cause.

To be fair this ad only cost £10,000 :)

But I know what you're saying.

£10,000 to produce.. the cost to run it will exceed that within a month. Which is where the idea falls down, governments the world over are filling the pockets of media barons etc by paying excessive prices to run these "nanny state" adverts, which evidence suggest, do nothing to stop people.

Actually, a simple idea would be to redirect the millions being spent on advertising...to improving the safety features built into cars, use the money saving to reduce the cost of new cars, thereby having more, safer cars on the road and less death and injury as a result.

oooh, that actually seems to be a moment of clarity? :o

im off to find me some porn to get my brain back in the right place.

Make it a little more real for them... stalk them, then when they pick up their phone to text, ram them off the road.

Textbook.
