Link Cheltenham Town have placed manager Martin Allen on gardening leave over an allegation of racist behaviour.Allen is reported to have become involved in an argument with staff at a nightclub after being refused entry to the venue. Cheltenham have launched an investigation into the incident and have placed the former West Ham star on gardening leave. Jon Schofield has been placed in temporary charge of first team affairs. Nightclub bouncer Garry Saintil has accused Allen of racially abusing him after becoming embroiled in the argument. "He was totally out of order. When he realised he wasn't going to be allowed into the club he became insulting and aggressive," Saintil told the Gloucestershire Echo. "There were racial undertones in the kind of language he was using. "He wouldn't accept that he wasn't going to get in. He stayed outside the club for about an hour, prowling around and staring at me from across the street. "At one point he challenged me to come across to the car park opposite for a fight. He also threatened he was going to get someone to do me in. "I just told him not to waste his breath. There's no excuse for that kind of behaviour. He was totally obnoxious." Link Tutut
tewkesbury-fox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 May intrest some may not Cheltenham Town manager Martin Allen has been suspended after he was accused of racially abusing a nightclub bouncer. The 44-year-old reportedly launched a foul-mouthed tirade against doorstaff who refused to let him into Thirteen Degrees in St George's Road, Cheltenham. Mr Allen is alleged to have called bouncer Garry Saintil a "black ******" and has now been banned from the nightclub. A club statement said he had been placed on gardening leave while an investigation was carried out. John Schofield has been asked to take temporary charge of the club. Ironically, details of the incident have emerged during national Kick Racism Out of Football Fortnight. Thirteen Degrees' manager witnessed the racial abuse and says that Mr Allen also mocked his staff over how little they earned compared to him. The incident, during which Mr Allen was trying to jump a queue of 60 people, was partly captured on CCTV until Mr Allen retreated to the other side of the street and reportedly challenged Mr Saintil to a fight. The alleged outburst comes four months after Mr Allen was barred from the The Salisbury, in Montpellier Street, after allegedly dropping his trousers and parading in front of pub-goers. Mr Saintil, who is of African American descent, said: "He was totally out of order. When he realised he wasn't going to be allowed into the club he became insulting and aggressive. "There were racial undertones in the kind of language he was using and he referred to me as a 'black bastard'. He was totally obnoxious." Mr Allen, who took over at Cheltenham Town in September last year, has come under increasing pressure from supporters in recent weeks after a miserable run of results on the pitch. The Robins are currently 20th in League Two with only three wins from 13 games this season. Friday's defeat against Macclesfield Town was their fourth defeat in the past six games – a run that has seen them score five times but concede 14. Thirteen Degrees owner Matthew Bull called his behaviour "disgusting". Mr Bull, who witnessed the incident and was also one of the targets of Mr Allen's abuse, said he planned to warn other nightclub owners about his antics. "I was there," he said. "There was quite a large queue outside the venue and he started to try to force his way to the front. He was shouting his name. "I don't want someone in here who behaves like that. He was a disgrace. "Our staff do a fantastic job and are all highly experienced. "He was mocking their roles and making disparaging comments about how much they earn compared to him. "I went in to try to cool the situation and he was abusive towards me as well. We have had the players in here before and they have never given us any trouble. "There were a few un-PC comments made by him, including some racial abuse directed towards one of the bouncers. "I don't intend to take the matter to the police. I think a banning order will be sufficient. "Unfortunately, Mr Allen doesn't know how to behave himself. He's not welcome here anymore." Mr Allen hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when he was barred from The Salisbury. 'Mad Dog', as he has been nicknamed by football fans, allegedly danced on the stage with his shirt off before dropping his trousers and parading towards the dancefloor in front of pub-goers during a drunken night out. Both Mr Allen and Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker refused to comment, but the Cheltenham Town board of directors held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the incident and is expected to make a statement this morning.

Both Mr Allen and Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker refused to comment, but the Cheltenham Town board of directors held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the incident and is expected to make a statement this morning. Sounds much more that the issue here is insulting behaviour to staff than the racial abuse that the journo is choosing to focus on. That's an anger remark not a racist remark. Made in that situation it was like calling someone wearing glasses a "four-eyed freak" or someone from Ireland a "Shit-faced Paddy" I've no sympathy with Allen at all. He's such an ignoramus. But for the journo to focus on the "black bastard" remark is pathetic. It has absolutely nothing to do with genuine examples of racism. I've heard similarly disrespectful comments made by stacks of black people to whites but they never, ever get highlighted. "Are you looking at me white boy" is typical or "why are you ogling my girl, white boy". Both are direct threats that are arguablly much more calculated to insult people racially than anything Allen is said to have uttered. Our society simply chooses to ignore these and pretend they don't happen. The nightclub owner - as the witness - doesn't seem to be focusing on the so-called racial aspect at all but on Allen's all-round yobbish behaviour and the general insults to his staff as part of that. And, as such, if true, Allen will deserve whatever he gets including the loss of his job. Because, again, if true, it hardly reflects the kind of conduct one would expect of any senior executive.
Guest Bilo Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I imagine his sacking could be just around the corner then, not just for the racism but because no player will take him seriously if he tries to instill discipline in the squad. As already said, a man of his age in a responsible position should know better.
Jiggers the Fox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 isnt he a bit old to be going clubbing!?
BoneDog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 lol "He wouldn't accept that he wasn't going to get in. He stayed outside the club for about an hour, prowling around and staring at me from across the street. At one point he challenged me to come across to the car park opposite for a fight." The man is a bit of a loon really. In his position you should be keepin your head down and if he wants to brawl he should be doing it for money in private if he wants to stay in a job! I do think he's funny but I don't condone his behaviour. Doorman would of dropped him
BoneDog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 isnt he a bit old to be going clubbing!? He's a playa loves chasing the ladies still
lou Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 isnt he a bit old to be going clubbing!? Exactly what my first response was He does come across as a sad old man who thinks hes one of the lads to be honest. Doorman should have floored him
Koke Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 isnt he a bit old to be going clubbing!? He's only 44 We've all had the odd handbags and brawls in town centre at some point in our lives. Shit happens. Allen is no different than the rest of us.
MPH Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 hindsight is a wonderful thing. MM did say at the time MA was sacked for ' non footballing reasons' whatever they were i wonder how many people will be emailing MM and apologising for their berating of him.

Allen is no different than the rest of us. Handbags and brawls is one thing... racial abuse is something entirely different and just shows him for what he is. Do think a man in his mid forties (he looks a bloody lot older ) would know better and it was obviously going to get out. No sympathy whatsoever.

All it says is *There were racial undertones in the kind of language he was using*. That could mean anything. He was a bit stupid and silly due to the alcohol of course, but I wouldn't read too much into it.

I still think its a bit sad at his age acting like a 15 year old. No doubt the truth will out, Im sure the club will investigate fully. He could always get a job writing for the Daily Mail
Dr The Singh Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I would have thought MA would be the type to go to clubs and grope the girls rather then fight with bouncers!!!
Samilktray Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Martin Allen has always struck me as the kind of bloke who would be a great laugh down the pub.
BoneDog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 The thing I laugh at is that he hung around prowling for an hour! 5 or 10 minutes mouthing off maybe, but an hour
BoneDog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I would have thought MA would be the type to go to clubs and grope the girls rather then fight with bouncers!!! That's more than likely why he got vexed. Cos he'd had his mind set on gash all day and when he got there bouncer said 'you're not comin in'!

Your probaby right El Empty, there probably was some gash in the queue, who he either had his eye on or was chatting her up................you would have thought though that he could easily afford to go to a lap dancing\strip club?????
