The hockey match between the Czechs and the Slovaks was absolutely scintillating! What a great advert for the sport. It's unfortunate that only two of them and Russia will go through as they looked excellent tonight. Especially veteran Jagr was a joy to behold.

Also, did anyone see the first Swedish goal against Germany? I'm no expert on ice hockey rules, but how was that not a penalty on the goalie?

I miss Jagr! I'm so happy he's back.

The Swedish goal could have also been ruled out for a goalie interference penalty, but I assume the ref didn't think he saw contact made.

USA 6-1 Norway... USA were sluggish at times, but at least they found a few goals towards the end in case goal difference matters for the elimination round seedings. Canada vs. Switzerland later; I'm hoping for a repeat of 2006. Hopp Schwiiz!

Slalom Skiing looks painful.

Getting whipped by them poles. No thanks.

Canadian bird who's just done her skeleton run ain't half bad.

I'd love to have a go at that, wouldn't mind having go at the skeleton either.

Curling's been a nightmare for both the USA's men's and women's teams :( Worse yet, their game against the Russian women's team  goes on while I'm at work tomorrow... it'd probably be really sad if I DVRed that.

Canada definitely has the upper hand against the Swiss, but the underdogs have just scored in the 2nd to cut the deficit to 2-1... let's go!

EDIT: SWISS SCORE WITH 0:10 LEFT IN THE 2ND! HOPP SCHWIIZ!!!!

They're on now against the GBR team, Oh my.

The blonde's a fittie.

Just watched the Skeleton. Just watched the video of when the guy died on the luge too. Nasty.

Australia just won our 4th ever gold exciting times.

Torah Bright was last in the fine after falling on her first run in the half pipe then jumped to the lead after the second run and no one got close.

And we're through to the 1/8-finals in Men's Ice Hockey. I was already expecting a heavy thumping by les Canadians, but this 3-2 loss after the shootout makes me proud. With all those NHL stars on board, they managed to score only two regular goals. Hiller, from what I've read, had the game of his lifetime. 44 parried shots in 65 minutes. Excellent. Although our second goal was a really lucky one, it's good to know we took a point off the home team and I'm sure my Canadian fellows will be fuming lol.

Now I hope we get a decent result against Norway. :P

He was unbelievable. Especially a double save he made in the third, catching a fierce shot with his off-hand (he lost his stick) on the rebound!

In luge you go down the run on your back, feet first. Skeleton is on your front, head first.

it's all about Liechtenstein really...

i get the feeling that all these freestyle events have been brought in mainly because the americans tend to dominate them, it's their way of catching up with norway

Indeed, but when everyone tunes in to most of those events, count me out.

Halfpipe snowboarding is not a sport; snowboard cross is.

[edit to add that you're going down on the curling rink tomorrow! lol]

this makes interesting reading....

also noticed today that USA has 224 competitors, germany 160-odd and norway only 107 (uk 52)

I read in the paper on the way to Bristol that the BBC have sent out more presenters (mid 70's) than we have athletes at a cost of about £250,000. lol
