Webbo Posted 3 December 2009 Posted 3 December 2009 I don't necessarily want to lose him but I don't think it would be a disaster if he goes. It would mean playing Kermo up front and Gallagher in the hole behind the front 2. Which imo is their correct positions.
TrickyTrev Posted 3 December 2009 Posted 3 December 2009 That is 'mongball' not 'football' 'fusbal' or 'calcio'. In 'football' you run towards goal into space without the ball. When it comes to you, you first tme it to a team mate less than 10 metres away and he first times it either back to you or to someone else. That's how you cut through a massed defence and create chances. But you have to be technically good to play this way and you have to practice constantly to hone and maintain this skill. Few British players do this. Do Brasil and Spain play football or mongball? 'Cos both of them play a striker with great physical attributes so that they can attack at more than one pace.
Finnegan Posted 3 December 2009 Posted 3 December 2009 Do Brasil and Spain play football or mongball? Yeah but they have glamorous names like Raul, Ronaldinho, Juan Manuel Mata, Robinho and, er... Fred...? Obviously if your name's Howard, Hobbs, Brown or Oakley you can only play mongball.
ousefox Posted 3 December 2009 Posted 3 December 2009 Waghorn is a big player for us, especially when Fryatt is not performing. Really hope we can keep him until the end of the season.

Fred...?Obviously if your name's Howard, Hobbs, Brown or Oakley you can only play mongball. I don't rate Robinho. But, you may be surprise to learn, I rate Sean Wright-Phillips very highly indeed. He gambols and skips about like a dik dik (have you ever noticed how the ball looks twice as big when he's in possession?) - a sort of diminuitive Stanley Matthews. And he has a very unusual strike action - I've never seen anyone address the ball the way he does. He makes the right sided, right to left finish look a doddle. Of course, no fcukwit Brit coach would EVER notice that. PS You left out out Pato 'The Duck' from your list. PPS You will find the first time passing game played in lower league football throughout most of Europe. PPPS Would someone please tell Finners that there are worse things in life than living in the appendage of a sovereign state.

