Legend_in_blue Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Weale - 7 - Commanded the area well as always. Morrison - 6.5 - Ran the line well but wayward crosses. Has pace over Neilson, but little else. The guy seriously needs support down the right. Hobbs - 7 - Never troubled until the final moments of the game. Brown - 7 - Solid performance from him. Berner - 6.5 - The usual. Oakley - 5 - Not effective. Lack of direction from the bench meant, for me, he clearly didn't know where to play or what to do. King - 7.5 - Effective in front of the back four with timely tackles and passes. Went largely unnoticed as he hardly wasted the ball. Would like to see him further up the pitch though. Wellens - 6 - Not great. Looked to play people in but the final ball lacked quality. Dyer - 7 - Our only dangerous option going forward with the ball. His pace caused trouble in the first half but his performance dropped, as did the rest, in the second. Howard - 6.5 - Did what he could with the service he received. Nothing really to feed off and ultimately, his game looked laboured and tiring. Not his fault imo, the service up to him was dire. Fryatt - 6 - Yet again proved he cannot take the more crafted finish. Had the chance to curl it or chip it in but failed to do either and the keeper smothered the ball. Subs- Waghorn - 5 - A like for like swap for Fryatt did not change the course of play and it was never going to with the same system. Kermorgant - 5 - Ineffective but then he was playing a midfield role when he came on. Pearson - 4 - A poor choice of starting lineup made us look too lethargic and predictable going forward. There was never an option to adjust the right side of midfield and as a result we had limited creative flair going forward. Rather than be pro-active in making changes, NP made like for like substitutions which were never going to alter the flow of the game. By the end, as dire as Derby were, and they were absolutely dire, they could, and perhaps should, have stolen the 3 points. A decent right sided midfielder is needed in January to allow greater options going forward.
ACF Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Why not use Gradel instead of buying another player? Use what we've got first, if he doesnt work, we need another player.
Fox92 Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Why not use Gradel instead of buying another player? Coz' hes rubbish. ______________ Weale - 7 Morrison - 7 - Needs a proper right winger with him but no, not Adams or Gradel. Hobbs - 7 Brown - 7 Berner - 7 Oakley - 5 - Not a right midfielder. King - 7.5 - Great again. Wellens - 6 - Not good. A few balls ok, but overall looked like he had no confidence and never really wanted the ball. Dyer - 7 - Ok Howard - 7 - Did what he could do, but Clough cleverly placed 2 men on him (Leacock and Savage) and then kept on giving away free kicks. Fryatt - 6 Subs- Waghorn - 6 Kermorgant - 5 - Stupid playing him in midfild.
dandannieldanok Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Why not use Gradel instead of buying another player?Use what we've got first, if he doesnt work, we need another player. It's disgraceful that Campbell's wormed his way back in yet Gradel isn't even getting on the bench. Pearson's bench was ridiculous yesterday, 1 keeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, and 4 strikers.

