At the end of the day, if he can't even get in for Mansfield, then he's certainly not going to get in for us.

Mansfield's comment about wanting to retain him doesn't suggest he wouldn't get in at all. And we've all seen him perform perfectly well in the Championship. What Levi needs is some support and some games.

no but the fact e only made 2 sub appearances in a month there and wasn't even in the match squad for a couple of games does, he is clearly too much of an idiot to realise what he has, I work with someone that has very close ties to Levi and I'm always hearing stories of his "antics", doesn't sound like he's even acting like h e wants to work his way back into the squad, as DJ Campbell, someone who was as discarded as he is, has just done.

He may have some talent, although that is highly debatable, but he clearly isn't mentally strong enough to make it

could this be because he knows he's not likely to be able to establish himself at city and not even peter taylor would want to sign him (when taylor takes charge at tranmere tomorow morning or qpr on monday) so he feels it's not worth putting effort into doing so whereas DJ knows that by getting back into the team he can put himself in a postition to leave in january if he still isn't playing as much as he'd like to?

He looked mentally strong enough every season until his injury.

Ironically you say that while the law of the land you represent so often gives people a second chance and even more. Indeed didn't one of your esteeemed judges allow a guy who'd raped a minor to do community service recently - allowing him to go out and commit another dreadful offence? I wonder if he'll keep his job? Thought so!

Levi is still a young man. Yes he's got to learn, but he made a mistake or two and nothing so serious as to justify wrecking his career. Hell there's at least one person in football today who some would say deserved hanging for what he did. And others who have done far worse than anything I've heard about Levi.

And what is that all about? All I said was I had no sympathy for him. So there's need to put words into my mouth. I swear if I said black is black, you would tell us all it isn't, pulling out some dodgy report from somewhere.

What Levi needs to do is to take responsibility for his actions and earn his living. From the rumours that have been rife over the last few years he's got far too big for his boots and acts like he's made it. The fact is he has earned a shedload of money at Leicester City's expense and has hardly earned any of it.

He needs to sort his personal life out and work hard in training, like everyone else. Maybe then he'll get a chance to show his so-called skills (which I doubt anyway) to us or to another club. There's only so much help he can get - there comes a point when Leicester City will have to show him the door because (a) he's got too many off-field problems and (b) he doesn't work hard enough to warrant selection.

Thracian - surely you must realise that at 22 years old, he's old enough now to realise that you get out of life what you put in? He's not a 17 year old naive kid anymore who can get away with the odd misdemenour - he has to work his socks off to make a career out of his talent. It just doesn't look like he's that bothered.

I for one wouldn't give two hoots if he ended up on the football scrapheap.

Yeah, but what is it he actually did that got him into this situation? No-one ever says what it is. Ever.

I don't think it was a lack of ability that got Campbell discarded.

Porter is just simply shit. I can't even remember him playing well for us other than the Chelsea game, Carl Cort was amazing in that one too.

NP has been playing Gally on wing, and we have N'Guessan and Dyer. And Adams as back up. And even Gradel has made the bench a few times.

So Porter will be lucky to make the bench at all. If we were still in the Carling Cup he may have been given a go.

Why do we bother with these argument year after year, it always ends up the same way with said player drifting off to league two obscurity.

Precisely. I don't see what the fuss is about. Hundereds of players have their 10 minutes in the limelights then fall by the wayside. Jon Stevenson once played in the Premier League, but is now struggling to get into 1st team plans at Halesowen - he is 26.

Personally Thracian, I know you are trying to support Levi, but I actually think that you are having a detrimental effect on his career. it can't be easy for him to play football with a 50 year old's head up his arse all day long.

Beats me. But if people will start threads and responders make disparaging comments about a guy they have in some cases probably never met you should hardly be surprised if others choose to stand his corner.

Porter was a decent player with a promising future at one stage and to see what's become of him since his injury is quite shocking really. I think I know the reason, which, if correct, helps me to understand it, but that doesn't stop me being surprised.

And I'd still think that something could be done to reverse the downbound trend bearing in mind that there are far worse people still in the game.

these rumours are getting boring, especially since i don't know any, smoebody p.m me what he did!

I'd doubt that anyone will PM you because that is what they are, unsubstantiated rumours which would doubtless be libel if written on this site or slanderous if uttered publicly and yet shown to be untrue.

libel? surely someone can say what they've heard?! as if anyone outside of this thread, let alone forum/club would give a shit!

A lot of players have talent and potential - most don't realise it.

Porter is one of those, who for one reason or another, has not been able to fulfill the expectations surrounding him.

Let it go, Thrac. He's like a lot of young footballers: not good enough.

That bit doesn't surprise me.

I'm sure Levi's concerned about my career too, eh?

First of all, people from the club read this forum. Secondly, any comment about a person that is not true, and lowers people's opinions of them (to put it briefly) is libellous. Thirdly, the club and the player obviously don't want whatever has happened to be made public. That needs to be respected. I know Thracian thinks I don't believe in second chances, but not making whatever it happened public means that hopefully Levi can learn from his mistakes, and move on without being prejudiced. If I see anything on this forum that eludes to what happened, I'll be deleting it for that reason. And yes, I do know that people know, and I do know that professional football is a small world, and those in it probably know what has happened anyway, but I still stand by the above.

Levi was easily good enough at one time and how easily people forget it.

Indeed I would still love our side to consistently put together the one-touch passing moves of which King and Porter were so capable instead of continuing to hit so many high, hopeful, mostly inaccurate 50-50 balls. Cos we'll sure need to pass the ball properly and quickly if we ever get into the Premiership.

I cannot vouch for Porter's level of fitness and readiness for League football now, but his pre-season form when Pearson arrived suggested he'd recovered okay.

And even now I'd consider a fit and match-sharp Porter could well squeeze into any squad that includes the likes of Gallagher and N'Guessan - at least judging by what I've seen from those two so far.

Hopefully they will yet show what our investment has all been about and, even more hopefully, they will do so consistently.
