davieG Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 The future of a Norfolk football club looks precarious after it was wound up by a High Court judge with more than £65,000 of unpaid taxes. King's Lynn FC's chairman Ken Bobbins told the court it had already paid £40,000 of the tax bill. But the court granted a request by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to make a compulsory order winding up the club, saying it is "woefully insolvent". It means the club's affairs will be handed over to an Official Receiver. This will ensure that debts are paid off by selling any assets available and then bringing business to a close. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/8378642.stm
Edmund Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Would be a good time to get that player on the cheap if we're still interested. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.ph...p;hl=kings+lynn
Guest Bilo Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Rather sad that a club can go bust for the sake of three days wages for a Premiership player. I really do think that bigger clubs should step in to save smaller ones, even Manchester United were a non-league club once. £65,000 would be nothing if King's Lynn's neighbours chipped in to save the club yet they look to go have gone the way of Scarborough in 2007 and Aldershot in 1992. Let's hope they can bounce back.
purpleronnie Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 They seem to get decent crowds for that level too.
Katy Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Ahh that's a shame, such a lovely ground as well.
Corky Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Really sad news, great little club. As Katy says, good ground facilities (for that level).
Sly Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 If I was a Premiership footballer, I'd be tempted to buy a lower league club, maybe Blue Square North/South, it'd keep you entertained for a bit after you'd retired.
CosbehFox Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 They seem to get decent crowds for that level too. They do and would be up at Conference level if it was done on that criteria. Harshly treated last season but they were tempted into signing the likes of Joachim on mega wages.
Leicesterboi Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 One of Joachim's old clubs. Wonder if he could pull a few strings?
General Smuts Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 Ahh that's a shame, such a lovely ground as well. Now we squeeze One of the better non league grounds i've been to. NOW WE SQUEEZE!
Katy Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 One of the better non league grounds i've been to.NOW WE SQUEEZE! Yeah, it was a good day.
Head Honcho Posted 27 November 2009 Posted 27 November 2009 What a ridiculous amount of money to go under for!
Radovan's Caravan Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 What a ridiculous amount of money to go under for! HMRC issued the winding up petiition but they are certainly not KL's only creditor and the club's total debt is probably in the mid to late hundreds of thousands. The phrase 'woefully insolvent' suggests that KL trades on a continuous and increasing deficit.
Father Ted Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 Hopefully Liverpool will be wound up soon with the debts that they are in and the loss of money from being knocked out of the CL. Come on, this just highlights how bigger clubs can get away with anything.

CosbehFox Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 Come on, this just highlights how bigger clubs can get away with anything. Big clubs pay their taxes though. Whereas as other sources are more forgiving, the Taxman is not.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 Why would you want that to happen? Your big four clubs are technically insolvent. They collectively owe almost £2 billion, their collective annual turnover is barely a third of that and their combined annual profits are a mere 5% of their debts. Because these clubs are central to Murdoch's plans for global sports media domination they are currently able to get away with financial malfeasance. But this state of affairs cannot last forever. The big four are not competing on an equal financiall footing either in the EPL or in the Champions League (except Real & Barca which are government subsidised) as they are sitting on debt mountains that would send the majority of their opponents into administration/receivership. Father Ted's sentiments about Liverpool might be seen as vindicative by some (but not half as vindictive as mine - I earnestly pray for the bloody lot of them to go down) but what else would you wish on cheats? And let's not be under illusions here: cheating is exactly what these footballing mafiosi are doing when winning titles and sitting on a $ billion of debt. The glory ****** who follow this crud are the first to hypocritcally lecture you on tradition, history and character. Well let them have a taste of the wind and the rain on the terraces of 'Barnstoneworth' and so how long they can take it for. After all, that is the price that you and others have had to pay for chasing the dream. Hopefully then you will have a return to the sixties and seventies when there was fair and open competition at the top and teams like Burnley, Ipswich, Derby and Nottingham Forest could win the title.

leicesterfox86 Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 What a ridiculous amount of money to go under for! Tell me about it. Pretty much every footballer in the Premier League could save this club and not even notice.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 Sad for Carl Heggs as well. Seems to have had a long career in non-league football (including Leicester United and Hinckley) and it'd be a shame for it to end this way.