Thracian Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 if there any qualified coaches out there, please confirm this but my mate who is a Level 3 and therefore has some credence says re King he is a coach's dream - as it what he does off the ball and without it and consequently goes un-noticed by most that makes him such an asset. Nice that so many are now noticing.
marbelladave Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 I don't usually do this as I do not generally like to criticise individuals in a team game. However this time I am going to make an exception. Weale - Largely redundant as a shot stopper though from where I was looked to be well beaten by Savage's free kick. Distribution ok and seems to be improving. About a 6. Morrisson - Very game performance, untroubled defensively and got forward a lot but with no one in front of him most of his crosses were hit from too deep which gave the Derby defence plenty of time to deal with them. Great effort 7. Brown - Put under little pressure so looked quite accomplished, shame he can't play like this when he is under pressure. Had it easy 6. Hobbs - Decent all round performance but his error late on could have cost us the game. On another day a different ref could have seen it as a tackle from behind and given a penalty. Seems to be becoming somewhat error prone 6 Berner - Usual solid performance but seemed to get caught up in the lethargy of the second half when he was strangely uninvolved. About a 6. Oakley - Seemed unsure of his role, when he did get out to the right he was ineffective, better playing inside but often unable to find anyone in a forward position. Strangely hesitant 6. King - Typical performance, neat, tidy and very effective. Our only midfield player to offer a threat going forward. MOTM by a fair margin. Very good 8. Wellens - Seemed to be playing to instructions so was not his usual self. Surely with Oakley and King alongside him he does not need to play in such a cautious fashion. Another 6. Dyer - When getting forward was easily our best striking option, still plays far to deep to be really effective, shame. For when he does attack 7. Howard - When we try and play the passing game he is largely superfluous. Not mobile enough to show for the ball into feet and not quick enough to chase down any thing over the top or in the channels. Poor team selection 5. Fryatt - One of his anonymous games, no support and little service. Without an effective big man to make his chances he looks lost. Not his day 5. Subs Waghorn - Despite his pace he was easily crowded out by the massed Derby defence. n/a Kermorgant - Deployed virtually in midfield, what a waste. n/a Tactics. Badly misjudged 5.
DanTheFox07 Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Why didn`t gallagher play??? surely he could have played on the right!
Scow Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Bruno 6 (Defended well early on but didn't look nearly so solid second half when Derby finally stirred themselves with at least one cross from his station very nearly leading to a goal). That was because as a team we were sitting too deep at that point - that wasn't just Berner's fault. Furthermore, Derby had a few counter-attacks in the second half and the whole defence was exposed. My player ratings for the hell of it... Weale - 7 As others have said, nothing to do. Morrison - 7 Got forward well and (surprisingly) put some good balls into the box. Hobbs - 7 Almost let his solid performance get ruined with that late mistake - good recovery tackle though. Brown - 7 Commanding. Improved distribution too. Berner - 7 Typical Bruno: Accomplished. Oakley - 5 Poor and ineffective. King - 7 Played excellently in the first half - passed the ball well and was involved - less so in the second half. Wellens - 6 Neat passages of play but without the usual influence. Dyer - 6 Moments of promise, but failed to deliver for the large part. Fryatt - 7 Always a threat with his movement and touch. Howard - 6 Won most things in the air in the first half, but Leacock seemed to deal with him better in the second half. Subs: Waghorn - 6 Added some pace but didn't really have chance to do much apart from his good run on the right. Kermit - 6 Not really involved. *Edit - forgot Wellens - says a lot about his performance.
Corky Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Weale- 6 (Did well at what he had to do) Morrison- 6 (Got forward well and sent in a couple of decent crosses. Much better than Neilson) Hobbs- 7 (Apart from his late mistake, absolutely fine) Brown- 6.5 (Soild game, better passing as well) Berner- 6 (Decent shift, dealt well with Croft) Oakley- 5.5 (Not his best game, drifted inside too much) Wellens- 6 (Has played better) King- 7.5 (Best game for a while. Stronger in the tackle and looked composed on the ball) Dyer- 6 (Couple of mishit shots but showed willingness to run at the full-back) Howard- 6 Fryatt- 6 (Good opening but quiet overall)
Fox92 Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 It's disgraceful that Campbell's wormed his way back in yet Gradel isn't even getting on the bench. Pearson's bench was ridiculous yesterday, 1 keeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, and 4 strikers. Obviousley, its like work and college etc - you work harder, you get what you deserve. Therefore, DJ has probably worked very hard to get his place in the team and Gradel and co haven't. Not to say I am pleased about that though because I don't rate Gradel or Campbell. But then again, we don't see what goes on in training.

RowlattsFox Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Weale - 6- Nothing to do. Morrison -6- Solid enough, but I think we need a more natural full back when it comes to going forward, didn't seem to know what I do when he had the ball and turned back far too many times. Always willing though. Hobbs -7- Pretty dominant other than that mistake near the end. Brown -7- Did well, even distribution was improved. Berner -7- Solid. Oakley -5- Was inside far too much. Wellens -6- Thought he started very well but faded badly. King -7- MOM. Good game. Dyer -6- Always looked threatening but didn't see enough of the ball. Howard -6- Decent first half but poor second half, gives needless fouls away. Fryatt -6- Again looked most likely in first half, but didn't get enough good service. Waghorn -4- Barely touched the ball. Kermogant -5- Decent touches but too deep.

He wasn't playing upfront, Pearson decided to play him out of position

Not bad for a centre back! (Although I have got a bit of a pro-Morrison bias!)