Why are they in the lower leagues if it's so successful??
fatmando Posted 4 December 2009 Posted 4 December 2009 Give Yann a decent chance up top!!!..... but keep Waghorn if we can I say.
l444ry Posted 4 December 2009 Posted 4 December 2009 Strikes me that any pass over five yards gets classed as "longball" and, now, "mongball" by some of our resident armchair experts. This is an insult to one's intelligence if compared to Micky Adams, Dave Bassett, Howard Wilkinson etc. Perhaps City should adopt "passing" football for the sake of "passing" - like Arsenal perhaps. The same Arsenal who have won fook all for 5 odd years. Or maybe we should re-employ David Pleat, or headhunt Gary McAllister or Glenda Hoddle. All these "passing" football exponents would surely be doing better than "mongball" Pearson given their magnificent records.
craigadams22 Posted 5 December 2009 Posted 5 December 2009 I certainly don't want to see Waghorn leave Leicester City because he is one of our plus's at the moment, I rate him highly. Let's hope he & some other's get on the score sheet today for Leicester City FC - I hate Forest by the way
Guest Mee-9 Posted 5 December 2009 Posted 5 December 2009 Steve Bruce has revealed he is happy to leave Martyn Waghorn with Leicester City. The Sunderland boss said he was pleased with the progress the 19-year-old was making with Nigel Pearson's promotion-chasing side and feels the experience of playing regularly in the Championship was more beneficial for the striker than playing reserve team football at the Stadium of Light. However, he warned he would not hesitate to invoke the 24-hour call-back clause in his loan deal if his first-choice strike force of Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones picked up injuries. Bruce has been monitoring Waghorn's progress and has been impressed with his performances after breaking into the City starting line-up. The Black Cats boss is hopeful that Waghorn can emulate Jordan Henderson, who returned from gaining vital experience at Coventry City last season and has now broken into the Sunderland first team Pearson is hopeful that he can persuade Bruce to allow Waghorn to stay at the Walkers Stadium beyond the end of his current loan agreement, which expires in January. This is the first indication that Bruce may be willing to do so. It was feared Bruce would take Waghorn back next month and put him into his first-team squad if he could off-load surplus strikers David Healy and Daryl Murphy. However, the Sunderland boss may now agree to a loan extension. "I can recall him at any time because he's under this youth loan, so he's under a certain age and I can bring him back," said Bruce. "I've got no intention of doing that just yet. Obviously, if something happened to Jones or Bent then I would do, but it's vital for his education that he stays there and plays in the Championship. "I hope he can come back and do something like Jordan has done. "The kid is doing very, very well, so we'll keep monitoring him. We're very pleased with what he's doing." Waghorn has scored four times in five starts and 12 substitute appearances since arriving at City in the summer and has formed a useful partnership with Matty Fryatt in the City attack, keeping the likes of Steve Howard on the sidelines. He is likely to maintain his place at Nottingham Forest today Source http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/spor...il/article.html Something good came out on today then.
Collymore Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 He's showing more passion than anyone at the moment and he's not even our player.
Karljohn Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 I honestly believe if he does stay on until May then he will be top scorer for us. The lad is hardworking, prepared to do the ugly stuff at times but can also produce flashes of brilliance. I think he will have a hero's farewell just like Kevin Campbell did when he left us 20 years back to return to Arsenal.
UrbanFox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 There trying to offload David Healy? worth a punt maybe?
Legend_in_blue Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 There trying to offload David Healy? worth a punt maybe? Quite possibly. But as I've said before, you can have as many strikers as all the tea in China, fact of the matter is we need a midfield to add more to us as an attacking unit. The midfield isn't balanced, Wellens hasn't had quite the impact hoped, and we're quickly becoming slow paced and far too predictable going forward. And yet the RB and ST positions get singled out everytime. No, sort out the midfield, maintain some sort of balance, and then we can start attacking with more purpose and offer some sort of co-ordinated defence from the front when teams attack us with pace down the wings.

Guest Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Sorry LiB but I have to disagree re. Wellens. Yes he's had a couple of poor games but on the whole he's been well worth the chance we took and the money we spent on him

Yes he's had a couple of poor games but on the whole he's been well worth the chance we took and the money we spent on him He's had a couple of poor games because he's playing far too deep. He was supposed to be the playmaker and was so earlier on this season, but with the way things have gone of late, it's no surprise that his influence in games has dwindled somewhat. Nobody appears to know what they're doing in midfield, there's no coordination in an attacking sense, and we don't dominate the midfield as much as we did earlier on this season. I think Wellens is a good player, don't get me wrong, but he's not being used as well as he could be.

bald reynard Posted 11 December 2009 Author Posted 11 December 2009 Now I know I'll get 'shot down' by most for saying this; but I think IF Waghorn goes back to Sunderland in January, it might well be a good thing for City. For a start off, Pearson will have to play a logical team formation - none of this 'strikers in midfield' business - Kermorgant will play where he should be, in attack (in Waggie's place), with Fryatt - and we could then have some width, with a / 2 wingers (not Gallagher). I think Kermorgant would be much better 'foil' for Fryatt than Waghorn - and get the best out of him (lacking of late). Now I'll make a prediction. We WILL perform better tomorrow (Sheff Wed) WITHOUT Waghorn in the side !! When I originally asked if Waggie going back to Sunderland would be a good thing (I really meant it would NOT be a BAD thing !), I was thinking it might force Pearson to pick 'round pegs in round holes' (unlike the system he's been using for most of the season - 'square pegs in wiggly-shaped chasms') - ie Kermie up front with Matty Fryupp. Well that scenario is / could be (knowing NP, it won't !) up and running tomorrow - and my prediction is (and assuming he starts with both players up front - NOT one of them in midfield):- City goals (at least 2) A far more attractive side to watch A win ! You heard it here first !!
