eleven points Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 I think any nervousness would be more down to being 2-0 down whilst dominating the game more than playing in front of a thousand or so people. Also think Chamberlein's confidence had been shot by the time he had that one on one, and that he would of slotted it away if we hadn't gone 4-0 down at half time in the biggest game of his life so far.

I wasn't at the game so can't comment on the performance but that sounds more plausible.
l444ry Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 First time I've ever glimpsed the Youth Team but pleasantly surprised at their direct approach. If they hadn't been so naive defensively and prone to schoolboy ball watching at the back things might have been different. Their direct play must make some of the "purists" on here wince. Or maybe turn a blind eye because they are damned good at it!! One could have been forgiven if they thought it was Stoke City incarnate wearing the blue shirts.

For the 3rd time I didnt say we lost purely because of nerves but maybe it contributed to us going 2-0 down in the 1st place! Certain players looked very uncomfortable from the outset IMO Anyway Im not saying anymore were just going round in circles
StanSP Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 People have a right to boo. Most people would have paid good, hard-earned money to see this...oh wait.

Anyway if we do carry on with this then yeah it will go round in circles.

Guest Basildon Fox Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 shame about the result tho, but it was always going to be a big game for them... Nobody likes a smart arse!!
Katy Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 I was absolutely disgusted with some of the 'crowd' last night. Booing, barracking, and shouts of 'get him off' these are kids learning their trade you idiots! Shouting 'you're shit' at them is not going to help get the best out of them is it. Ok, the result was very disappointing but is there really any need? As someone who watches them on a fairly regular basis I feel quite protective towards them and I really wanted them to put on a show for the people who don't get to watch them. They weren't watching the first team, they were watching a bunch of kids who are aged between 16 and 18 - some people need to be able to tell the difference. And as for those effing kids!!!!

Had some right loud mouth behind me who kept shouting at the ref (rightly so granted!) feckin deafened me!

jonthefox Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 i agree its wrong to shout at young lads, but that said, i thought they were poor last night..
lou Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 i agree its wrong to shout at young lads, but that said, i thought they were poor last night.. eh? They really werent poor (yes I know that sounds mental given the scoreline)
Katy Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 eh? They really werent poor (yes I know that sounds mental given the scoreline) They played really well to start with I thought, then never properly recovered from conceding against the run of play. It's a learning curve for them definitely, I hope they come back and give someone a proper thrashing in anger!
Corky Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 I can't believe people actually booed the youth team

Ford Super Sunday Posted 10 February 2010 Posted 10 February 2010 I just wanted to quickly bump this Liverpool academy lost 1-0 to Watford Academy in the 5th Round of the FA Youth Cup They've also only won one of their five games they've played since they beat us, making the defeat against them even more of an anomoly!!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 February 2010 Posted 10 February 2010 Our Academy beat Birmingham 2-1 at home on Saturday, haven't seen it mentioned on here but not been on much recently. Thanks to Bert for that info. The OS seems to have dropped their interest in the kids completely now.

Thanks to Bert for that info. The OS seems to have dropped their interest in the kids completely now. Which is very frustrating! They are doing really well this season and have shown continuous improvement over the past few years. Not sure what exactly it says though - are our kids really THAT good or is it that the teams they're playing don't have a good academy/quality isnt that good? I haven't had a chance to see them and only going by the reports but it sounds like have some strength all round the team - its just a matter of time to see who can make the step up to the next level.
