A great chance to see City's team of the future comes on Tuesday night when the undefeated academy side take on Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON at the Walkers Stadium.

A big support is expected for the City boys who have had a tremendous first half of their campaign and, having dumped Coventry City out in the last round at the Ricoh Arena, now take on a Premiership club's own prospects.

Academy Manager Jon Rudkin said: "Liverpool have been in the final for the last three seasons, and have won two of them, so we know they will be difficult opposition but it will be a great opportunity for the boys and another good experience after the previous round when they won at Coventry.

"It is now a chance to play at the Walkers Stadium in front of a good crowd and we are all looking forward to it.

"We played them very early in the season up at their ground and although we won that one 3-0, this will be a different type of game and a different occasion. The stature of Liverpool and the resorces they have will make it a tough challenge but difficult games are all part of it."

It will be a chance to see players of great promise, including defender Tom Parkes and striker Elliott Chamberlain. Rudkin added: "Tom Parkes trained with the senior squad in the last few weeks and congratulations to him for gaining a place on the bench for the FA Cup Third Round tie here against Swansea.

"That is the main target for all of the boys, to progress to first team reckoning. Andy King is a prime example and Luke O'Neill has also seen first team action in the Championship. Elliott Chamberlain has now signed professional terms which means he is on the next rung of the ladder as well."

@Fez and davieG: Any chance we're going to see an Academy goalkeeper moving up the ranks in the near future? I know it's already a couple of decades since the likes of Banks and Shilton, but it would be nice to hear about some progress in that department, as well. From what I gather, there's always lots of praise for the ten men in front of them, but hardly any for the keeper - so how exactly are guys like Cisak, Pentney and Ambrusics doing so far?

How many people actually go to reserve matches & academy matches? Supporters, that is.. Just curious

Reserve matches, none as they are generally behind close doors, academy I'm guessing from when I've been an average of 250 but can be as low as 50. I think Fez said there was 500 or so at one recently. you can't get many more than that down Belvoir Drive as you just stand on 1 end and half of one side of the pitch.

Cant see the Liverpool squad getting down here to be honest the way things are looking and with more forecast over the weekend :(

They wont risk it if its at all dodgy on the roads

I go down to watch the academy when I can as its very near to my house, first team games and work committing. Havent been down as often this season but previous seasons went to a lot of games.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Liverpool TV have highlights advertised for 10pm tonight. Maybe a stream could pop up somewhere?

I e-mailed LFC and they said you need a e-Season Ticket - Guessing it there version of LCFC World, and there would be a stream on there. So possible, but doubt it (As its not a high interest match doubt anyone would bother to stream it on a free site :dunno:)

I think he means the Liverpool channel on SKY. Just had a look and it's scheduled for 10:00PM

On for 90 minutes too.

Do ESPN/Setanta subscribers still get it for free as part of the package?

Looks like it yeah, it's working atm for me.

Smug bastard :D

Hopefully there's a constant Liverpool TV channel stream out there. I refuse to pay for ESPN.

You'd rather steal a feed from a pay channel than accept a free ticket from the club?

No I knew he meant on the Liverpool channel on SKY about the highlights, but when I e-mailed Liverpool to ask if it would be show on the Liverpool channel on SKY, I got a reply saying it would be streamed live through a e-Season Ticket (Presumably their equivalent of LCFC World) but there would be highlights at 10pm on the Sky Channel.

I did post it earlier in this thread somewhere but this is the reply I got when I e-mailed them;

Dear Matt,

Thank-you for your email.

The Academy game will be shown Live on the web only through the e-Season ticket. The game will be available in full on LFCTV at 10.00pm that night.

I'm not a season ticket holder.

I'm not a season ticket holder.

I'm sure you know one who could have aquired a ticket for you but I suppose watching LFC's highlights package will be much more informative.

I don't know what's with the attitude but obviously as a non sth I didn't consider going. People I know with STH's will either be using theirs and if their not going it's pointless me using theirs as they would've been the people I'd be going with and I don't really fancy sitting on my tod. Is that okay with you Sir?

I've got spare one.

Thanks :) I might actually take you up on the offer, just going to see if anyone else is going.
