In reality though, if you call up some tosser for making racist comments in the middle of a football crowd, he's not gonna punch or stab you before hundreds of witnesses is he? Besides if you've got the attitude of "Oh, he looks a bit 'ard so I won't bother to challenge his retarded social outlook" we may as well just hand all power over to anyone who looks a tad menacing mightn't we?

You're reading rather a lot into what I thought was a fairly straightforward statement. Personally I find it odd that anyone would hate a religion. What I can understand is hating the way in which certain people interpret certain religions. Be that the stoning of adulterous wives or the hanging of homosexual men in the name of Islam, or many of the atrocities that have been committed in the name of Christianity.
