Ultra Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 BBC Sport Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty looks likely to miss Wednesday's key World Cup qualifier against Slovakia at Windsor Park because of a knee injury.Lafferty sustained the injury during the second half of his country's 1-1 draw with Poland, in which he scored after 37 minutes of the first half. The forward will have a scan on Monday to assess the extent of the damage but is rated very doubtful for the match. Accrington Stanley [?] striker Billy Kee has been called into the squad. "The situation with Kyle is ongoing but we will know more after the scan," said NI manager Nigel Worthington. Lafferty scored the opening goal in the 37th minute of the World Cup qualifier in Chorzow but was forced to retire hurt during the second half, with Martin Paterson replacing him. It is suspected that the Rangers player may have suffered medial ligament damage. Meanwhile West Bromwich Albion winger Chris Brunt will join up with the squad in Belfast after missing the game in Poland because of a calf injury. Defender Chris Baird is also back in the panel after serving a one-match suspension but striker Andrew Little and Sunderland player George McCartney are still absent. Kee impressed while playing for the Northern Ireland Elite squad at the recent Milk Cup tournament and was part of the Under-21 panel which lost 2-0 to the Czech Republic in a European Championship qualifying game on Friday night. Obviously the links with Steve Beaglehole and Nigel Worthington will have helped Kee. But it says a lot about the limited resources Northern Ireland have to deal that, for one of the biggest games in their recent history, they may have to call upon someone deemed by his club not to be ready yet for Championship football.
dogadug Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Having seen him play numerous times over the past few years - I reckon its not long before he gets called up to the LCFC first team, as I'm sure many other's who have seen him play will think. Now I know he's currently out on loan at Accrington, but if he continues to impress there, I reckon he'll be in NP's plans next season. He's got a great goalscoring record, tons of pace, and a great eye for goal, scoring nearly 50 goals in the past 2 years although I know these were at lower levels, I reckon he has all the qualities to step up to Championship level by next year He's impressed so much recently, that he's even just been called up to the Northern Ireland senior side, which will give him some valuable experience. All I'm saying is that, lets hope he continues to develop, and does well at Accrington, because if he bangs in a load of goals there, he'll be in the first team next season I reckon, especially considering our trouble in scoring goals Anyone else have any thoughts on him, and how long you think it'll take for him to break into the first team?

He doesn't have a prayer here. Fryatt and Howard are massively favoured by NP and will almost always be in the side when fit. Dj, Yann, Waghorn, Chambers won't get many chances, if any, Gallagher will struggle to cement a 1st team place starting up front and may end up stuck on the left wing just to play him for the sake of it. So Kee has no chance here and should move somewhere else permenently.

Howard isn't exactly getting any younger (though he is still an intergral part of our team).
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 I think it will be a couple of years before we see Kee. Needs to do well like Gradel did at Bournemouth then he will probably be given a shot.
Sparky Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Billy Kee called in to senior Northern Ireland squad http://www.irishfa.com/the-ifa/news/5172/k...o-senior-squad/ Edit- Sorry just noticed this was mentioned in the 1st post
Ultra Posted 6 September 2009 Author Posted 6 September 2009 I see even the Irish FA describe him as an Accrington player..

So Kee has no chance here and should move somewhere else permenently. You make such a pertinent point there. I wonder how hard it has been for City to attract strikers these last three seasons due to the seeming permanance of the Fryatt/Howard combination. Kee had so many injury problems at Leicester it was hard to judge him as a potential first teamer. Most times when I saw him his control reflected the time he'd spent out and so did the timing of his shots. But when I didn't watch him he seemed to bag goals in abundance. It was clear all along that he was a dangerous player. And I'd love to see how he's progressed since his loan move. I've always likened him to Arthur Rowley in style - just a strong, bullish out-and-out striker But genuine first team material? I'd have to see more to be convinced.
Father Ted Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 I think the fact that after all of the drama that went on over the summer, he still signed a contract (albeit a 1-year contract) it shows that Leicester are prepared to give him a go and that we didn't want to lose him. I think he will get a chance.
MPH Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 a year is a long time in football indeed... Howard isnt getting any younger and i wonder if fryatt will get impatient if we dont go the places he wants us to go? ala Mattock. i dont think Fryatt will play a full season before getting injured either...
shen Posted 7 September 2009 Posted 7 September 2009 Hope he doesnt do a Healy and be mint for country shite for club Also known as a Bendtner
Uncle Albert Posted 7 September 2009 Posted 7 September 2009 Called into the senior squad at 18 can't be bad. I think he has a big future ahead of him, hopefully at Leicester.
carterfox90 Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 great news for the lad sounds like we have a player on our books with this lad be great if he gets a game for ireland even if only as a 10 minute sub
Tommy G Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 Called into the senior squad at 18 can't be bad. I think he has a big future ahead of him, hopefully at Leicester. But can't he even get in the Accrington team at the min though?
dandannieldanok Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 He's 3/1 to score at any time in the match, ridiculously short odds.
MPH Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 But can't he even get in the Accrington team at the min though? Thought he picked up a bit of an injury... Obviously over it now of course!
Leicesterboi Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 But can't he even get in the Accrington team at the min though? Accrington have just sold 'a club legend' Paul Mullin as they see Kee as ready to step up to the mark when he is fully fit. I have seen 3 of his games, 2 when he started and 1 sub appearance and he looks more than ready for League 2. This call up will only give him more confidence. Best of Luck to the Lad.
dogadug Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 I doubt he'll even get on the pitch in Northern Ireland's match, as Lafferty, the striker he was supposed to be replacing, has now been declared as fit to play.
